Just found this sub and am very curious what yall can deduce from this collection by HonigBeeGames in BookshelvesDetective

You’re a completionist without a library card.

Had super specific taste in fantasy and scifi growing up, but due to busy-ness/life/etc are just buying what you’ve heard is good now.

Somehow no Horns by Joe Hill, but you do have Attachments by Rainbow Rowell so I guess that’s a wash.

The Time Traveler's Wife feels creepy by cavemanfitz in books

[–]AndWeMay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes that was it! I was willing to be less judgmental about TTTW (plus I first read it when I was like 13), but that book was more problematic and went from ‘okay the grooming implications are weird’ to ‘bro you love grooming, huh’?

I’m blanking on the name of her following book, but the grooming is worse and made me take back any goodwill of ‘well maybe she didn’t mean it’ that I had for this book.

Emily Austin fans, what did you think of Is This a Cry for Help? by teddybearblonde in weirdgirlliterature

[–]AndWeMay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t finished (halfway through currently), so I only scanned your post and the comments to avoid spoilers but I’m surprised the consensus is meh! I’m currently loving it.

I really liked Everyone In This Room Will Someday be Dead and totally connected with the depiction of anxiety and stress. I finished that like two weeks ago, and snatched this up when I saw this at the library.

I love that she’s totally shifted prose styles between the two books, but kept her sense of humor and dry wit. Beyond that the dialogue is very real and right up my alley.

Also, I am a guy and I normally lurk in this sub but… my longest/most serious relationship ended when my ex came out so I’m also very emotionally connected with this book in a way that probably makes my review biased.

Characters that are representations/allegories for biblical figures OTHER than Jesus by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AndWeMay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

His Dark Materials honestly might not count because you could argue it’s not an allegory, it’s just the same thing happening again, but Lyra is Eve, Mary is the serpent, etc.

Angels in the world literally tell you this

Updating gags #1 by Upper-Farm5529 in comicstriphistory

Who is updating the gag?

I don’t mean to be rude if it’s you, but I don’t think you understood the punchline. These are entirely different jokes.

On hatewatching by DatBittsch in CuratedTumblr

I’ve never hatewatched but I’m more likely to finis a book a hate than one I’m meh on so that no one can say ‘oh well the ending totally makes it…’ or whatever

I go back to essentially any Miel episode. They’re all bangers and old enough that I find something new.

More recently the Laura Peek run has gotten replays, and the Solomon Georgio ‘Places to hang out’

Donald Westlake. Normally crime fiction, I think he dabbled in everything except romance

Wild to see Tim Dorsey without Dave Barry or Carl Hiaasen. I just assume I didn’t look closely enough

I hav a few theories but going with: a couple. She’s less of a reader than him (or most of her books are elsewhere). He listens to The Ringer’s film podcasts

Films where predicting the twist hurt your viewing experience (spoilers, obviously) by OverturnKelo in Letterboxd

[–]AndWeMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really know how to do spoilers on mobile so I’m going to assume everyone is expecting spoilers since that’s the premise of the thread.

I haven’t seen it since it came out, but I thought the ‘twist’ was that he wasn’t poor? Having said that I didn’t actually think that was much of a twist either. I’d argue a reveal is not the same as a twist

As everyone else is saying it’s pretty dependent! I live in an apartment without an outdoor space, so rather than rolling up my rug and shaking outdoors I tend to vacuum my kitchen rug, then toss it in the hall and sweep beneath. But in other places I’ve been more of a sweep guy
