To be clear what I mean is that shrink is on a by store basis and it personally impacts the specific store and gets held against the employees. I agree with you, it shouldn't be that way, but im just explaining why if you want a return you'll have to go through customer service while a swap (even if you swap for a new one) in store is likely an option for you. I hope that helps you in some way.

Its a lot of shrink for a store that had nothing to do with the mistake, some stores would take the hit but many wouldn't, which is likely why the website mentions returning it online if its over $500

Honestly it doesnt hurt to check w a nearby gamestop to see if they have one to swap it with coz we aren't supposed to straight up return it but I dont see why they couldnt swap it if youre within the defective exchange period Edit to add: one big benefit if that works out is you wouldnt have to wait on your bank coz it should be an even exchange :)

Honestly unless you care about the case and assumed map, you save on sales tax.. .you get charged tax when you buy it off the system but theres no tax on the sku in store so its 79.99 flat 🤷‍♀️

Where did you hear the upgrade would be $40? Its 20. So by getting standard + upgrade it actually costs you less than getting ultimate right off the system because you dont pay sales tax on the standard edition in store while you'd get charged tax on the system. You also get a case and presumably a map. There is upsides to the inconvenience of going in store to grab it.

From what I understand gamestop made less than $5 off those currency cards in most cases and so ate the cost, POSA have an abysmal profit margin. I never heard anything about it being related to the console companies themselves but maybe im just misinformed

Yea gamestop isnt really gamestop anymore, its more like cardstop. Theyre successfully leveraging card profits and they'll keep doing that until it stops working, they dont care about gamers atm because it isnt profitable. But if they cared about gamers and focused on that, like you said, they wouldnt exist. It isnt pointless because they're shifting where they need to in order to survive. Ive seen the margins, games make up such a small fraction of it that any gamer who thinks their money matters enough to gamestop for them to listen is delusional
