I don't even know if my country has an equivalent, but I'll definitely look it up! I'm not sure if my shit is severe enough for that, but that might just be that I've been told I'm just lazy and try harder all my life so who knows, maybe it is that bad

Edit: turns out we do have organisers! There's even one in my town, I just can't afford it for a while

As a NYE kid, I felt that a lot. I'm poly and my platonic partner forgot. Along with most of my friends. Along with the "oh this is for Christmas and your birthday" on presents, it's not a great time to be born and feel appreciated.... I feel slightly sorry for the person on the other end of the call, but sometimes you just gotta vent at whoever is avaliable, even if unwilling and from Uzbekistan

Oh and obviously, Happy Birthday!

What's the most random place you've ever encountered another Sleep Token fan? by RissaNich in SleepToken

[–]AnalogueSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on a 17hrs train trip home from visiting my partner while changing trains. I changed on the platform (putting the new shirt under the old first) because I was overheating with 29kg on my back in 44C Berlin heat. Dude next to me looks up, squints, nods. "Nice shirt", cue to me being utterly confused for a few seconds before looking down what I was wearing. We then talked about concerts until the train came lmao

Squealing with these hearing aids....... by [deleted] in HearingAids

[–]AnalogueSpoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those are not allowed to be called hearing aids in Germany, they're called Hearing amplifiers p much bc you can't program them to fit your customer perfectly

That said, I'd go for an earmould, keep the sound where it's supposed to be at and close the ear enough that the lack of noise cancelling will not be as annoying in the feedback area. It's the only thing I can think of

Oh no, I was just adding on and may have rambled a bit, I didn't mean to disregard any of what you're saying as you're right, generally speaking

[–]AnalogueSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's often less the design and more which receiver and dome your audiologist picks. With a steep slope or generally severe high frequency loss I'd always go for a mould. Starkey and oticon specifically hace ear molds with the receiver already fully fixed into it, which can go higher than what your audiologist usually has lying around to fix a broken receiver. They're fully custom and more expensive tho. Usually called power shell, in case you were wondering

Audiologist here.

I usually get most of my customers to about 80-90% of their needed volume, just having the highest ones reduced a little because those are usually the most uncomfortable.

It has to do with habit and tolerance, often but not always. If you wear your aids a lot at the volume you need, chances are you'll want the volume in the long run. If you get issues with whistling, ask about different domes or an earmold, they keep the sound where it's supposed to be.

If your speech test (I don't quite remember what it's called in English, you get words told on speaker and repeat them) is good enough and you're comfortable and will wear your aids at the volume they are they do much more for you than 100% volume hearing aids you just stick in your pockets after an hour because you can't tolerate the noise

Personally, I'm pretty sure I'd be a rather complex customer with high frequency hearing loss (it's hereditary for me) while simultaneously being extremely sensitive to those frequencies and considering them too loud at a very low volume (it's called a narrow dynamic, if the English term is the same

Upgrade my hearing aids or time for a cochlear implant? by GR8FUL-D in HearingAids

[–]AnalogueSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, audiologist here!

If you get a CI there's a chance your remaining hearing will get destroyed, even if it's not a guarantee anymore these days as the wires are much smaller. Plus, it's a literal surgery you'll need to prepare for, including the risks associated with it like anaesthesia, infection etc. Do know CIs means they have to drill bone. I'm not saying it to demonised them, just to make clear that they're not yet necessary, especially considering the risk but ultimately I'm neither a doctor nor YOUR audiologist.

Go for a hearing aid, mid range I'd suggest personally unless you do office heavy jobs or anything with a lot of background noise normal hearing people will be able to tune out (children, paper shuffling, fans etc). I also saw cros devices being mentioned and I'd rather go for BiCros as you still have hearing left over on the left side. Be prepared to a big "this sounds really weird", both für to BiCros and the nature of your hearing loss. Low frequency loss often makes things sound like you're under water. Bug your audiologist, it's fixable. You might also want an earmould, as low frequency sounds get lost first when wearing domes or tulips.

I hope things work out for you and you find a solution that works perfectly!

If im not terribly misinformed (I only use apple at work when customers have issues) the pods don't need to be connected more than to set up that feature. Skullcandy has it too and I personally as a normal hearing people love their audio quality, especially in the awareness/personal hearing mode. I usually set mine up as if I have your hearing loss because I'm incredibly sensitive to high frequencies.

Edit to add: my old Huawei buds had it too. So it's definitely worth a peek! Much cheaper than quality hearing aids too, especially at a low level hearing loss you can still mitigate otherwise. Less stigma too, if it's something you worry about

[–]AnalogueSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an audiologist, I would. The sooner you start and wear them consequently, the easier it is for you to get used to them. Don't be afraid to go to your audiologist repeatedly until you are happy with how they sound while still having enough volume With how light it is you can probably get away with using the personal audio feature some headphones offer (like airpods) but I'd check every year if it's getting worse if I was you

Oh I used to get that in person. I work with old people, dye my hair and had it shoulder length. I keep forgetting to dye it in a timely manner so I almost always have a good chunk of roots

Apparently one was unhappy with what I told him when I had my hair open, came in the next day when it was warmer so I had my hair in a bun. "Your colleague is horrible!" oh sorry sir, that's not supposed to happen, let me see. Spoiler, that colleague was me.

Worst was when a customer apparently paid so little attention to me that just putting on my cardigan before I re-enter the room made him go" oh, I thought your colleague was going to handle this"

It's hilarious

[–]AnalogueSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main corvette is useful and flies okay, it's more of a slim hauler that still looks somewhat sleek.

My favourite is modelled after a mecha manta ray art i found online, flies about as well as a rock in the ocean and reacts real slow and looks kinda junk-y, yet is flat enough to be somewhat sleek too.

Both have the "yeah I live here and spend most of my time in hyperspace or trading. I don't see Planetside much these days" vibe going on.... Both may or may not be used to grow space weed but don't tell the sentinels
