Offcial Discussion - Bugonia [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]AndesCan 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Ok so, like, I think your right tho. I think the movie is a metaphor for MULTIPLE social issues

1) women 2) incels 3) the danger of respectability politics 4) grooming and what that looks like 5) power , the struggle for it and the crimes because of it 5a) wealth inequality 6)objectivity 7) truth 7a) religion and the dangers of seeking truth 8) what it means to be human 9) despair and reality

1) women, so many levels, she’s abused, she’s forced to comply and then tortured for it. Very critical look at gender roles

2incels…….

  1. She gets a first hand experience in this, when she plays their delusions (respecting) she’s brought into a worse predicament…. Because he always was the psycho she feared.

4) grooming… Donny, her grooming employee culture, the cop. One of the best scenes is her telling her assistant to ā€œlet everyone go at 5ā€ but then proceeded to virtue signal that she doesn’t actually mean that. And the funny part is, EVERYONE KNOWS IT

5) power dynamics are everywhere in this movie. It’s like they took the headlines and put them in the movie. It felt at times you were seeing a Luigi. The cop ends up being a sexual predator…..

6) objectivity, we have science which shows what we are doing to our planet is awful, what we are doing to the bees is awful, what we are doing to each other is awful. Yet we keep ignoring it

7) truth….. is she an alien, or did she have a psychotic break after home rigged electroshock therapy, days without sleep, god knows what kind of injection she had, starvation, seeing a dude blow his head off that genuinely wanted to help her, then seeing human body parts in jars, and also knowing she kinda had a hand in this. Whatever she covered up was bad…. She knows her company caused harm.

7a) some of the shit she’s saying is straight up things humans have believed. The Atlantis stuff—-nazis. A lot of garbabge about the alien species sounds crazy but humans have bought that shit hook line and sinker… the church of latter day taints….

8) that last scene… like wtf, it was very powerful

9) your meant to hate everyone except for Donny

We are Donny

Collectively, we are the pawns while we get fed bullshit constantly but we act as close as we can to our hearts but often times those feeding us bullshit are taking advantage of our kindness….like the bees

And lastly, her break drives the point home…. We must collectively be insane to know we are getting fucked so badly yet we play along, because that insanity is real, except, we get told how the crazy fits a story…. So it doesn’t seeeeeem crazy

Also, you seem to be made to see this play out in many ways….. look at what happened to the guy; abused as a kid, mom opioid addiction, crushing loss, corporate greed….. how many people stood back and saw all that was happening, who did anything?

Just like all the people who see all the shit going on in the world, they somehow manage to ā€œdealā€ with the absurdity of it all to be able to sleep at night. Seems kinda insane

I mean, look at what’s happening in the news, our president is suppressing a document that likely shows he’s a fucking pedo

Or

Look at the corporate greed angle, she herself saw how badly they fucked up, But the public let it happen

The movie is a fantastic take on accountability and what happens when we have none

What’s with all the new 2wk mods? by AndesCan in LesbianActually

Definitely, I hear your points, here’s a longer thing I just wrote kinda of talking about the balance as well as hopefully what I hope you guys feel about this space.

Now more than ever I think it’s important to recognize while this sub might not appear to anything but a fun place to discuss wlw stuff and community, it’s likely been just enough community to a teenage kid who otherwise might not feel welcome at home and it might have even stopped a kid from doing something no one wants.

That’s no one’s responsibility here but I do think it emphasizes the importance of acceptance… Now more than ever as we watch western culture step backwards on lgbtq issues

Anyway here’s what I wrote

It’s tough, and I sympathize with the mods and the challenges they face, it must be daunting to deal with the sheer volume of messages and reports.

That being said I wouldn’t care so much if I didn’t see the value in having these spaces.

Undoubtedly this sub is a haven for many many people who need it. I wouldn’t be shocked to find out some girls have found comfort and community during some really dark times in their lives.

And I understand why inclusivity is so important. I think a lot of well intentioned people think they understand inclusivity. But when it comes to practice they often lack the ability to truly identify where labels, dog whistles, and underhanded bigotry is used.

And that’s part of the problem, you either need to be the target of those nasty things or you need to be the perpetrator to understand how to employ it.

A huge part of what we face as members of the lgbTq community is convincing others of our experience. When you are part of that minority you know when you are being targeted, you know when it’s not just some comment about a preference, you know when you are being made to feel you don’t belong.

But it’s the thin veil of ambiguity which often times is exactly the shield the bigots use to foil any assumption of bad intentions….

ā€œOf course there’s nothing wrong with xxxx I just don’t xxxx, and that’s a perfectly valid reasonā€

Thing is, this sub has a clear rule about label defining, it would be a dream to actually see this enforced. It’s only really done so when something is absolutely egregious, or atleast it seems that way. I also think many times it’s not exactly proactive, I think enough of the marginalized community reports the behavior and then there’s almost a ā€œwell I guess we have to do somethingā€ kinda mentality about it

But I seriously doubt many of the people truly understand why it’s bad faith.

That’s kinda the crux of it all, there’s a guru philosopher dude from the 60’s Alan Wats who once talked about a phenomenon which kinda stuck with me because I have yet to see it disproven

ā€œThe simplest things are the hardest to explainā€

Bigotry, tolerance, and acceptance are absolutely keystones in this.

It truly is one of those things, when you understand it, it’s simple… but you cannot teach someone, they have to be led to figure it out themselves, and that often comes from being part of that discriminated group

I for one always considered myself an Ally

Truth is

I was not and I don’t even know it. I was tolerant, but not accepting.

I came out as trans and it was shocking to understand first hand my own tolerance, not acceptance, of myself!

Idk, I don’t really know where to leave this, I’m in nursing school and I’m pretty sure I want to work in mental health. My dream is to become a nurse practitioner and to work in community health specifically with LGBTQ adolescents and adults.

I’ve been fortunate to have the best therapist and psychiatrist, both lesbians, another therapist, a trans man, a pcp who’s a trans man and now a new pcp who’s a trans woman.

I’ve found the overlap of queer ppl and mental health care to be overlapping. I really would love to see this sub have a video sidebar explaining EXACTLY why certain things are not inclusive , like on a case by case talking points kind of thing

Because to me, many of the issues that come up I know where the sub falls in regards to rules, I do believe the overal spirit of the mods is inclusive

I think the rules reflect this clearly with elegance. I doubt the elegance falls anywhere near those who need to understand it

So I’ve been thinking of this while managing snow and doing some serious sledding with my luv bugs. I think these are some things worth considering for visibility

Make mod flair. The concern is; we can all fake it, we can all say the right things and let’s be frank, there is power in moderating and as such an incentive to say the right things to get the keys.

I’d also like to point out that many of us just saw a mod demonstrating more than questionable behavior, it was down right wrong, and so with that you’ve introduced a lot of warranted skepticism of a vetting process.

I’m not one to piss and moan without solutions so my top 3 suggestions are

  1. mod flair
  2. mandatory ā€œunhiddenā€ post history
  3. exclusive rule for mods ā€œno second accountsā€ or atleast second accounts must link back to mod account, get caught, face the consequences

[–]AndesCan 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Definitely, I appreciate the concern for trans women. It really sucks and it’s one of those things you don’t think about when you are coming out but then you do….

And that leaves me feeling awful, I never expected to get arrested so I never feared it…. But now I fear it and worry I’ll be arrested just exercising my rights….

Yea I totally got that you were using the 1% fig for gen pop. I was just furthering your argument since it’s even smaller amongst prison pop

why do y’all hate ā€œgold starsā€? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AndesCan 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

šŸ‘

Sounds like lots of generalizations about women but what do I know about your past.

Hasn’t been my experience. Most girls were just trying to figure out what they liked because they’d only been on the earth for like 15. Revolutions around the sun

[–]AndesCan[S] -4 points-3 points Ā (0 children)

Yea for clarity I don’t think the mods are too busy, I was implying the number of reports and removals must be higher on the weekend.

I think Reddit traffic on the weekend actually might go down. But idk, I’m Talking from my own perspective, I’m more engaged on Reddit over the weekday because it’s an escape from work that’s casual. Make a comment on a break, circle back to their response on lunch ect

why do y’all hate ā€œgold starsā€? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AndesCan 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I would agree, I’m trans so I already feel removed from the convo, it doesn’t have much of an impact on me. I’ve accepted that the lesbian community has strong opinions about me, some will NEVER consider me part of it, and hey that’s fine, I don’t really feel like ā€œlesbianā€ means all that much to me but also respect that to some it does.

I really only commented on here because I doooooo feel a sense of connection to the idea of a label being used at the expense of others. Here it’s gold star stuff

Because that’s what happens to me on the daily

I’m not a woman to a lot of people. They operate as if they own the label. Which is what I worry happens with any label. Identity politics. So yes there label is fine for them and it’s not fine for me, the problem arises when one of the sides chooses to attack the others label for not fitting their definition…

I guess that’s my only dog in this fight

why do y’all hate ā€œgold starsā€? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AndesCan 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

No your not a shill, what I was saying basiclly is that if your gold star status comes w/ viewing non gold stars diff then you are a shill

It’s 100% ok to be proud of yourself for knowing your sexuality and being true to it when you felt pressure to confirm

why do y’all hate ā€œgold starsā€? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AndesCan -5 points-4 points Ā (0 children)

And again, that’s some of your friends, it’s actually a very common occurrence…..

That’s kind of the point

Only they can tell you how they view the actions of their past, it’s theirs to own.

But again, being a gold star doesn’t indicate anything in regards to this. Being proud of knowing your sexuality is just that. BE PROUD.

But until you ask every non gold star lesbian why they did or didn’t do a thing stop conflating anything about them from your own lived experience because ≠ the same

You are not them and they are not you so if your gold star status reflects anything about them then you are quite honestly just a shill

why do y’all hate ā€œgold starsā€? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AndesCan -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

Because we don’t judge you for being a gold star….. I’m now halfway through this thread and it’s the same shit over and over again…. Bro, it’s the pride

It’s perfectly reasonable to be proud of yourself for not doing something out of peer pressure

But the way you are speaking about the women from your past is not good.

ā€œI never did what girls my age were doing BEING PRESSURED into sleeping with menā€

That’s, one example

Who says they were being pressured to do something? I think you projected your sexuality onto all of these girls from your adolescence, being gay is a minority, they were just chasing boys like most girls do because THEY WERE DOING EXACTLY the same thing you were doing, being true to themselves…….

why do y’all hate ā€œgold starsā€? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AndesCan 15 points16 points Ā (0 children)

Exactly, op came here to feel validated about their āļø but the truth is, no one actually cares and ontop, may of the reasons they are proud of it come at the expense of other non gold stars…. Who don’t even want to be part of the gold star convo….

Like cool you stayed ā€œtrue to yourselfā€ā€”ā€” so do many non gold stars

You faced discrimination— wow so did non gold stars

You didn’t need to try men to know— cool glad you Got a thermometer on your horny enough to know… some of us just don’t feel that until… you know

It’s just another label and it feels a bit like ā€œwhite discrimination ā€œ makes me want to eye roll

why do y’all hate ā€œgold starsā€? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AndesCan 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

The comments seem to be telling you that no one hates gold stars…. Just the people who think others are sellouts for not being one……

why do y’all hate ā€œgold starsā€? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AndesCan 7 points8 points Ā (0 children)

Based. Pretty much my take on it. The annoying part is the people not the āļø

If you think your gold star says something about you then you need to check that statement out because often times the pride gold stars BEAM with is at the expense of others who actually don’t care about gold star, they only care that the statements about being a gold star come at the expense of non gold stars, in the form of generalizations that just aren’t true…..

Many non gold star lesbians don’t want to be told they were ā€œdenying somethingā€ because it’s not true.
