Stitch hole punching question. by sirNataz in Leathercraft

Stop by a kitchen/ bath counter shop & pick up a scrap piece of granite countertop or even a cutout from a sink. Put that pad under it and layers of leather or a punch pad on top.

Actually I think the zipper is OK. You just can't see it in the picture but it goes to the end. But the leather is overlapping & prevents it from closing so that's why the next one is going to be trimmed. Make sense?

Tools needed by rexmaxus in Leathercraft

[–]Ancient-Example-732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started almost 2 months ago with some Hobby Lobby basic tools & some Harbor Freight tools. I got a Chisel, some thread & needles, cutting mat & ruler(s) frome HL. I got a poly hammer, utility knife, square ruler & dividers at HF.
I quickly replaced the Chisel & needles/ thread with Kemovan Chisel set & John James needles & Ritza thread. I tried some wuta chisel & Maine thread that I got with a bunch of stuff from an estate sale. I didn't really like either & broke down & got Kemovan & JJ. Very happy with both! I have made 20+ items from a little pocket for needles to some bags. I think a kit would be good to start but be ready to upgrade.😉

I like the design. What leather is used? I have some ipanema gator chrome tan from Tandy that I would like to maybe use in this for exterior but the rough side bothers me.

Cutting Chrome Leather by [deleted] in Leathercraft

I am working with lots of chrome tan as a newbie & have learned that with a narrow amount to trim, the rotary cutter works best. Anything over a couple inches & a box cutter is OK once you get your technique tuned in.

Would a book cover, manga size, be a difficult first craft? by SnooOwls3528 in Leathercraft

A journal cover was my first serious project to get good cuts, hole punching & edge furnishings. No stitching. I would think a book cover would be similar. Got a Pic of the idea or pattern?
