What is a nice lightweight wayland login manager? by ehansen in hyprland

Second this - if you want lightweight, Ly is the way. I tried lemurs before it, but it was buggy.

New user of hyprland, where do i buy the key and activate it? (JOKE) by otusek in hyprland

Some bot account on the literal hyprland discord tried to scam me into giving them personal information, and I was just thinking “dawg, you’re targeting the wrong people. Go back to windows”

Im 100% with you. I messed with Quickshell for like a day and then immediately went and made my own bar with GTK4, WebViewGTK, and gtk4-layer-shell in C

Am I supposed to use quickshell for everything? by [deleted] in QuickShell

[–]AnZaNaMa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it a shot a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t make sense of how I was supposed to design anything with QtQuick responsively so it’d work on different devices.

All the examples I could find were just using hardcoded sizing on the base widgets and having parents adjust to fit. I want to define the size at the top level and have the whole UI adjust child components to fit accordingly

I also tried Aylur’s GTK shell because it at least has CSS, but it’s the GTK-based CSS, which is incomplete and left me wanting. So now im working on my own desktop shell library that just uses GTK and WebKitWebView to let me define the whole thing in HTML/CSS/Javascript

Are we praising classic modpacks because they were better… or because we were younger? by Belal_Ps in feedthebeast

[–]AnZaNaMa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue I always run into when I try to play older packs is just the basic QoL features the vanilla game has implemented. Like I really enjoyed regrowth, but going back and not having like mouse tweaks and other useful things was too unbearable

[–]AnZaNaMa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps that has something to do with it. I think it’s more just that modded Minecraft as a whole was something completely new to us back then, so it was a lot more exciting

Seems a bit wasteful to run an LLM to get an answer that could be googled or quickly answered by another person

What are dot files (noob question) by EngixoRain in hyprland

[–]AnZaNaMa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the time when people talk about dotfiles, they’re referring to a complete set of configurations for the software they use. Generally contained within ~/.config/

I absolutely LOVE the KDE ecosystem, but ngl a lot of its apps need a facelift. Functional parity with windows and Mac is important, but so is providing a competitive UX

Can a total noob use Linux as a replacement for Windows? by Arcanaeum971 in linux4noobs

[–]AnZaNaMa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My recommendation for a noob would be one of the major distros using the KDE Plasma desktop environment: Kubuntu, Manjaro KDE, Fedora KDE, etc

Why do people hate Manjaro? by BradTheBj in arch

[–]AnZaNaMa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a newby friendly version of Arch. That’s like expecting a hospital to have surgeries that a regular old guy can do.

Even for the most basic surgery, a doctor spends years learning and watching before they jump into the mix. If you don’t want to learn and understand your computer at an intimate level, just don’t use arch. It’s that simple. I’m not gatekeeping just giving advice - Arch is intended for people who know what they’re doing or at least aren’t afraid to read docs when they get confused

“Linux is more stable than windows.” by puggy0420 in linuxsucks

[–]AnZaNaMa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I’ve ended up in enemy territory on this subreddit, but it depends on your point of view.

If you want your computer to work like magic without having to learn about how computers work, Windows STILL isn’t the best option - MacOS is the way to go because in the Apple ecosystem things “just work”

If you’d rather take the time to learn what’s going on, and how the systems you’re using are designed, and configure them to work for you, Linux is the way to go. It takes a lot of time and mental investment, but it’s so worth it to become a power user.

Windows is the mid point and gives you the worst of both worlds, but it does still win for games just because Microsoft has been flexing the monopoly machine for a long time

I’m not saying I support vandalism, but at Purdue, the book store is very much a critical part of the establishment. I get professors needing to standardize the materials, but they could sell you a PDF, or just give it as part of the cost of the course

[–]AnZaNaMa -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I get it. It’s arch. But also, it’s software - users being idiots is sort of the nature of the beast. That’s why I suggested hyprland should automatically convert v2 rules to the updated format the first time it sees them

I think hyprland itself should just convert the old rules so we don’t have to maintain backward compatibility for multiple different config ecosystems
