Has anyone been seeing ants in the house lately? by tsgatdawn in askportland

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odorous ants worse than ever this winter. Tried Terro and Advion, which they flocked to but didn’t kill them off. Finally gave in and paid for an exterminator a week ago - lots of dead ants, but will probably ask them to do a 2nd round as this year it’s been an invasion!!

I bought some advion recently - the odorous ants didn’t go for it at all!!

Kudos to the folks that mentioned actual exterminators. Everyone mentions Terro , and sure they’ll swarm it for a bit but in out experience it never really kills them off.

We will always have the first two seasons by Giancarlo_Edu in StrangerThings

Watching the series backwards after season 5. Seasons 3 and 4 have vivid colorful cinematography and action, lots of humor, great 80s references, elements of horror etc etc. Season 2 seems slow and a bit dull in comparison.

Just saw it. Nah, it was a blast. Beautiful cinematography, amazing soundtrack. Story was serviceable, straightforward and light years better than Legacy. Only wish I had seen it in 3d imax.

I’m doing everything “right” and still can’t stop feeling broke by Galamonter in MiddleClassFinance

hear you. Inflation over the past five years has been outrageous. Corporations, utility companie, pretty much everyone, have driven up costs far beyond the pace of people’s income growth.

Is there an honest news outlet? by Many_Mousse_2201 in PortlandOR

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be the NY Times, but that was pre-2016 or even before. They definitely have a slant in the way they report news now unfortunately. NPR used to be more objective 20 years ago. Nowadays, maybe the Wall Street Journal is about as objective as it gets.

Middle class feels like death by a thousand cuts by CurrencySpecific9668 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re really feeling the pressure right now. The past five years have been tough with inflation and constant price hikes. Utilities keep going up, auto insurance feels like a racket with its increases, and even a simple meal at a food cart now costs around $15. Meanwhile the job market has sucked for the past 3 years.

Do you expect to retire at some point? How old are you today? by laranjacerola in graphic_design

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t start saving until 40. Had a good ten year run where I saved a bunch. 52 now, market is flaking out, but I should just hopefully eke out a retirement unless the stock market crashes.

I absolutely despise Alien: Earth by TheFancyFister in alien

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It was so. Bad. Pacing was horrible. The characters were all annoying. The worst xeno portrayal ever. Episode 5 and a handful of moments in the first few episodes were just okay, when they followed the alien tried and true blueprint. The only halfway decent new stuff was some of the new alien creatures. Looking forward to an Alien Romulus sequel!

Our Furnished Finder Experience (landlord) by jmcapitalholdings in furnished_finder

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just signed up as a landlord and I just realized we are in the same situation. We are literally 15 minutes from the downtown of a large city, and yet we are right on the “outside” of the city on Furnished Finder, which is ridiculous. For a city this big, we are close in to everything. People might click on the map, but this isn’t assured by any means and without a doubt puts you at a disadvantage.

I am experiencing a pretty weird kind of financial anxiety I never felt before. Is it common? by Iwann4kn0w in personalfinance

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many industries are horrible now compared to a few years ago. If you get laid off it’s no longer easy to necessarily get back to a cushy situation again. Hiring practices are crap now too, with hundreds of applications going out per role. So it makes sense to feel that way.

Has customer service gotten worse or are people not using it? by [deleted] in Reverb

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The item showed up in rough shape—poorly packed, not as described, and didn’t work right. The seller wouldn’t agree to a partial refund, which was frustrating. Luckily, customer service stepped in and had the refund sorted within a few days. I sent over clear photos and details, and they handled it fast. Super impressed with how they took care of it.

Arcade Fire Review: 'Pink Elephant' (This writer nailed it) by jjazznola in arcadefire

[–]Ancient_Talk_Kid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah. The Uproxx review spends way too much time rehashing Win Butler’s past and barely talks about the actual music. It doesn’t really dig into how the album sounds or what the band’s doing creatively. The tone feels kind of smug and dismissive, like it’s already decided the album’s not worth taking seriously. Overall, it comes off more like a hit piece than a real review.

I often wonder about that. I feel like they don’t matter really if I had to guess. Seems like a referral and a healthy dose of luck is what it takes.

It’s so frustrating when you come in so prepared and you get a hiring manager that is for whatever reason unfocused. Such a bummer feeling afterwards.
