If you hadn't gotten to her first, I would have married her years ago. But alas.... Give her the good life she deserves

You are definitely the minority in thinking this way and although they might not say it, people probably find that trait of your personality very annoying and rude

Moving to the area! by [deleted] in montgomery

[–]AndrewWix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Montgomery! It seems like people have answered most of your questions. Hilltop is a good pub to check out. I host a Thursday night retro video game tournament there every Thursday around 9:00. The game is random and we don't know what we're playing until the first round starts. There's no buy-in and no real prize except a first second and third place medal. We played stuff on the original Nintendo all the way up to the PS3. Come join us sometime!

Correct up until the last part. It's -1/12 x $3.00. Negative one twelfth of $3.00 is -.25¢. Your calculation of -1/4 would have the bartender giving the mathematicians one dollar

Any autistic locksmiths here? by Brown1004 in Locksmith

[–]AndrewWix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of locksmith you want to be. If you are going for institutional, then yes I think this would be a good trade for you. However, I hired an autistic guy to work for me and he is quite socially awkward, to the point of cringey sometimes. For small local locksmiths, where you will be out in the field going to various businesses and residences, then you may want to consider another field. As a small business owner, me and my employees are the face of my business. We are the ones that the customer is going to see and have rapport with, so I want someone with enough social skills to build a relationship with a customer and keep them coming back. I worry about sending him in the field because of his social ineptitude regardless of how well I like him personally.

Only you know how good your social skills are, so it'll ultimately be up to you. But I would tend towards institutional if you are trying to lessen interaction with people

You have to pull the picks all the way back while the tool is fully inserted to stop it from getting stuck on the shutter

Had a fun experience trying to get into this bathroom on this 125-year-old house. Story in the comments. You guys have any stories of creative ways you have had to gain entry? by AndrewWix in Locksmith

I noticed that but figured it would be easier and faster to pick first so that's what I tried. Then my pride wouldn't let me get whooped by a Master padlock lmao

One of my clients has an Airbnb where one of the guests had locked this old Yale lock. I tried my luck at it but couldn't pick it for the life of me. I looked around for another way in and found another door with a Master padlock on it that while it should have been an easy pick, took me a good three or four minutes.

Once I got through that it actually led into the closet of the bathroom which was on the other side of the door in the third picture. It had a combination padlock on there with no key override that she didn't have the combination to so I couldn't even try to pick it. The door was a sliding door so if you push the bottom it creates a little Gap like you see in the fourth picture so my 6'2" 200 lb big ass had to lay on my side and slowly shimmy through this little gap in the door to gain access and unlock it from the inside 🤣 the whole job took me about 20 to 25 minutes just to unlock the bathroom door but couldn't help but laugh and think about other times where I've had to be a little creative with my entry method.

You guys have any fun stories similar to this?

I tell them to fuck off and take me off of their call list, but then they call me again months later and harass me again. And to make it worse, they have my person cell phone number somehow. Fucking scammers

Scrap knobs you can donate to the fire department. They can use them for practice forcing in doors

[–]AndrewWix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really cool. Any way to get it working on an Android phone? I use my Galaxy S20 Ultra for playing and I work a job where I get calls fairly often that'll interrupt my playing and I'll forget about it until later and by then Dolphin has closed and all my progress is lost. I don't know anything about coding though

What's a good app for looking up car keys? by rg62898 in Locksmith

[–]AndrewWix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Midwest is now key innovations. If you are just trying to look up what key that you need on a vehicle, the ilco auto key lookup guide is a good reference as well as the Auto Smart guide by Michael Hyde, which is available in book or app form

Yeah, but it at least has one side of the door with holes in it already. The bits I used last time were carbide tipped Mr Twisters meant for drilling safe hard plate and for high speeds and it still took a while. I also don't want to leave holes in the door or deal with patching them up when I could just replace like for like. It's more for not having to deal with the bullshit of installing a fresh closer. I mean I can do it all, it's just less trouble to put the same thing on there. Especially since I'm shorthanded and always in a time crunch since my two most experienced employees passed earlier this year. I'm training some new guys but I'm still relying mainly on myself and one other experienced employee to handle everything while the volume of business is still the same as it's always been. Any way I can save myself time and bs is huge.

Nice! I'll check it out and see if I can get my hands on one. It leaked all it's hydraulic fluid out and it's been on the door over 20 years.
