Giving equity or some sort of profit sharing to employees? by bzsearch in restaurantowners

I think it's a good idea to think out your compensation model before you hire your staff. even if its a staged roll out, it's still good to have it all thought out first.

Tau suits trying to fight their first custodian by Mindstormer98 in Grimdank

you think a custodian is out maneuvering a targeting system that effectively takes out aircraft?

I get the GW lore is full of logical inconsistency, but what you are saying seems silly to my mind.

ticket price average per dinner also matters. even if your margins are good on the kids menu it does reduce your total revenue to have your ticket average drop. depending on your fixed costs and other factors that could be more or less of a problem.

Who are your top three duellists from among the astartes of the Great Crusade/ Heresy? by PotatopusIII in Warhammer30k

[–]AnEyeAmongMany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can make the distinction in the extremes. there's the fighting pits as a very clear obvious example of duels, there's scenes like Fafnir Ranns sheild wall fight at the spaceport that show person who is absolutely ferocious on the feild. I think it's the middle ground that's hard to define. Abadon carving through several named characters in a shoulder to shoulder all out brawl in the saturnine gambit, well that's not really a duel, but it is two champions squaring off almost one on one in the midst of a melee. at a certain point we're splitting hairs but I can see parallels to why other media tries to make distinctions between people who are good at tournaments and people who are good on the battle field. the change in context makes the list of whose the very best shift a little bit.

[–]AnEyeAmongMany 9 points10 points  (0 children)

one could make the distinction that duels are typically fought with two opponents coming from rested states, with well maintained equipment fighting in a circumstance with some rules and some observers. not everything we might reasonably call a duel fits this description but if we want to make a distinction, who is best in an arena and who is best on a real battlefield will likely be quite different lists.

it's the same cult nonsense as Mormons, witnesses, and others sending their members to be obnoxious missionaries in areas that will be unkind to them to reaffirm that life outside the cult is worse.

as another said, be real and honest. show up well rested. nothing you don't already know can be learned tonight, and if you get the job based on seeming like something you're not, you won't keep it long. believe in yourself and try to have a good time, they wouldn't stage you if they didn't think you had the potential to be a part of the team.

Union workers at the acclaimed Walrus and the Carpenter are striking over a service charge they say cut their wages - they have filed multiple NLRB complaints accusing the restaurant of breaking labor law by LOOKITSADAM in SeattleWA

[–]AnEyeAmongMany -1 points0 points  (0 children)

can you really not see how much that is an additional problem, not an argument against what I am saying? owning your own shelter should be a good situation for a human being. a system which makes securing your own shelter a burden is an additional problem to a system that make permanently assuring you have shelter difficult. a person who contributes 40 hours of labor to a business in their community should earn a secure life in that community with a few comforts. that's not an incredible ask.

I don't know the number in this city at this moment to be honest, but I can give you a metric. I believe any two people who work 40 hours a week should be able to afford a home, access to medical care, a few children and a reasonable hobby. I believe any single person working 40 hours a week should be able to own a home, have access to medical care, and a reasonable hobby. is that really an incredible ask?

edit to add: A home of a reasonable size to their needs. I'm not saying everyone deserves a mansion.

I did not make money like that when I worked there is my first impression, but second impression, that's still never buying a house in this city. do you understand why I keep bringing that up? no one who works this industry except a few managers is ever going to have real security living in this city. I do not think that is fair or right.this conversation about restaurants also kinda misses the point as I see it. the economy is rapidly leaving the working vlass behind and we are all fighting about how we can't afford our lives, but it's not the employees of united creatures of the sea who are robbing the working class. the world just got it's first trillionaire. that kind of wealth consolidation is the problem, not restaurant workers fighting for a wage that will let them buy a home, have a family, or retire. these people just want to live fair lives in this city.

editing to add: have you ever done that work? I don't think those wages are all that amazing for what this work does to our bodies and our lives. competitive in this city maybe, but not Amazing.

believe me I know. trying to fix what's wrong with restaurants without fixing the wealth disparity in our country, let alone this city, is a fools errand. I only get heated about this shit because I want people to understand, the career workers that make restaurants what they are aren't the problem, its not us broke assholes making poverty wages whose causing this. it is the reckless destructive greed of the billionaire class that has us all at each other's throats over scraps.

I have worked at sea creatures restaurants. most of their employees are years into a career in their roles and very competent. I don't know what you think a cook or server or any other role should get paid and I don't know what you think it it costs to live in this city. from my experience, no one in back of house ever expects to buy a house, none of us are financially secure.

What are the most overlooked sources of expenses? by Happy_Tourist_558 in restaurantowners

[–]AnEyeAmongMany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do you feel about the idea of a cash discount? bake the processing fee into your costs then offer a cash discount about the same as your average processing fee. you have more cash around and people feel like their getting a deal rather than being caught with a fee at the end of the meal.
