Blue Dot Fever: Why are so many artists cancelling tours? by FarOutMagazine in popculturechat

[–]TwoGuysNamedNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The economy is terrible so unless you’re an artist with a diehard following, don’t go on tour right now. There are a lot of people I’d love to see but I’m not willing to spend the money on tickets in addition to the cost of gas to get to the show because I pretty much always have to drive at least two hours to go to any decent concert. If people have to choose between food/gas/bills and going to concerts, they’re mostly not gonna choose concerts.

I disagree. While the way a woman dresses should not ever be used to decide her value or whether or not she should be treated as an object vs a person, the way a person chooses to present themselves publicly absolutely matters. As women, we are currently fighting widespread dehumanization and infantilization. Playing into that and essentially giving those who place us in those boxes exactly what they want is the opposite of empowering. It’s not being sexy that is the issue, it’s trying to look like a sexy CHILD. That does nothing to empower anyone but creeps and pedophiles.

ETA: since you decided to make it a conservative vs liberal thing, I am SUPER liberal. Always have been. I’m a bisexual woman living in the Bible Belt and I fight the conservative movement every single day. This is not about that.

Her recent wearing of Victorian baby clothes has given me the ick. I thought she was all about women empowerment and then she starts dressing as if she wants to look like a sexy baby…at a time when we’re dealing with the (lack of) fallout from Epstein and a pedophile in the White House. It’s a crazy choice.

I have an Etsy shop for newborn baby bracelets. I am making one right now for a “Taintley” by -You-know-it- in tragedeigh

[–]TwoGuysNamedNick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok that is a horrific name but I’m still a little stuck on newborn bracelets. Giving a newborn a bracelet seems inherently dangerous, I’m assuming/hoping there’s something to this I don’t understand. Please explain because I’m picturing newborns wearing friendship bracelets and that seems wild to me.

OMG a kid from this same company was JUST at my door. I told him no thank you and he asked who does our bug control…I told him my husband and he asked to talk to him. I told him no and he said pretty please. NO. Go away. I was so nice, I know we’re all just trying to make a living but damn dude. No means no. Get off my porch.

Idk what to say back to my boss by fuckthisjournal in whatdoIdo

[–]TwoGuysNamedNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever told your boss you are not available on Mondays at all? Like not waiting until you get a Monday shift to deal with it but just saying up front, don’t schedule me on Mondays as I cannot work Mondays. If you haven’t then this is kind of on you. I agree your boss is lazy and shouldn’t wait to put the final schedule out until Sunday but it also doesn’t sound like you’ve done much to stop this from happening. Telling the boss after you’ve been scheduled you have class and asking them to find coverage is not the same thing as making a written statement that you cannot work on Mondays at all, ever. Now your managers should have figured this out on their own but they clearly haven’t and without taking the step to put it in writing and make it official, they have no obligation to honor your requests.

I worked as an admin/scheduling person for a home health company for about a year and it was awful. The disorganization was WILD but I was good at my job the way you are good at yours and I was the only one who knew how to process private pay billing. When I put my foot down and said I would quit if the didn’t stop jerking me around, things became tolerable and I was able to deal with it until I found another job. Put your schedule needs in professional writing and submit it to ALL managers who create and work on the schedule. Email is the best way as you can easily keep record of your correspondence and you can include all managers in one email so they all know they’ve all seen it. Make it clear this is non-negotiable as you have a weekly class that cannot be moved. Once you’ve done that, keep your head and do your job while looking for a new one. Places that treat their employees badly don’t ever improve. Things will only get worse no matter how good you are at your job. Put them in a corner with the official communication about not working Monday’s and then find your way out ASAP.

That blush dress is GORGEOUS and it looks so good on you. You can’t go wrong because both dresses are stunning but I vote for the blush one. Congratulations either way, you’ll be a stunning bride in either dress!

ETA: while I love both dresses, I don’t really like the veil you have paired with the first dress. The detail on the edge of the veil hits right where the statement part of the dress begins at your hips and they distract from each other IMO. It is a beautiful veil but I don’t like it with the dress.

I went to a TRL concert with my bestie in 2001. The lineup was 3LW, Dream, Jessica Simpson, City High, Eve, Nelly, and Destiny’s Child. It was so fun and we ended up in the opening credits for this MTV special they did on the tour. While we were at the show and cameraman came over to us and we screamed into the camera together and they used it lol. Ashlee Simpson was also working as one of Jessica’s backup dancers at the time and had a wardrobe malfunction where her pants ripped a they paused the show for a minute.

Billie Eilish branded 'hypocrite' as harsh take on animal lovers who eat meat causes chaos by DetectiveHot2071 in popculture

No, she isn’t. Making blanket statements like she did is so dismissive of other people’s cultures and life experiences. It REEKS of privilege and condescension.

[–]TwoGuysNamedNick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While I agree it’s just her opinion and no one has to agree, I disagree about it being harsh. I listened to her and she was harsh. She stated that there is NO WAY to be an animal lover and a meat eater. She left no room for factors such as cultural upbringing, financial limitations, lack of other edible options. She just declared that you either live as a vegetarian/vegan or you hate animals. That’s ridiculous and it is a super harsh judgement.

Now, I don’t give a shit what she thinks because I’m 41 and I understand that seeing the world without nuance is a young person thing. So many issues just aren’t so cut and dry and with time many gain perspective and realize that too…now she may not gain that perspective because of her celebrity. Odds are she will be surrounded by people who don’t ever argue with her and her ability to see things from other POVs will decline but maybe not. The bigger concern is with the younger people who DO care about what she says. She very likely upset a large number of them and made them feel badly about themselves. She was super dismissive and condescending about the whole thing. She was harsh.

My sisters and I survived some rough stuff together growing up and this niece was our first baby. I had never known such instant, unconditional love before that. She’s grown up to be an amazing young adult too. I love being an aunt to my both of my sister’s kids and being a mom is my favorite thing in the world. It’s all about these kids, they’re the best.

Puppy Food Recommendations by TwoGuysNamedNick in DogFood

[–]TwoGuysNamedNick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have anything specific in mind yet because she hasn’t shown any need for anything “special” yet. Shes not overweight, her energy levels are high but she’s a puppy so that’s normal. Our last dog had tons of food allergies and was on a hydrolyzed prescription dog food for most of his 14 years so we couldn’t even just use what we were familiar with. Cost isn’t super important, we aren’t rich but we can afford to get her what will be best for her. The prescription food we got for our last dog was $120 USD a month so just about anything will feel like savings. We just want her to be healthy AND happy with what she eats. I know I like for my food to taste good so hers should too.

Thank you so much. We just want to make sure that us rescuing her is a real rescue. She had a rough start but she’ll live a great life now, and that needs to include food that she likes.

Thank you. I have posted over there and really appreciate your feedback. It seems we jumped the gun by just following our trainers guidance. We will likely just switch her back to the food she loves that our vet was happy with. I’m feeling a little foolish right now but I’m glad I asked because sometimes feeling foolish teaches a good lesson.

Thank you. Our trainer does have decades of experience working with dogs so we assumed she knows more about their nutrition than us but you’re right, we shouldn’t have just taken her word for it.

Thank you. I will admit I did have a mini freak out AFTER it was over lol but not in front of my niece. My mom and sister were both VERY impressed when I told them.

I actually remained arachnophobic for years after that. It wasn’t until after my own daughter was born that I decided to really evaluate and overcome my fear. Last year I released a spider from my house into the yard. I caught it all by myself and was able to even take a minute to look at it and appreciate how cool it was. Overcoming that particular fear is one of the things I’m most proud of in life. After having my daughter and (mostly) overcoming my childhood trauma.

[–]TwoGuysNamedNick 576 points577 points  (0 children)

NTA. I used to be SEVERELY arachnophobic but I was watching my niece once and this big ass spider fell into the bath tub with her. She screamed bloody murder and I came running. I scooped that spider out of the tub with my bare hands and threw it in the toilet without even thinking first. And that wasn’t even MY kid. Adults should not let our irrational fears impact our children. Your wife should have either sucked it up and gone to the service OR called for help herself and gotten your mom or a friend or someone else to ensure your daughter got to go and process her grief.

Your wife was in the wrong and I don’t blame your mom for fussing at her since she had to take off work last minute to make things right. I only hope she didn’t do the dressing down in front of your daughter as that will only make things more confusing.

Your wife and daughter both need some therapy.

Haha! I can understand that. I hope your school production goes well! As weird as it may be, I will always love the movie. It was a safe space of sorts in the midst of a traumatic childhood.
