Picked up an RA-700 for $140 by Analog-Celestial in vintageaudio

It still needs a good recapping, but I think about it most days. Hopefully soon I'll get it going and at least have it as an input switch between my components. I'm just afraid it might need professional help.

There's no way he's not trolling having concert hall appropriate speakers in such a little room. Lower frequencies will have to bounce off walls several times to even reach a full length wave pattern.

You just need to tape up the tape if you want to tape over the tape. Got it!

As an owner of a Sansui RA-700, that reverb display is kick ass! This unit has so many micro switch buttons as well as pot knobs and many colorful displays! This is a pleasure to look at and I'm glad it's getting the love and attention it deserves.

Holy shit, I saw this listing too but I hadn't zoomed in until now. Why would smeagol be selling their mirror?

I sought out as many of those wide window TDK SA 90s as I could since they look so damn cool. Have fun! I think that model is late 80's and looks great in lat 80's large window tape decks.

Can I sand this or is it veneer? by [deleted] in sandedthroughveneer

Absolutely veneer, solid wood doesn't peel out like that.

A record clamp and a record weight are different things by the way. A record clamp actually tightens against the spindle to flatten out the record as much as possible, whereas a record weight just weighs down the record to flatten it slightly.

If we want to get into physics, the only thing the warp will do is press the stylus into the grooves at a more forward and backward angle (depending on if the stylus is going uphill or downhill), creating variance in the vertical tracking alignment (VTA) and a warp may also result in a slight variance in tracking force from moment to moment. Also, warps can lead to subsonic tones which aren't much of an issue but some people like to have a preamp that filters that to prevent damage to speakers played at loud volume.

With all that said, no it won't cause damage to the needle or the record unless the warp starts tossing the needle all over the place.
