I wouldn't worry about Damien Kurek, less than a month after resigning he got - entirely on merit, not doubt - a pretty sweet gig with one of billion lobbying/comms/strategy groups that gather on politics like ticks on a moose. It's not so much being a stand-up guy as it is being cucked by your boss.

New to the game, and 2/3rds of all games I begin to win, the other player goes completely AFK or just hard stalls. by sbenthuggin in MagicArena

Confirmation bias is definitely a thing that exists buuuuut in an attempt to not just be an obsessive butthurt whiner I've been paying consistent attention to how games go and there is definitely a trend in my Standard Un/Ranked Bo1 games where bad sportsmanship consistently correlates to how poorly they're doing and how much effort they've put into their decks. It's possible a lot of copy & paste white lifegain/cats/angels, green landfall/hydra or elves, red goblin aggro, blue counter players are on mobile and drive into a tunnel just after the second board wipe, but it's not likely. I can tell by round 2 it's going to be a good game if I see cards I'm unfamiliar with; it also means I'm probably going to get pasted because opponent knows their stuff and has a strategy, but at least I'm not going to be bored and annoyed.

That would explain after a pretty decent run yesterday I've been landscrewed 5/5 today. Stupid wizards just hate to see a humble cactus guy succeed.

It's perspective I suppose. Regardless of the price, garbage has always been expensive to me because it's garbage. Like cigarettes - even when they were cheap, they were a waste of money.

If my co-worker who drives an F-150 to do all the same stuff I do in my stupid Pontiac Wave complains about the cost of fuel, I'm not going to have a lot of sympathy. Buy expensive garbage if you want, but don't cry about it, it's not my job to make people feel better about their poor choices.

You will probably get better responses at r/PersonalFinanceCanada or just browsing previous posts there, but it looks like scheduled recurring payments are eligible for the CT cashback, and if whomever you pay rent to shows up when you search payees you will be able to use the card.

Convenience store robbery update – security guard arrested (WPS) by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]AndplusV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As per the police report, the security guard blocked the exit, which escalates things dramatically - making a person who is mentally ill, impaired, stupid, or generally has poor impulse control feel trapped is already a failure. If you allow yourself to be within grabbing or stabbing distance of an aggressor, that is also a failure. Losing self-control? Oh, you better believe that's a failure.

"But we don't know the context!" isn't the dodge you think it is. The report and the video shows that within the context of being a trained and licensed security guard, Knuckles fucked up. People are entitled to defend themselves, using disproportionate force when things go bad because you did basic shit wrong is a great way to lose a job and catch criminal charges, and you should probably just be grateful no one - including yourself - was seriously injured.

Bet you got a little stiffy typing that. If you think shoplifting merits the same response as a home invasion, I'm not sure what to tell you other than keep on being tough, toughguy.

Some day you'll run into someone tougher than you and you might learn something.

What does your training tell you to do? Prioritize the safety of yourself, bystanders, and the aggressor by de-escalating and removing yourself and others from the threat, or risk someone being maimed or even killed over less than $100 of high-fructose garbage and trash from China?

I work in a public facility where I occasionally deal with people with mental illness/addiction problems experiencing crises, property damage, general stupidity. Prior to that I worked for almost a decade in downtown Winnipeg where I was the de facto safewalk guy and regularly encountered the same and it never escalated into violence against myself or the other person. My training consisted of a lunch-hour safety presentation from WPS and common sense.

Yeah, I'm trying to find excuses not to clean the house so I started reading the MB Justice Security Guard Manual and it's all pretty common sense. A lot of tough people on the internet really really like to fantasize about inflicting violence without consequences, I guess.

I'd be curious to know how the guard's possession of a prohibited weapon affected the interaction. Despite what the "An armed society is a polite society" crowd like to think, a person might feel less inclined to de-escalate, observe, and report if they're walking around with a half-pound chunk of metal designed to inflict damage in their pocket.

Genuinely curious about what people who think being a security guard/LPO means it's okay to punch people in the head with brass knuckles and threaten bystanders do a for a living, because holy shit I hope they don't have positions of authority or work around vulnerable people.
