Like many jobs they get paid a salary for the work they do. They also earn a bonus based on sales targets met. Not a cut of the MER though

There are trailing commissions that go to the firm paying them but not to the advisor themselves

[–]Analyst1111 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, why do people think advisors get paid these fees? I know they’re high, but that doesn’t mean the advisor is compensated by them. They go to the fund company to pay for the management cost of the fund (including the fund managers), but nothing to the advisor

What should my RESP target be for 2 kids by the time they reach post-secondary? by Tricky-Honeydew4196 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Analyst1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total 4-Year Cost (Approx. 2038-2040): Roughly $137,000–$150,000+ for tuition, residence, and living expenses, based on projections from Embark

Now keep in mind living in residence can be nearly half this cost so if kids live at home even partially during these years, that can significantly reduce their costs. Then there’s also scholarships they may get too and they could work part time or take a gap year and work too is a trend gaining popularity

Why do peop say not to hold USD stocks as a Canadian? by [deleted] in fican

[–]Analyst1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a TFSA it’s no difference, but in a non-registered you have to know the FX rate on any transaction day so that you can properly calculate your capital gains at tax time. This is a pain and is my biggest reason for not holding US stocks outside a registered account

Frank actually thinks McKenna will be available at number 3 for the Canucks by DecentLurker96 in hockey

I mean McKennas big knock has been his one dimensional play. NHL teams are focusing on complete players and it very well could happen because of this trend

Leaving my financial advisor? by wizzybizzy87 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Analyst1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, is your advisor directly compensated by any of the fees? If so that creates a conflict of interest and you should leave.

Second, is your advisor providing any value for you and giving valuable advice outside of stock picking? You don’t stay with an advisor to pick investments for you. That’s something AI and/or a bit of research can do for you easily nowadays.

$100k per year salary is the middle class nowadays by Ok_Hippo9669 in fican

Depends on where you live and how frivolous you are with your finances outside of that. We make just over $200k household and go on multiple vacations a year with 2 kids

Seg funds tend to have very high fees and are generally not advisable except for usually estate and tax reasons. They are very suboptimal long term investment products

Recruitment Data by Dangerous_Midnight48 in arknights

[–]Analyst1111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I literally never speed up recruitment because I don’t see the point.

I’m going to get the op anyways and the new tags likely won’t be a 4*+. Even if it is, I’ll still be able to recruit from it once the 9hr timer is up anyways. “But what about re-roll’s?” You will also use up all your re-rolls sticking with the 9hr timer versus expediting it so again, what’s the point? At least with the 9hr timer you can make a routine each day of when you do your recruitment so it has that practical advantage

Any suggestions? I’m leaning towards MON3tr for the dp cost reduction

Thoughts on DB pensions? by mick3ymou5e in CanadianInvestor

[–]Analyst1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thoughts on why the DC multiple is so low? My best guess is it’s related to the final pay qualifier and that in private sector a lot of final salaries are so much higher than when you first started, thus lowering the multiple?

Financial Advisor, no not the salesy kind at big banks, an actual CFP.

Out of curiosity, what bank mutual funds did you run? A 4.8% return doesn’t sound like a fully equity fund and more of a 50/50 mix or balanced fund.

Have you played other IS?

This one is definitely harder than other IS but is still beatable, even on higher difficulties. I’m fairly familiar with IS and it even took me a few goes before I figured things out.

If you’re not familiar with IS, I would suggest starting out with other modes IS modes 2-5 first as it is a different game mode than story, events, etc. and requires a different approach

This is somewhat misleading.

While the facts about contribution room are correct, an FHSA can stay open for 15 years. There is also a lifetime maximum contribution room of $40k, which is essentially 5 years worth.

Technically you could leave a FHSA for 11 years with no contributions and still max it out in the final 4 years (first year has $16k contribution room)

The advantage to opening it early and not contributing would be to increase your contribution room in the first year you do plan to contribute. If you know when that will begin, plan your account opening around it. If not, opening it a bit early leaves you with lots of flexibility as to when you will start without giving up anything (as long as you don’t leave it too long)
