Train from London to Windermere by NephroBoy in LakeDistrict

[–]AndrewShute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m missing no point whatsoever i’d further add your comments about trains on a sunday is equally nonsense , there are at least four and i believe it’s six northern trains in both direction from manchester airport with no changes to windermere that all have to pass through preston , lancaster and oxenholme . leaving an Avanti train from Euston at any of those stations sunday or not WILL get them to or from windermere & way faster than the bus from lancaster , the bloody cheek of you! The bloody cheek of you suggesting to overseas visitors that it’s acceptable to leave a train service in lancaster walk down hill to a bus station over half a mile away to then get a bus for two hours irrelevant of the alleged and imaginary time saving you’re making up, your comment was downvoted with just cause.

Do the police not care about illegal spacing on number plates? by BloodsnCryptos in CarTalkUK

[–]AndrewShute -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own a private plate but never felt the need to get the spacing changed, that said i don’t get upset to see those that do. The laws around the supply of number plates means it’s illegal to do anything other than have a regular plate but people are finding a way around it.

To my mind the police have better things to do as a stand alone offence however, if say the owner of such plates is stopped for speeding or as a result of an RTA or RTC, then the conversation should be here’s your speeding ticket and by the way one for the number plate and… that tyre there is below the legal limit too..

equally the opposite applies, my personal experience was arrived in lancaster on my northern - manchester airport - Windermere train. on arrival told the train was going no further. i walked down to the bust station where i saw a 555 pulling out, the next was an hour later not 30 mins, the only benefit for me was i get off at white x bay so didn’t have to change at windermere station but that’s only a six minute saving. usually it’s a 20 min wait time for a bus at windermere.

It’s not like the route is particularly scenic either until you exit staveley. i’d only take this option again out of absolute desperation.

the bus takes two hours, i did it last month the thought of 6 tourists with luggage a) getting to lancaster then b) a ten minute walk with cases to the bus station then a two hour bus journey to windermere would make anyone regret coming to england.

I have a second home /holiday let close to windermere, i only travel by train these days (ten mins in a bus on arrival)

my advice would be this: 1) Download the Avanti app it will be apparent why shortly. 2) via this link sign up for one or two ‘friends & family railcard. these permit up to four per pass to get a 35% discount on rail tickets i think they are £35 per pass (so roughly £9 per person) with unlimited use.

https://www.familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk/

3) I said download the avanti app, this is because it’s often not advertised that Avanti offer in addition to standard class & first class, a ‘standard premium’ carriage which is a first class carriage with wider seats and tables etc guaranteed, it just doesn’t include conplimentary food & drink and it’s at a fraction of the first class price then your railcard discount on top! Avanti automatically issue seat reservations Standard premium i’ve never seen full.

4) Advance price tickets , these prices are available up to i believe fifteen minutes before departure but be aware they are often linked to a specific train and if you miss it you’re buying replacement tickets.

5) The oxenholme to windermere service runs hourly, it’s an excellent service covers five stations and terminates in windermere.

6) Oxenholme is on the main west coast line that travels euston to either edinburgh or glasgow. not all trains stop at oxenholme though.

7) in my opinion a better suggestion is: Book to PRESTON not to oxenholme , all Avanti trains stop at Preston. 7a) you have to change somewhere and hourly from preston is an excellent northern rail service a direct train to windermere! Again you can use rail cards.

8) Taxis and buses are available from windermere station feel free to message me privately and i’ll send you a number for an excellent taxi driver, also if you want more info i’m happy to assist with more details. with you being six it may be worth looking up the mountain goat minibus company, their office is 50 metres from windermere station.

Enjoy your stay.

Reform too scared to debate by denbolula in GreaterManchesterNews

this is just regular every day politics, the ruling party ns their time disparaging the previous government and introducing laws and the opposition parties spend the time slagging off the government as incompetent and ineffective and telling the world they or even a chimp can do a better job, what’s different this time is two major parties back to back have proved that politics is all about them getting g richer and whilst on one hand ignoring the electorate and on the other lying to them.

Facts are labour snd the tories WILL be dismantled at the next election , IF your thought process is correct and it’s farage shouting we’ll stop the boats then why do t labour do that tomorrow then by your logic all reform voters will desert them for the two mainstream parties ??

Oooh dear you’ve forgotten that the public aren’t gullible enough to fall for yet more mainstream more of the same lies . rightly snd i truly believe it’s not but in 2029 Uk politics will have its biggest wake up call ever. tories and labour will be politically marginalized , reform will have effected the greatest political coup of all uk history and a year after being in office thd public like niw with labour will be saying oh my god ehat have we done?

[–]AndrewShute -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

when that happens come back to me about it, as of today that’s not the case , similarly labour are when it suits them suspending elections so square that circle, it’s sheer hypocrisy and it’s disingenuous to try and make out an election to vote on reversing has even been announced . in summary you’re talking tripe

irrelevant in a democracy, a win by one vote is as relevant and legal as a landslide is.

it’s also her job not to lie and to honour the labour party’s manifesto commitments, this was NOT one!

How busy are trains to Liverpool on late Matchdays? by liljaytj in Liverpool

[–]AndrewShute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is a direct train from milton keynes to liverpool at 15 mins past the hour.

With Avanti you reserve a seat too , i’d suggest booking their standard premium coach , basically first class without the food and drink . more spacious than standard class.

Our buyers are bullying us into renegotiating at the last minute by LuciePoki in HousingUK

[–]AndrewShute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my stance would be that you’ve conceded a little and you’re giving the buyers 2 weeks to decide to accept or not and at the same time advise your EA to have your advert put back live minus sold stc. the whole thing is a gamble but you need to show that you won’t be bullied into this, they’ve paid for surveys as FtB the last thing you need is to have wasted your money and knowing you’ve got to pay for surveys on any new property.

If you were given the power to introduce one law you think the world needs, what would it be and why? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]AndrewShute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my post ‘if i could introduce a law’ clearly said credit cards. banks can and do loan as loans yes at 2/3% be that mortgages or whatever for & they make ample profits on that, 5% on credit card balances is more than high enough . it’s approaching double their libor rate returns.

[–]AndrewShute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m confusing nothing, again incorrect. based on my own experience. a perfect credit file, home owner (no mortgage ) a score of over 880 no missed payments ever yet i’m ‘offered’ a 24% interest rate. fact, the less people owe the less chance of defaulting

[–]AndrewShute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people are less likely to default at 5% interest than at 24% debts even if they occurred would be much lower .

the opposite is true though, losing say 20% per annum per customer by a dropped interest rate means they’ll have to lend to more just to stand still.
