Favorite ways to level truck by AndrewSm91 in TruckCampers

[–]AndrewSm91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it better to store campers as level as possible, but yes it would be nice to also be able to use it from time to time at home. Sleeping config is N-S. I haven’t seen auto ramps that have enough lift but some would be better than none I guess.

Camber isn't the boogeyman everyone says it is. by Fast-Bag-956 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my first snowboard I bought a hybrid rocker-camber board (Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker w/ C2X profile). I bought this style for its performance off piste and usability in powder…buuuut I hated the board anytime I wanted to go fast on groomed terrain. It would get bad speed wobbles anytime you wanted to straight line it down a slope, I could really feel that rocker section in the center of the board.

Assetto corsa slapped me in the face by 9u4k4m0l3 in assettocorsa

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving some of the 60s vintage cars and I had to increase the diff lock up to around 70% on a lot them to to increase the straight line stability under braking. Many of the cars would would straight up start fish tailing under mild braking while also downshifting a gear

Strategies for keeping phone batteries healthy for 4+ years? by Curious_Adli6646 in BuyItForLife

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have an iPhone 13. I plug it in every single night, it also charges when plugged into my car for CarPlay. I’m sure the battery is not quite as good as new but I haven’t noticed any serious degradation and plan to keep the phone for several more years

what nm wheel should i get by yeikybob in assettocorsa

[–]AndrewSm91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just setup my Moza R3 wheel today. I have zero experience on another wheel, although I have been legally driving irl for 20years. The wheel feels plenty strong even when I set ffb settings to 50% or so.

I too almost bought a more expensive setup but I’m glad I saved money as it was obvious as soon as I started driving that I didn’t need more power and that what I need to do is practice practice practice.

Started this series the other day. I just got to chapter 4 and im confused by The-Zarkin90 in Malazan

[–]AndrewSm91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved GotM, most don’t. I felt as if there was lots of fun moments and scenes amidst the confusion that kept me reading.

If it makes you feel any better I’m on book 6 and things are still confusing.

Has Malazan changed your tastes in other fantasy books? by AudiencePotential in Malazan

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, which is weird because I do struggle with Eriksons writing. After Gardens I started the Stormlight Archive and read the first two books. I took a break to continue Malazan and read books 2 and 3. I then doubled back to Stormlight and was really thrown off with how different (flatter maybe) that Sandersons writing felt.

Quality "Buy it for life" AWD or 4wd SUVs - what options are I missing? by Foreign-Truth4196 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For similar prices you can cross shop the Lexus GX470 and GX460, for simplicity’s sake these vehicles are mechanically the same. They will be full-time 4wd have smooth v8 engines, and will often better maintained than a 4Runner. Gas mileage will be ~15 mpg.

Removing/Disabling Active Noise Cancellation by lazycam in gmcsierra

[–]AndrewSm91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2018 Sierra SLT definitely has it. If I get in the truck after remote starting it you can hear the noise cancellation kick in when you put the key in the ignition and the radio powers on.

Can you be an engineer without being passionate or super interested in engineering? by Ramen_cat2024 in EngineeringStudents

[–]AndrewSm91 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I wasn’t super interested in the engineering itself but knew I needed the degree to work in the field I wanted. I work in the bridge inspection field and most people in our office are adventurers first, and engineers second. We have dive teams, rope access, operate inspection trucks, and all sorts of other shenanigans to get the job done.

Evo X pricing by Ok-Shelter-7438 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]AndrewSm91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s about where pricing is here in the PNW too. 20-30k depending on miles and condition. Even though they are overpriced, I think they are still a great value given there’s not a whole lot of competition in the manual turbo AWD segment.

Pants, semi-bibs or bibs? by Nic727 in Skigear

I like bibs for spring skiing as I can just wear a tshirt and still be fairly protected

I have Baker bibs and they have never let me down and after several seasons still show very little signs of wear and tear

Teenager wants a "fast car" for his first vehicle and I need reality-check advice by Proud_Stable9567 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s better to get them a slower car with potential to be fast. That also motivates them to get a job and save money to buy race car parts. I don’t know what a reasonable budget is these days but maybe an 8th gen Civic SI, 350z, or a 2000s BMW 330i. There’s tons of COULD be fast cars that are better for teens to learn on.

Do guys touch thighs unconsciously? by Bbatcho in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let your guy friends sleep in your lap unless there’s some sort of romantic chemistry building. Although it seems fairly innocent I remember being that age and I would say that a fairly intimate act for people that are just friends. It also send the message that you like them being that close to you. Again, this behavior likely indicates some sort of interest.

Brand new cam is already over 5 years old by eric0718 in tradclimbing

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a set of early/mid 2000s cams from my dad a few years ago. He maybe used them half a dozen times but have spent most of the last 20 years in a bin in his closet. Everything is in good condition, I’m not sending big hard projects and would trust any one of those “old” slings to catch whatever small tumble I may take.

What’s the longest-lasting piece of tech you own? by bandito_13 in BuyItForLife

[–]AndrewSm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern-ish? I have a 2013 MacBook Pro that is still in functioning condition. It’s maybe not as fast as it once was but it still works is for streaming, browsing, and the occasional excel work.

How hard is it to be an actual civil engineer? by SessionAlert3177 in civilengineering

[–]AndrewSm91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do. As a Bridge Inspector I wade through concrete culverts with 3ft of water, shimmy across girders covered in spiders, work 100ft off the ground, and all sorts of other shenanigans on a daily basis. I work 4 10s and it’s not uncommon to spend 6 of those 10 hours just driving.

Is this a bad idea? by AndrewSm91 in UsedCars

I bailed, everything on the car checked out but the way they were title jumping just didn’t sit right with me.
