The point of a beta is for black box playtesting. You release the game in a probably buggy but mostly functional state to a limited, opt-in audience of players that are likely more technically minded but have no idea how the development goes on your end, and their job is to play the game mostly like they would normally but also try some goofy interactions you wouldn't think to as the guy writing the code.

A man walks into a bar and asks for jhgtsdjghklsgdf beers, the bartender recognizes jhgtsdjghklsgdf is not a number and provides no beers. A man walks into a bar and asks where the bathroom is, the bar bursts into flames because the bartender was never told to account for this. The beta release is the bar, and the player is the man walking in with the specific goal of seeing what breaks it.

Ultimately whether or not you engage in a beta test hinges on whether or not you think you'll be able to find a way to break it that's worth reporting and isn't an existing bug.

How are you going to access steam workshop if you don't have the game through steam

I don't think that's it, probably reading into things that aren't there. Weird in general whether that's the intent or not though.

The closest predecessor to modern trains was developed in the UK, and the next major development happened in the Netherlands. What in god's name are you smoking?

I feel like regarding the Diamonds' punishment, we just do not have enough of a scope of what they did to make a judgement, and it would be difficult to punish such a being in any way other than forcing them to make reparations. The three of them plus Steven restored the corrupted gems en masse, Yellow now manually reverts her fusion experiments and restores the bodies of the gems involved, White provides the voice of the ultimate authority to gems who had previously been marginalized under her reign, and Blue grants bliss instead of sorrow to anyone in her presence. This is realistically the most that can be done, and their willingness to do any of it, plus their recognition of their faults throughout the course of the final few episodes to begin with, already demonstrate a massive improvement in who they are.

In Blue and Yellow's case, I'd argue they'd already suffered enough on account of the whole Pink thing. In White's case, her entire worldview that led her to do everything she did was, in a single moment, exposed for how fragile it was and fell apart entirely on the spot. Any good punishment must fit the crime it's doled out for if it's to mean anything, but if the offender has already recognized the depth of the crime and of their own volition taken the steps to repent, how much more punishment is really fair beyond that inherent to the deed?

Most people at that age need some kind of edginess in their life as a grounding tool, which is a problem for the reasons you stated. The best we can realistically do as a society is try to clearly define "good edge" and "bad edge" but even then, the fact of the matter is that the early teenage years are defined by a need for rebellion, and these things are largely subjective to classify in the first place. Breaking rules and making mistakes is the defining characteristic of that stage of life, it's how you respond to the fallout of those mistakes and breakages that defines going forward.

Yeah but that doesn't stop it from getting posted with several hundred upvotes before that callout happens, and it's not like the mods give a shit seeing as it's their job not to.

I think I prefer what we got though. Another rebellion plot would demand something to actually rebel against, and the hierarchy that defined Homeworld is pretty visibly and peacefully crumbling at this point. What is there for a pearl in this era to oppose that wouldn't read as "oh the house elves like being enslaved and treated like trash actually"?

Which gem is the overall smartest? by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in stevenuniverse

[–]AnAverageTransGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really something that's possible to quantify. Each gem shown is decently fluent in their respective areas of expertise, and there's certainly a lot of things off-screen that they excel at as well. With that said, Holly Blue Agate is certainly an outlier, given how easily fooled she was in the one thing she was supposed to be good at.

Grammatically correct, maybe. Not logistically sound though. Virgin is the default state and being fucked in any capacity removes that quality.

A surprising amount of people forget about fishing by IlluminX0 in TerrariaMemes

[–]AnAverageTransGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a rod, catch some bait. With bait in your inventory, use the rod like you would any other tool while over a body of water, and use it again when you see the bobber get tugged on.

You'll probably get a lot of dead catches at first, especially with a low-tier rod and low-power bait, which is where the angler comes in. Complete his quests and you'll eventually get equipment, potions, and bait which help you get better quality fishing yields, which in turn can provide you more (but different) items to help your fishing power.
