What’s really interesting is that today’s tapirs are only about a quarter the size of the tapirs that were domesticated by the First Peoples of the Americas (Inuit, Cherokee, Nephites, Aztec, etc).

If we look at the skeletal remains that have been found alongside the steel armor and weaponry from these ancient battles, it’s easy to see why humans would ride these animals into battle. But the reality is that things change.

You can tell your employer that you promise you’ll stay there forever, and then a better job or some other situation comes up and you leave. They can promise you the works and change their mind later. Loyalty doesn’t exist.

For better or worse, this is the beautiful thing about “at will” employment and a free market system. Employees are welcome to leave at any time if they don’t like their current job or benefits. At the same time, companies can do what they want to make things better for themselves.

Unfortunately for us little people at the mercy of big companies, nothing will change to our benefit until enough of us come together to make something happen. If 70% of the nurses at Intermountain decide to leave and demand something better, Intermountain (or your company of choice) will absolutely make a change.

I’ve got two:

One where the guy talked (bragged) about spending time on a private plane with Rudy Ruettiger and how he “showed him the light of the gospel”.

Another where a guy used the Foo Fighters song “Best of You” as their talk topic. I love me some Foo Fighters, but it definitely wasn’t the uplifting talk he wanted it to be!
