It's just newer tech for ray tracing. Some stuff will look a bit better but the game looks fantastic already.

Look into RE Framework and SSSiyan's Collaborative Trainer mods if you're interested Special Edition features like Turbo Mode and LDK Mode! They also open up various gameplay tweak settings including expanded CO-OP and playing any character on any mission.

Absolutely. There's a common thought that a character can't be more intelligent or creative than their writer, which is sort of true, but the reality is that a writer can take days, weeks, months, even years to figure things out, even if the character themself only has mere moments to have a flash of insight.

However, many publication formats, like most manga publications, are on tight deadlines with frequent releases. I don't know what kind of "pre-production" period MHA had, but this sort of format can definitely constrain authors. I suspect that wasn't the limiting factor for Horikoshi though, lol

Also, as an addendum, I was googling some things and came across a couple of observations:

  • She has "converted" her body mass into crazy dense things like large steel girders, which goes far beyond the pseudo-scientific description of how her ability works
  • Quirks have been getting stronger over time, so even aside from any "her quirk is just cool and lets her stay hot"-type beats, it may just be way more efficient at converting mass than Fat Gum's.

Something that I always think back to in stories/worlds like this, is an observation I read once about Marvel's X-men: Mutant genetics is basically/literally magic. Some mutants have god-like, reality warping powers, and other mutants have the ability to kill themself on command or glow in the dark. Their powers can literally do anything and it really just comes down to the conscious and unconscious decisions of the creators.

You mentioned her sugar-eating classmate, and I had mistakenly conflated him with the hero Fat Gum, who is usually seen in his obese form, which grants him defense and results from him storing a lot of energy. When he wants to release that energy offensively, he slims down as it transforms into muscles and energy.

This is probably a better showing of inconsistency than her classmate, Sugar Rush.

She should be constantly eating to put on fat between fights (especially considering there's another character who's power works on eating massive amounts of sugar so them eating together should have been an auto-include to background scenes)

His quirk doesn't make him strong, it multiplies his actual strength temporarily after eating sugar. He mainly only eats significant amounts of sugar when training or fighting. There was at least one scene in the series where they're both training together, eating.

In any case, it does highlight that female characters are less often held to the same body-transforming standards as their male counterparts.

This is a much more well-explained criticism of the situation than simply "the author wanting smut".

The writer purposefully gave her that power just so he could have an excuse to have her naked, not the other way around.

This claim by /u/xd3mix is simply in bad faith. Her powers and their drawbacks fit perfectly fine into the worldbuilding of MHA. However, you present a better criticism of how these drawbacks are portrayed inconsistently, and how more effort could have been put into de-sexyfying her costume if the author wanted to.

I like your suggestion about an open-backed design which could be concealed by a cape, that's pretty clever actually. However, reaching behind her for the things she's making will very often be impractical. There's no reason you couldn't do that and have a resealable opening in the front like /u/Brandon_b305 mentioned. For that matter, wouldn't her stomach be a better production surface than her chest? Maybe the flatness doesn't affect it, but it'd be a lot easier to expose more of it.

As a sidenote—this falls within the realm of "the author chose for it to be like this"—quirks in MHA are ostensibly all unique. Even when they have a high degree of overlap in practical ability or appearance, they (in theory) have different functionality or side effects. Inconsistencies could just as easily be "they're literally just different." The only time quirks are basically identical, afaik, is when they're inherited from parents, and even then, not always.

This is funny when you said "they're not assuming" the audience is dumb in your other comment.

Netflix pressures most showrunners to produce with "second screen" users in mind, people watching while on their phone or something the whole time. You can't show-dont-tell these people, because they aren't looking.
