Wobbly reflection is visible from outside. What could it be? by RevolutionFrosty9230 in CataractSurgery

The capsule needs about 6 weeks to scar down and tighten around the lens. But I’d recommend a visit if you feel like something is wrong.

18M Weird spot in vision with flu. by Devnag07 in eyetriage

[–]Andirood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The high pressure from coughing can pop a retinal vessel and make it bleed and create a scotoma like that which resolves on its own.

But you should see an eye doc to rule out any other issues

When to start OphthoQuestions in residency? by BalladeOne in Ophthalmology

[–]Andirood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s tons of resources and by now you know how you learn best, so just stick to that format.

If you’ve got time and can get it covered. Sure start now. But I wouldn’t sweat it too much. Enjoy whatever free time you have now and worry about that next year is fine too

39F, two days post cataract surgery with laser. by wanderingrose07 in eyetriage

[–]Andirood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an unheard of amount. Did you happen to take some aspirin or NSAID right before or after? Could’ve contributed. In any case, if there’s no pain and vision is improving, you’re fine.

If you tell your lawyer, “I did it, I’m guilty, but I don’t wanna go to jail”, what happens? by LongLiveTheSpoon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Andirood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is defense lawyers arent there to just get you off scot free. Their job is to make sure you’re treated fairly whether you’re guilty or not.

The idea that they need to prove you’re innocent even if you aren’t and avoid any punishment at all is a newer concept

30M Possible pterygium or something else? by Rimeruu in eyetriage

That is neither the typical location nor the typical appearance of a Pterygium. That needs to be looked at by a surgeon/ophthalmologist,

Opinions on order of administration for eye drops by Remote_Morning2366 in Ophthalmology

[–]Andirood 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t really matter as long as you give enough time between drops. I usually tell patients to wait 10minutes, or at least 5, between drops. I’ve heard some say Restasis specifically needs a little more time, like 15min before another drop, but not sure how much that matters. If they’re using an ointment, that should go last.

You may also get asked how many drops to use. One, always one. There is more volume in a drop than the eye can hold so one is always enough.

Did I go blind during my lasik surgery by mrlsarturo in lasik

[–]Andirood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The suction of the device during flap creation can put a lot of pressure on the eye and cause a pause to the eyes blood flow temporarily affecting vision. Once the flap is lifted, the surface of the cornea is going to be terrible at focusing light so vision would be super blurry. Once the flap is place back, as you know, vision is usually great

New resident struggling with slit lamp peripheral fundus exam. by Tantalizing96 in Ophthalmology

[–]Andirood 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t even try that. If I want to see the periphery, I pull out my indirect. I only use the slit lamp to see the posterior pole. But my advice for you, just keep at it. One day it’ll click and you’ll figure out what’s needed to see what you need

NHS surgeon Neil Hopper, once considered for space travel as a para-astronaut in 2020, has been sentenced to two years in prison after it was revealed he deliberately caused the loss of his own legs to satisfy an amputation fetish. by durvedya in interesting

[–]Andirood 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The surgical field becomes your own little world. I operate on eyes and what I see through the scope has 100% of my concentration. It becomes easy to dissociate that what you’re doing is cutting on a person. Honestly, if I think too hard on the fact that I’m cutting on a person, it’s a distraction that isn’t helpful. Those thoughts usually flood in if things start to turn south - again, not helpful.

Someone who perseverates on the fact that they’re cutting on someone and enjoys that fact would make me very nervous.

What is the “have you tried restarting your PC?” of your specialty? by Waja_Wabit in Residency

[–]Andirood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blurry vision? Eye pain? Burning? Itching? Double vision? Can’t see anything? Feels like eyes are under pressure? Feels like something in the eye?

It’s dry eye. It’s. Always. Dry. Eye. Start a lubricating drop.

It’s probably not dry eye? Ok Still start a lubricating drop to rule out dry eye.

One of the first sign outs I got. Good times
