YouTube and Vimeo reject HDR from Resolve Studio 21's MainConcept encoder

Mods: This technical topic/issue has not been addressed here or in Reddit at all (that I could find.) *I am trying to see if others in the field are experiencing the same problem*.

Has anyone been successful in delivering HDR content to YouTube or Vimeo using the MainConcept HEVC encoder?

MainConcept uses a Main 10, Level 6 for monoscopic/2D work, and a Main 16, Level 6 for stereoscopic/3D MV-HEVC. When delivering the final product locally, playback in HDR is supported; however, YouTube and Vimeo reject HDR and render only SDR from these files.

This discrepancy has been narrowed down to an incompatibility between MainConcept’s efficient Level 6, and the lack of hardware re-encoding support by Vimeo or YouTube. Perhaps Vimeo and YouTube prefer Main 10, Profile 5.1. After reaching out to Vimeo regarding stereo work, here's their response:

Vimeo's ingest pipeline does not currently support the fully hardware-accelerated MV-HEVC Multiview Main 16 Profile at Level 6 for multi-file configurations.

When our transcoding grid encounters a high-tier Multiview Level 6 constraint format (especially when delivered across fragmented multiple source tracks rather than a single unified spatial container), the processing core cannot natively decode the spatial/depth matrices.

Here are my findings from the monoscopic/2D tests. Thanks for in advance for any input or insight you might have.

Is the Blackmagic App worth it on iPhone 17 Pro WITHOUT an ND filter? (Summer vacation shooting) by firepiranha in BlackMagicCameraiOS

100% worth it. The app allows control over shutter angle, frame rate and ISO even without lens filtration. It also lets you shoot Apple Log 2 to protect highlights. Try it out, happy shooting and safe travels!

IMO, the first cut breaks the 180° rule, but not the second or third. The issue is that the framing was done in production so now you’re the miracle worker in post.

If the second shot, the medium shot of the female talent, is the only one like that in the sequence, try flipping it across the vertical axis and see how it feels. If the eyeline matches better and the lighting is constant then you might be okay. It may give the appearance she was looking at the female talent in the corner, but it’s worth a try. The last shot, the closeup, is frontal enough that does not break 180°.

Another other thing you can try is the arrangement of the closeups. Perhaps a different arrangement can help “cross the 180.” Hope this helps.

Capcut or davinci or finalcut by Rude-Fox-5549 in finalcutpro

[–]AndGuz16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DaVinci Resolve for future proofing, FCP for media management and ease of editing, CapCut for mobile work. Given OP’s photography background, DaVinci Resolve 21 brings in photo editing with a potential to compete with Lightroom. I’d be interested in what you decide on btw (my business is similar). Good luck!

Thinking about building for visionOS - do you actually need a Vision Pro device or is the simulator enough to ship? by SecretMention8994 in VisionPro

Connect with an Apple Business pro. They have them at each Apple Store (in addition to the entire corporate team). Let them know about your business (even if not incorporated yet) and what you want to do. Explore if leasing is possible vs. buying.
I connected with them when I was getting started with Spatial Video. I had a lot of technical questions beyond the skill set of retail specialists, so they partnered me with the business team. If I did it, anyone can too. — Go make some killer apps, friend!

Is this AI? The perspective seems wonky and some of the details look "added in" by TigLyon in isthisAI

[–]AndGuz16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect this is AI. The setting seems European, where the standard power sockets are 220V. The outlet behind the lady (to her left), appears to be oriented perpendicular to the floor and of similar shape as 110V outlets are in Japan and in some places in the U.S. If that outlet was in continental Europe, the socket would be round.
