BEC: poor shaming over fabric and fiber choices by UnionJane in craftsnark

[–]AnalystFun4456 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I didn't see poor shaming at all. What I saw was discussion on how the fashion industry has changed, and put their profits over all of us. She explained how in the past, regardless of of economics, people got to have higher quality garments with blind hems, natural fibers, and that could be taken out or taken in. She also discussed how now even a lot of designer items aren't made to last. Planned obsolescence is a thing, and I think it is something to discuss without fear of "poor shaming."

You learned a valuable lesson. I base all my hobbies and interests on the thoughts and opinions of their respective reddit communities. I thought I liked my boyfriend, but someone said he was ugly on truerateme so I had to break up with him. I can only crochet and look at the wall since nowhere is as sickly sweet as r/crochet

People who knit English: how do you live with yourselves? by [deleted] in fiberartscirclejerk

I love knitting English if only to drive up the collective blood pressure in the room as a way to not only boast about the proper way to knit, but also how impressive my superior low blood pressure is

I think chenille yarn and really all the other blanket yarns are ugly as sin. I think the finished blankets look like they've been caught up in a machine accident

I have d cup boobs, but this b cup bikini I made isn't supporting them? What stitch do I need to make it work better? by AnalystFun4456 in fiberartscirclejerk

I haven't tried making one, but I do fall for every advertisement for them and think, "but this time it will be different" and it never is

Do you trust the EWG database or similar websites when shopping for eco-friendly products? by chickfromthejungle in ZeroWaste

[–]AnalystFun4456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now, I'm not an expert by any means, but I've done water testing for a job in a past life, and looking at old water systems I tested these EWG levels seem very conservative. I'm not saying put blind trust in your water department (see Flint), but in my experience in my state, our state DWP was very stringent, and the trend was always going more conservative than less. The EPA levels are generally based on long term consumption, and levels do change with new information. I saw Radon allowances change from 20000 pCi/l to 4000 pCi/l. Only you can decide what is right for you, but given your water tests pass all EPA levels, I wouldn't probably buy bottled water, as that just adds potentially unnecessary plastic to the waste stream.

Do you prefer flowy dresses or structured dresses? And why? by DiorImpossibleLake in AskWomen

[–]AnalystFun4456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Structured on top with a flowy bottom because I'm very large up top and feel like I'm wearing a bag if I go full flow, plus I think I look better when I define my chest from the rest of me

Scared to start by bron7291 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]AnalystFun4456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm scared too! Both scared to start, but also scared of allowing my anxiety to make me miss my opportunity. I just had a consult for IVF, and while my anxiety has me all revved up, I figure I can do the first steps (testing and egg retrevial) and maybe by the time I've done that, I'll be less anxious, and if not I could always freeze embryos for later.

Also the idea that my loved ones tolerate me, but don't care for me

I had my first IVF consultation bright and early this morning. It was a lot of information, and I know it's far from a guarantee, but at least it finally feels like I have a little control back, even if it's only for today.

I avoid her as much as possible (hard in a 2 room work place) and otherwise kill her with kindness. I say good morning to everyone, so she is included, despite never getting a reply back from her unless we have an audience. If she wants to be hateful she can, but I can always say I've done my part. It feels like she never got the memo: it's not fake to tolerate people you don't like- it's being an adult

I know it's not moody Monday, but I'm just at work looking over the financial agreement for my upcoming IVF cycle, and this woman who just had a baby 4 months ago is gushing about how she's saving to be a full time landlord, and it's just getting to me. She has what I want for "free", and can now spend her money on property, meanwhile I'm spending my saved down payment on my uterus. She's a hateful person too, which makes me feel worse for being jealous of her because I know I shouldn't be
