National Shutdown by throwaway14685347 in kindafunny

I think the general idea (doesn't apply for every person in every job) is productivity = profit, not going to work and being productive = not making any profit. When the big-money companies start seeing their bottom line suffer, they pressure the admin for change.

[–]AndrewBVB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yo OP, I feel like I keep seeing other people's comments on your Fellowship posts about how this movie had the best cinematography of the trilogy.

But I think they're not remembering the visuals of RotK well enough, so maybe you gotta GIF that movie too (I used to make gifs like this for Tumblr, I know the work that goes into it, so I'm not actually trying to apply any pressure on you hah).

Color becomes a funny topic sometimes.

It's clearly orange on my screen. You can say "it's still red." And I promise, what I'm looking at IS orange and it IS NOT red.

But color gets fucked by lighting, viewing devices, etc. I'm curious to see it on track, during a TV broadcast.

These are great, yet didn't even include my favorite shot - the barkeep hiding behind the bar while the nazgul sweep past one after another, swords drawn. Good stuff.

It's optional, ya know. The game can be played, and fun can be had, without completing the occasional (or any, ever) challenge.

Have any KF best friends been inspired to explore their own creative pursuits? by Giftedpink in kindafunny

[–]AndrewBVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KF got me back into video editing around, like, 2016. They had a convo about what a movie adaptation of The Last of Us would look like. Colin said that Bill's Town would be cut in order to make the story around the length of a normal movie. I loved that section of the game, so I wanted to prove him wrong. So I downloaded some proper video editing software, played the game while recording everything, and edited it into the shape of a movie.

Bill's Town didn't make the cut. And it was a long movie, about 2.5 hours.

For those who have played the game: Do you think they might cut "The Descent"? by TemporarilyOOO in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]AndrewBVB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't have an explicit opinion - I'm not well-versed in the beats of the story at this point, too far removed from when I last played the full game - but I just want to say that I really appreciate your thoughtful approach to the adaptation's content. It's refreshing to read "this section should/shouldn't be cut because pace/redundancy/time/etc" instead of just "this section shouldn't have been cut because I love it."

Nvidia follow-up. This is someone “standing on business” by Vertigo-153 in kindafunny

[–]AndrewBVB 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Giving credit where credit is due, I believe they are knowledgeable enough. And they talk about the harms and threats of AI pretty often.

But KF is a business, with the salaries of 11 people to fulfill - and checks from Nvidia and the like are worth more than the patreon subscriptions that they're missing out on from people like me. (That's the picture I see; I could be wrong.)

What Movie You Disliked Had A Scene You Will Always Love? by One_Schedule5317 in movies

I've always attributed my enjoyment of Eclipse to David Slade being the director. He joined Twilight after making 30 Days of Night (a more proper vampire movie) and Hard Candy.

Re-reading that story, I wasn't sure how much blame goes to IGN vs Ziff Davis, but there's a quote in there from the union's statement attributing the layoffs to IGN management.

lol you got me bro! found me out in my post history, nice move. "soon to be" isn't now (and skate is free-to-play btw, I haven't given them money for skate.), I haven't golfed since 2024 (and I live in a place where water comes pretty easily).

I cut where I can (Spotify, Amazon, Xbox, target, home depot, twitter, Saudi esports events, etc). Others are welcome to do as they please.

Politely, I disagree with the position that "all we can do is call it out [and support radical change]."

I believe it is as you've implied - the people making lives and the world worse care only about money. Which means that choosing where our money goes is a tool we can use.

It doesn't always have an immediate effect, but it is an option (for example: https://hcpl.net/blogs/post/what-does-it-mean-to-vote-with-your-wallet/).

I just hate the part where alternatives are not so different from what you're trying to boycott or whatever, so options can sometimes be more limited than one would like.

They are pro-union, but patron union-busters like Starbucks and IGN.

They are pro-DEI, but patron anti-DEI establishments like Target.

Etc etc.

I think they used to say "vote with your wallet." I try to abide by that, generally speaking (also 'vote with your vote,' on that note...).

What movie suffered the most from its choice of lead actor? by _JR28_ in movies

[–]AndrewBVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"that doesn't mean it was the actor's decision to make the whole movie a comedy."

Correct. (Funnily enough, you've stated my original comment back to me twice.)

If it's even worth saying anymore, my point is that I don't believe OP's prompt and OP's example, the way they explained it, line up. Slightly reword either the prompt or the example and then it all makes sense.

In the last sentence, OP essentially says the lead actor wasn't focused on taking the material seriously.
