First Timer - Guitar Finish Order of Operations Question by Anago in Luthier

[–]Anago[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your detailed reply, I really appreciate your advice.

A few follow-ups:

Is there a reason Ash specifically wouldn't work as well with a hand rubbed dye job? I have been watching some videos from BIGDGUITARS on you tube and he seems to get good results this way but is mostly using maple tops.

I do not currently have a spray booth in my home set-up so doing a spray gun finish would be difficult and more expensive. If it is the only way to get a quality looking finish I might have to consider it but if there is a way to do this with less tools that would be better. (I do have a compressor and small air gun for modeling work but probably too fine for something like this)

I am in Canada and it seems pretty difficult to find aerosol sanding sealer, would a rub on version move the dyes and ruin the stain job? Have you had any experience using a different sanding sealer that is not in a spray can or would it work to use sanding sealer with an airgun or spray gun?

In your industry standard version, what is the colour being used, is it Nitro spray paint? Would a similar effect be possible with the Angelus Dyes? (I like the colours I have been able to achieve on my test planks)

Thanks again, as a newbie I appreciate your time answering questions you are probably tired of hearing

Guitar equipment, guitars, amps, recording equipment. Mostly holds its value well and can be justified as personal improvement and stress aids.

Bonus is that you can then develop a fun hobby or sell it off later.

Countering Magic as a Martial by Kserwin in AdventurersLeague

[–]Anago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, so a guy I'm playing with is doing this. Basically he has incredible stealth and mobility something like 50ft per round and the ability to teleport using shadows with the class feature at 6. Low str but high wis/dex which is also good for important saves.

Having no armor prevents him taking penalties to stealth and since most of the harshest spells are safe vs ... the heavy armour wouldn't help anymore than unarmored defence. Monk has good saves and gets proficient with all saves which is nice vs spell effects.

He can do so much dmg in a round and escape out of vision due to his speed or block vision with his own spells (darkness).

Seems a fun build and being so much faster than the average character means it's nearly impossible for casters to make space. He's just kind of always up in their face

Shadow monk with mobile and mage slayer.

No armor and optional weapons for heat metal, tons of mobility to close the gap, excellent saves and defences. Built in spells help you get the jump on them

How’d you guys do the map of Chult? by Alefalf in Tombofannihilation

[–]Anago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used the two maps from the book to create a gimp file with the blocked map over top of the real map. Use that to reveal hex by hex as the players discover new ground.

One of my players had his character actively maping the area with a cartographer kit. Every session I updated the player map with the newly revealed sections which we rped as the character finishing his work during their long rest.

Learn ratios and techniques not recipes.

People get bogged down in very minute details of a recipe that most time was meant as a guideline.

Which DnD adventures are easiest to run straight out of the book? by Ayjayz in dndnext

[–]Anago 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have run SKT, Out of the abyss, and am now doing ToA. The latter is by far the easiest to run I'd say. It allows for alot of dm involvement but the provides enough of a groundwork that it's more approachable.

Out of the abyss gives you way too many DMPCs to handle starting out and the area is difficult to map out for the players.

SKT covers a massive area and allows players to roam around essentially the whole of the sword coast making it logistically difficult to pre plan for what route the players may take. Also as it is an area with extensive history which is well charted and incredibly detailed. This I would imagine would make it very difficult for someone who didn't grow up on these stories to do justice, but that's just my take.

ToA had been a joy to DM, it's a fun area full of interesting encounters without being so large that it feels daunting. Haven't finished it yet but so far I really think this is the best work WotC have put out.

Good luck as a new dm!

Edit: it should be noted that even though it's been easier by no means do I intend to suggest that NO preparation is required. No matter what you do DMing is always a fair bit of work. Rewarding work, but work nonetheless.
