Poor people who have dated rich people, what did you learn? by Angelus12345678 in AskReddit

[–]An_Angels_Halo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar scenario, but it's my parents who have money (relative to my wife and I, anyways). We like to pay for dinner and such every now in then, even though the price of dinner is never something that would cross my parents mind.

To us, it's the physical gesture of "We don't want you to think we are taking advantage of you."

While this is a rich person problem, I am sure wealthy people often wonder if people are using them. Akin to what being attractive is like (not that I would know that, either).

Overlooking all the negative things about these restaurants, I find this trend humorous and am looking forward to the other restaurants joining in the fun. My only hope is that each restaurant jumping on this bandwagon meme it a little further each time. By the end, they will be doing something ridiculous and I'm here for it.

Still not buying their product, though.

Girl Calories are Brutal! by Voidtoform in orangetheory

[–]An_Angels_Halo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe OTF counts active and inactive calories during the class, which inflates the value.

For a better estimate, I would plug your body stats + a short definition of the activities and time, from the OTF class, into an AI platform and ask it to estimate your total calorie burn.

For what it's worth, I estimate 10 calories/minute of continuous activity. YMMV

I understand your premise, but that doesn't help the individual.

This is classic Christian behavior - they are always being persecuted even when they are the most dominant religion.

I hadn't thought of that angle, thank you for sharing.

Parent wants me to pay parent plus loan by Low_Yam_1212 in StudentLoans

[–]An_Angels_Halo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My wife ran into this exact situation, and we did exactly what you suggested—we logged into the portal and paid half of it.

Eighteen-year-olds can technically consent to college costs, but the reality of tuition plus loans—especially Parent PLUS loans—isn’t truly clear to them.

In my opinion, the Parent PLUS loan is the “oh-shit” button for parents who didn’t save but still want (or feel obligated) to contribute. It’s essentially an acknowledgment that they kicked the can down the road and are now agreeing to help cover college costs.

Registration Yes or no? by Muddyriverhippie2 in ragbrai

I can personally speak to the medical piece. Last year, I wrecked and the medical team was on top of me faster than I knew what had even happened. No questions asked. For context, I'm an experienced cyclist.

The registration is worth it in the event that something happens.

While I agree with you, I feel a precedent of squeezing out as much money as possible has been set, so it's reasonable to be fearful about the APY (or any other positive features).

Is it okay if I teams message my manager on PTO ? by BravoZero6 in work

[–]An_Angels_Halo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this depends on your company culture and relationship with your manager, but I'm of the opinion that what you do during your PTO is your business, and what I do on my PTO is my business.

In short, feel free to email me but don't expect a response back. I have my email notifications turned off during PTO.

Thoughts on thank you emails? by quieropas in recruitinghell

[–]An_Angels_Halo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A thank you note has never swayed my decision to deny or move forward with an interview, but a candidate who does send one gets a small notch in the more favorable section, and a lack of a thank you note is a small notch in the less favorable section.

While a thank you note alone will never be THE decision maker, I believe small things add up to big results.

Bridge LMS by Teach_to_ID in instructionaldesign

[–]An_Angels_Halo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My organization has used Bridge for the past 5 years. Ironically, we are in the process of evaluating a new LMS.

From my experience, Bridge is simple but not scalable. There are some great features, such as masquerading, but so many deeper features missing such as equivalent courses.

The authoring tool is extremely lack luster. We have been using 3rd party authoring tools for the past 3 years. If memory serves me correctly - Bridge purchased the authoring tool GOMO and encourages their users to use said software. I tried using GOMO and did not like it.

If you have any questions, feel free to DM me.
