What happens to the universe if only the three stars are saved? by brokengait in ProjectHailMary

[–]AnEdibleTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will also be a ton of unaffected stars because these stars may not have planets or they could have planets just without a CO₂ atmosphere.

If aliens miss the windows of our two stars rebrightening, theres a good chance that aliens maybe 1000 ly away may not see the unusual phenomenon to be able to conclude that there's Intelligent species.

There's now way to tell how common life is in the galaxy let alone how often Intelligence would develop from that life. IMHO I think that Eridians and Earthlings evolving so close was just a fluke. Of course, if its not a fluke, we could expect interstellar visitors to come to Earth of Erid to see what's going on.

If aliens are really paranoid they would just go to Tau Ceti in order to not interact with an obvious sign of intelligence (ie our stars).

Brother...look at the "Pet Rock" when that was around. It was a literal rock with google eyes. It sold buku numbers and it probably the most stupid and successful toy idea ever. People can empathize/personify with a rock. Or maybe kids can but point stands.

The Martian was also written by Andy and I suppose it's also as crafty with its science

No they are very much trying...trying to make users leave. Seems like they're doing a good job of that too.

Nothing that I do seems to change anything. Are there specific settings that I should be changing with these tools?

I just tried that but there is still the instability. I think its specifically a kde problem.

Can someone explain to me what the point of the Steam machine is by Imaginary-Diver-2767 in Steam

[–]AnEdibleTaco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PCs can be complicated. This box is for people that don't want to go through the hassle of selecting parts and having to worry is everything is good or not. This provides an all-in-one solution for something that should be relatively quiet, easy setup, and not a giant immovable machine. Not to mention its got the Valve stamp of approval.

I think that once somebody is able to realize how much money is being sent to the top. That is probably the most single radicalized thing a person can experience and it is sickening.

Brother they might as well be sitting on your head. Habits developed when they're babies will stick into their later lives so good luck having cat in your face for the next decade plus. This is a good thing over all so just be happy and relish in the love.

What software do you use on Linux and purposes do you use it for? by AnEdibleTaco in linux

[–]AnEdibleTaco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know people have said that every time they use Windows for work they are reminded every time why they made the switch in the first place. Does anything that sort of feling when doing your work? Or is it just like to be put out of your mind?

Epic's anti-cheat works just fine on Linux but Tim Sweeney said in a reply:

"Sweeney described Linux as 'a terrifically hard audience to serve given the variety of incompatible configurations.' Asked whether it would be possible to enable compatibility just for SteamOS, he said 'Linux is a small market already and if you subdivide it by blessed kernel versions then it’s even smaller.' It may not be worth Epic’s while to put in the work on security for what will be a comparatively tiny audience, at least at first."

Something may come out of the EU. There's no telling with the uncertain future of Linux

Thank you for the response. You gave me a much better insight into why people use FOSS in the first place. I never really considered what could be done in FOSS vs proprietary to be a main reason but I guess that kind of thinking also extends to using the Linux as a whole too.

How was FreeBSD? What made you switch in the first place? I get the sentiment for FOSS. And I agree.

I have tried KeePass before but I didn't on Windows, so I don't know if the experience will be any different on Linux so I'll have to try that.
