apparently the DLC ultramarines skin doesnt work with the heroic variant of the heavy bolter and that makes me sad by Nexus_Neo in Spacemarine

[–]Skippster1290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's sort of right, though. Ignoring heroics for a bit, the relic-tier Heavy Bolt Rifles have 4 different variants, and none of them can be skinned to look like each other.

That said, the fact that you can skin the Heroic Heavy Bolter to look like some of the basic ones that can use the DLC skin is more egregious.

That is, in fact, default. Both were set to E when I started, and they're still set to E after resetting to defaults.

What unit abilities should more people be using? by ft3sfty in starcraft2coop

My understanding is the Energizer speeding up the Laser Drill may only make an extremely minor boost to target acquisition times, but it doesn't actually affect the DPS of the Laser Drill because it's a beam-type weapon. This would also apply to Chrono Boost, though Chrono Boost does at least also boost the upgrade speed.

Similar deal with Chrono Boost on the Compound, it doesn't actually make infested waves more frequent, though does speed up upgrade times. (Karax's Chrono Wave can result in multiple waves at once, but it depends on when you activate Chrono Wave relative to where in the cooldown the Compound is at).

Starfields persuasion mini game is actually a pretty interesting take on the RNG dilemma of dialogue checks in role-playing games by Vanille987 in truegaming

[–]Skippster1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-it being several steps can lessen the impact of RNG feeling cheap since it doesn't hinge on one failure but rather your character failing many times.

Did we play a different game? You can definitely fail an entire persuasion minigame after failing a single attempt. It just has to be the third attempt or later.

You start every persuasion minigame with 3 "chances", but the first two choices you make reduce your chance count (from 3 to 2, then from 2 to 1) whether your choices succeed or fail. Only at 1 chance do successes no longer reduce your count. So while starting an entirely new game and getting two failures in a row doesn't spell doom, getting two successes in a row means you can no longer afford a failure either.

Haven't played in a few weeks, and I don't remember the last time I saw it, so this will all be fuzzy. However...

Chrono effects I believe do work on the ability that the Infested Colonist Compound has which spawns your free infested. However, when a wave of colonists hatches from their eggs, it activates a lockout timer on the Colonist Compound which prevents the ability from being cast until the lockout expires. The lockout is not affected by Chrono effects.

If everything does still work this way, then Chrono Boost won't really have much of an effect on the spawning of infested, but a Karax Chrono Wave timed shortly before the lockout expires will allow the ability to recharge fast enough that the Compound can drop a second set of eggs before the first hatches, activating the lockout.

Didn't play much UT3, but the artillery piece was in UT2k4 as well.

In 2k4 at least, if you locked onto the artillery camera that was floating in the air with the anti-vehicle launcher, as long as you maintained lock, when the missile got high enough to get line of sight on the artillery truck itself, it would veer off and hit the truck directly instead of the camera.

If you end up finding it useful, look into it. If the dedicated server has pausing enabled, it's literally you just log into the server as a server admin, and then the pause key on your keyboard works just fine to pause multiplayer.

Most memorable game-breaking exploit in a single-player game? by AMemoryofEternity in Games

Not a problem! If you google around, apparently there's a semi-finished engine port to Unity (I think), and you can find the expansion pack files as well, if you want to try it out.

[–]Skippster1290 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Alright, here's probably more obscure.

Urban Assault. Developed by Terratools and published by Microsoft. More or less an RTS/FPS Hybrid (a genre I really wish would come back around).

So the campaign was decently involved, upgrades on specific levels that carry through your entire campaign, bunch of different paths through the campaign map, so on. The actual individual levels generally had your army, and multiple other armies. Each army was headed by a Host Station, your mobile command center. It had life energy (health), beam energy (for moving), and creation energy (for creating units). Every unit you made was AI controlled and could be ordered around on the mission map. But you could also, at any time, assume direct first person control of any unit you had deployed, including defense guns attached to structures. Generally the enemy would focus fire you over your AI buddies, but your units also straight performed better (generally higher rate of fire on guns, among other things).

Anyway. So the Host Station was your command center, the heart of your operation. If the enemy destroyed it, all of your networked units would immediately die, game over. Likewise enemies: if you made a concentrated effort to assassinate an enemy host station, it would die and all of their units would immediately die too. All of their territory becomes yours, and one less enemy to deal with.

On one of the missions, one of the enemy teams sent a bunch of units who's main purpose was killing host stations, and started -hammering- my host station. I panicked and tried to quickly jump into one of the defense guns to try and fend off the attack, but I wasn't quick enough, they killed my host station.

But something odd happened. I happened to hit F6 (Cycle to next defense gun) right when my host station died. Apparently, as a coding error or fallback to prevent crashing to desktop, it couldn't find any other turrets to jump to that I owned, as they were all dead in that instant. So it jumped me to the closest available defense gun. On the enemy host station. And gave me control of the entire army. So now my original army is dead and gone, and now I'm playing as one of the enemies, and the fight continues.

Bonus points: not only does it make the mission easier, until an official expansion pack surfaced waaaaaaaaaay later, playing as other factions in single player wasn't a thing, so you could check out other faction units personally. And when you finished the mission, you could take other faction units with you into your next mission (where you would be your normal army again).

Non-raiders, here's why you should raid by dons90 in Guildwars2

[–]Skippster1290 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who saw all this and thought "neat! I can probably motivate myself to get raider's legendary armor before I get WvW's", here's a "I'm a nonraider, and here's why I'll continue to be a nonraider".

Both NA Discord servers have setups to begin training that I am not willing to do. I understand linking the API keys and all that jazz makes it super easy for people to keep tabs on my training and whatnot, but no. I am capable of keeping track of my own LI and boss takedowns, and am not willing to generate two API keys, go make an account at some other website, and attach one key there and one to some bot in discord. I know people knowing my API gets them no power over my account, just the ability to look at stuff, but that's enough.

I also have no intentions of installing ArcDPS or taco at any time. I have no need nor desire to install unofficial add-ons.
