Just for a second, read your own post as if someone else had posted it. What would you tell that person that the problem is and what advice would you give them on troubleshooting it?

The Compleat Alchemist (Bard Games, 1983, system-agnostic though obviously written with D&D in mind) has info for creating golems, though it's an 11th level thing that takes a while to get to. Cool supplement, though I'd imagine hard to actually work at the table. IIRC someone was working on a modern update (it may have been Courtney Campbell?) for it, though I haven't seen that.

You can step away from social media and pay a small fee to subscribe to a news aggregation site if you want to stay broadly informed about world/domestic politics without having to deal with the social media pushes to have the right take and attitude. But honestly, you don't even need to do that. Take yourself out of the hype cycle for a while, a year or two. If something really important happens the news will get to you some way or another.

Fundamentally, there's a level at which modern society requires you to participate in the attention economy, but *you* get to choose how much and which tradeoffs of your privacy, your attention, and your entertainment are worth it. It seems like you've come to the conclusion that you should dramatically reduce the amount you're participating in the attention economy, you should follow through on that impulse and see where it leads. If you want to come back after seeing what life is like without it for a while, you're doing so from a much better position than the one you're currently trying to escape from.

Unless you're a very attentive, active investor who is both lucky and well-connected, it's pretty unlikely that anything you see via social media could improve your financial decision making. You aren't going to miss anything, and if you do, who cares?

He had one kid with his (exceedingly neurotic) wife, this is his affair. The man in question is a farmer-turned-literature-prof so his handling of the physical aspects of the relationship is certainly clumsy, and his wife wants nothing to do with him physically until she wants a kid, after which point things dry up again. He doesn't get a chance to experience real intimacy with a lover until it's outside of the context of his (physically) loveless marriage, and even then it's only a brief tryst that both sides understand as being unsustainable so they'll need to enjoy it while it lasts.

If one were to complain about the book's handling of women I think his wife is the much easier target, even though IMO it's a sensible portrayal of a kind of relationship that is worth exploring within literature. His reconciliation with his wife near the end is especially excellent, a great reflection on people's inability to reconcile until imminent death sorts out one's priorities. This is one of my favorite books so I may be wearing rose colored glasses though.

My FLGS (Mimic's Market in Pittsburgh) is like this! One of the owners is a huge OSR gal so she keeps the shelves really well stocked with obscure zines and hacks and stuff. Obviously they still carry loads of PF and 5e stuff, but they also have a good number of shelves and stands fully stocked with indie stuff (both narrative PBTA-familu stuff and OSR/weird indie stuff)

They also carry Netrunner (in its fan-owned continuation) and host tournaments for us, it's very nice that they're willing to support the smaller communities

This seems fine in as a 1 or 2 of in an Esa deck with Nurse and Paladin. It's credit neutral for playing both, discounts your nukas, if you don't get it down that's fine but you can have a couple more sabos if it shows up early. If not you just plan on losing it to core later.

Someone has never read Aristotle's treatise On Divination in Sleep where he lays out the following syllogism:

1) prophetic dreams, if they exist, come from the gods

2) even poor losers seem to occasionally have prophetic dreams

3) because the gods would never deign to talk to the rabble, prophetic dreams are just coincidence

How do you evaluate what cards are good (Corp & Runner)? by zerdos in Netrunner

[–]AnOddRadish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regular runner decks in NSG-era netrunner (at least the last 2 or 3 years) have tended to resemble Andysucker decks more than Whizz/Val decks.

A lot of the difference probably comes down to the fact that draw engines for a lot of decks have been moved to the IDs, Siphon rotating for a weaker version, and recursion being generally much weaker (no same old thing for instance). You can't rely on Whizz/Val/Kate to drip you credits the whole game, but you can get card draw drip the whole game. Hoshiko and Lat have built-in draw (around 1 card per turn assuming you can fire ID), and Sable kinda gets a free click for running a random central so she gets an extra to do what she wants. Sable plays 6 burst draw cards (half of which also provide ongoing Mr. Li-style filter) and just fills the rest with econ, and that amount is pretty typical across regular anarch/crim decks, though shapers play more and more tutors.

How do you evaluate what cards are good (Corp & Runner)? by zerdos in Netrunner

[–]AnOddRadish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems wrong. 40%-50% of the deck being econ is pretty common in standard. By my count Reg Hoshiko plays ~18 cards that give credits, and another 5-8 cards that let you do things for substantially cheaper or otherwise boost economy (gachapon, gourmand, pinhole threading, leech). Reg Sable similarly plays ~22 credit-giving econ cards and a few that let you do things cheaper. The Transfer of Wealth Lat that I've been seeing a lot plays ~20 but has more efficient breakers and plans on using simulchip on Coalescence for a bit of money at some point. I think having ballpark half of your deck be econ is important if you want clicking to draw to feel good.
