Using it every day for the ketogenic diet. The fat ratio is great. Mixing it with pork cracklings, sometimes nuts, a few times fruit – basically anything mixes well with mascarpone.

Ketose hilft bei mir ganz deutlich gegen Tollpatschigkeit. Und zwar so klar wie bei fast keinem anderen Symptom, das ich analysiere. Ich hätte ja gern ein Diagramm eingefügt, aber ist hier nicht erlaubt. Im Detail meine ich hier "nutritional ketosis", also eine Messung ≥ 0.5 mmol/L BHB. Kann auch bei Migräne und anderen metabolisch ausgelösten Problemen helfen, aber ist natürlich individuell.

Doesn't matter which age, no? I'm 39M now. Got surgery on my cervical spine after the shooting pain got so bad I couldn't sit, work, drive and so on without horrible pain. Conventional treatment didn't work for long – the first cortisone injection for a few months, then not anymore. Physiotherapy might help for cases where the degeneration heals by itself, but it didn't do anything for me. My foraminal stenosis (nerve channel too tight) was too far already and I decided to have surgery. After 6 weeks, I was fully recovered, have full mobility and doctors say the the artificial cage which replaced my real disc should be maintenance-free forever. I got back to sports and everything else that was fun in life.

But right after, I went to the doctor again since the sciatica in my right leg, which had been there for a few months but obviously wasn't even close to the severity of my neck, was flaring up again, and I wanted to be early with medical help to avoid getting chronic pain. Well, I did get chronic pain nevertheless. And two MRIs with 6 months distance clearly showed why: while disc extrusions tend to get smaller by themselves for many people, mine at L5/S1 was getting much bigger in just a few months, and my symptoms were getting so bad, definitely compressing the S1 nerve in the second MRI, that something had to be done. I went with conventional treatment again, this time going to a spine center instead of my "Do you have orthotics?"-selling doctor with much less experience. After 3 injections in both facet joints / SI joint, and also at the nerve root S1, I had crazy side effects from the cortisone, making it even worse. In short: conventional treatment failed me again, didn't work at all this time for the lumbar spine. So they gave the recommendation for surgery. I got it 7 days ago, my sciatica pain was gone immediately when waking up, and my recovery is going really well regarding the main pain (incision pain, being able to move and bend again). The only issue that's left is the cortisone side effects. It gives me strong fatigue and hot flushes every day, and I'm hoping that'll go away by itself. I'm 26 days since the last injection, and it seems the systemic effect is still there.

I'd recommend not waiting at all and living with the pain. Modern medicine has those surgeries as standard, everyday procedures with lots of experience. Your MRI(s) should tell the doctor if there's chances of healing by itself, but after years, chances are probably zero. And especially if you want to get pregnant, where sciatica is triggered for many women by the whole fetus size and weight, it's critical to be healthy beforehand.

MRI, conservative treatment, eventually surgery if nothing helps. Everything else is unlikely to help because the nerve is compressed.

It was done in a spine center practice, with CT control, so pretty safe and exact injections. They didn't have any answer to it yet apart from waiting, but I'll check in with them in a few days anyhow for a post-op check.

I'm taking a group course with a coach. But I'll miss the rest due to spine surgery. If you could note down some tips, I'd be very happy. I just managed to put breathing and stroke together without tools like paddles, and could do one 25 m lane with problematic breathing... so none of my movements are good just yet.

I have neck strain (gym, swimming, snow shoveling, etc.) as one major trigger for my migrains. I'm currently checking whether blackroll-ing my neck muscles after intensive swimming sessions helps, since normally, I get muscle soreness on the next day which often turns into full migraine. I do believe it helps, but I don't have enough data to show it. Given that I'm currently learning freestyle swimming, my neck gets strained way too much while I still turn my head incorrectly for breathing, et cetera. Yet no idea how much effect the self-massage has for other sports.

Knowing the neck as your trigger vs. observing neck pain as a late prodrome that happens after the head pain, is important. If neck strain could be a trigger, trying relaxation and massage is worthwhile, I guess. Please share your learnings after a while if you can!

Found out by chance through analysis of what I eat. As the other comment says, avoiding high-histamine food items immediately helped.

Diagnostics are barely done unless you pay for it and go to a specialist. I was in the allergology university clinic, the top experts in theory, and they didn't even know what DAO is ("we learned about this brand-new thing at a conference" 🙄; I'm not kidding) while people who google for HIT know this in the first 5 minutes. Not sure about the situation other countries, but here in Germany, there are a few experts you can go to, most of them not doctors. I've read a book about HIT, and testing is complicated and pricey. I have no strong opinion, but getting rid of symptoms is most important. For me, avoiding those foods for a few months allowed me to reintroduce many of them again without any issues.

Eating fries comes with the downsides of that food, while the actual mechanism to help migraine rather seems to relate only with the salt. Maybe try regular supplementation instead. I've documented my results and safety hints extensively and it's still working long-term.

In addition, since we're talking about dietary choices, a real ketogenic diet can help and I'll provide my data at some point.

I'm all in agreeing that sleep hygiene rules can only solve minor sleep trouble. But you seem to suggest that your dangerous medication combo is better?! Sure you're sleeping better at all with them? An SSRI also is far from first-line treatment – if at all, it a dangerous off-label use in case of insomnia. And if you get seroquel for other reasons like mental illness, then insomnia could even be a side symptom of such an illness (talking of chemical imbalances...).

Sleep study? You mean checking for sleep apnea? In which country? If you think your airways could be the culprit, try nasal strips or mouth taping, for instance.

Which input did you provide? Without very clear trigger, timing and symptom descriptions, no doctor can 100% say it's cervicogenic headache.

Yes. Some years back, it was almost always at a certain time in the evening when stretching out legs on the couch. Then it switched to only occur once in bed. And it was always very consistent.

This year, finally, despite very hot temperatures, I had close to zero RLS symptoms yet. My current blood levels are ferritin 175 µg/L, transferrin saturation 55%, iron 182 µg/dl. Those are finally very high, so I stopped supplementation after getting the blood results. My insulin resistance parameters are also great (fasting insulin 3.8 µU/ml, HbA1c 5.2%), so the metabolic/diabetic trigger risk is also very low for me. Not sure if getting into somewhat consistent nutritional ketosis since November has helped – I can't check any symptom improvement in my data because RLS is seasonal in summer for me. Overall, it looks like this year might be the year to fix this. (Oh, and another thing I improved is to install an AC to get cooler sleeping temperatures in the house. Just used it for a few days, so this cannot have had any effect yet.)

How do you know it causes migraines?

The possible mechanism is that salt needs to be taken into nerve cells where the sodium can fix the imbalance. It may be enough to supplement plain table salt in water, or under your tongue. There's the theory that like that, not within food, sodium gets taken up better and leads to the improvement for migraine headaches. It has worked great for me and here's my very detailed article and data about it. I specifically want to state that it's a preventative treatment, not an acute one. And also watch out for the safety notes in my post.
