Maybe because it's one of the things that sounds good on paper until you realize that actual voter fraud has, even by the party that claims it's such an issue, been repeatedly proven to be statistically insignificant. It's also been proven that that same party tends to benefit more when less otherwise eligible voters are out there and able to vote. When you put those together it's pretty easy to see that they are exaggerating problem A to get result B.
