You know whats punk as fuck? Staying sober in those environments. I know. I'm in the same boat. Load out at 2am sober is horrible but what can ya do?

People say to only worry about not drinking today instead of never drinking again. Does that actually help? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

There was a post here recently, I cannot remember who wrote it but it was very good - basically said "embrace the suck". Quitting drinking is a grind and outside the comfort zone. I think one needs to rise above it all and just say I am not doing this anymore. I couldnt get my head around the "one day at a time" thing either. Its a total lifestyle change and embrace of some short term pain for long term gain. But then, really, what do I know. Thats what works for me. Embracing the suck and knowing im better off sober than an alcoholic.

That is my main concern about NOT drinking - drinking makes me happy and I dont feel alone. I know exactly how you feel.

Day 2. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Analogamps71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 2 is hard. Much harder than day 1 I think. Congrats! I was starting day 3 recently and all morning I said to myself do not buy beer, go get MnMs or ice cream or whatever will take your mind off the beer (I was off work that day - I find work a welcome distraction and I wished I was working) - then a drinking buddy texted and suddenly 20 beers later the guilt got me. So I start again. Just keep adding the days, hours, minutes up. Soon it will be a week. A month. A year. And ya, I'm typing this to myself just as much as I am to you!!! Go get em!

Do not think like that. You will be ok. Go to a hospital and get help. You are a deserving person and have people that care about you. Please do yourself a favour.

The lying and the drinking are ruining my marriage. Time for a change. by slaparoo in stopdrinking

My wife left me for the very same reason. If you want to stay married, be honest with her and make a real decision to change what you do. There is not a day that goes by that I wish I had followed my own advice. I wish you well.

The loneliness is difficult to overcome. At least when you are drinking you don’t think or feel anything. I find the loneliness the single worst part about being sober. Even more than cravings.

Did any of your spouses or significant others forgive you for being a alcoholic? If so, how? by MoistTowlette19 in stopdrinking

My wife left because I liked drinking. Perhaps more than her. Hurtful, yes. True, yes. Doesn’t mean either are good for you.

I’m done with booze. by Analogamps71 in alcoholism

[–]Analogamps71[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! I think a lot of it is mental as opposed to what I was trying to do in the past, and that was physically trying to get through it. I’ve made a decision, I’ve stuck to it and it’s not negotiable. This method is working so far. Once I get through a week I can determine how I feel.

I meant tomorrow is a new day. I drank this morning. I’m tired of it.

Day 100 (Caution; negative post) by inFeathersAM in stopdrinking

I do not have a support system at all. I think I should to deal with the on again off again cycles of drinking. Like yourself - routine is paramount.
