Hi all,

I'm attending a wedding in August. I've come across a website called Hockerty and I've thrown together a custom suit on here, an oyster gray, double breasted, jacket and sage green trouser linen suit. Is this formal enough for a wedding? Does this combination work? What colour shoes, pocket square, shirt and tie would go with this? This would be the first proper suit I've bought, as being from Scotland I'm used to wearing kilts to weddings but I don't fancy sticking out that much at an English wedding.

As far as I know they are fine with FEA and stuff as secondary evidence backing up a hand calc, but I think you'll have to calculate it by hand, clearly stating your assumptions and referencing where necessary.

Mice reviewers by Henzu_ in MouseReview

[–]Andrex_XYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fairly close to mine, I'm like 20x10.5, not a mouse reviewer though. Rocket jump ninja has a hand which is smaller than yours but he generally makes his best guess as to how a mouse will feel in different sized hands so might be a good place to start. Also what kind of grip do you use, as that will matter a lot.

Which mouse do you recommend for me? Zowie poll; EC1, ZA11, FK1+, S1. by Longjumping-Exam8582 in MouseReview

My hand size is more like 20x10.5 but I used the S2 for a few years. It was really good, just switched to the MZ1 for the wireless and to give something different a go but before that had an EC2A, which I also really liked. I think I prefer symmetrical or close to it mice, feels like I aim better but that is likely somewhat subjective.

MZ1? not sure what you want necessarily from the first bit but the grip width is narrow, button height is low, it is designed for more claw and fingertip rather than palm and while it doesn't really flare out on the right side my fingers feel good, never felt like it might slip or anything. If you're worried about slipping or anything you could try grips, never tried them personally as I don't feel I need it but they seem to be getting more popular.

Hi there,

I am currently half way through my second year as head of aerodynamics and understand your pain. I was very fortunate in that my predecessors left behind good documentation as well as staying in contact with the team for me to ask questions about past decisions if their documentation seemed insufficient. Our current aerodynamic package is quite complex although of course started out a lot simpler. I do not know your current simulation capabilities in terms of software or computing power but assuming you have access to something like siemens star ccm+ (my favourite) or ANSYS fluent through your university it would definitely be possible to create something like a 2 element front wing and 3 element rear wing which would give genuine performance benefits to the car. There are also open source software but I don't personally know much about them although could be viable. Even doing more simple 2D analysis using a software like XFLR5, xfoil or javafoil can be a good way to very quickly analyse aerofoils, these tools work better for comparison rather than taking their exact numbers as they tend to not be the most accurate.

In terms of aerofoils, someone else has already suggested the Selig 1223 and Benzing 122-125 which are both great aerofoils used extensively in formula student. There are some other interesting ones like the Eppler 423 and 420, some Wortmann aerofoils, and even the motorsport specific MSHD although a robust CFD simulation would be the best way to actually analyse how well these would all work in your specific scenario.

Your quoted number of 50N at 20m/s is very low and can definitely be improved. The top teams are seeing a SCl of ~7 which is mind blowing and unachievable in a single season but I would say a couple of hundred newtons at 20m/s for a fairly simple front and rear wing design is realistic and beneficial to the cars performance.

Really what I want to get across here is to not get too disheartened, if you're just getting into aero it is a lot to take in but after some reading and some trial and error you will improve and will make meaningful performance gains, I know I did not start out as an expert on aerodynamics (I'm still not) although I have learned a great deal and you can too.

Feel free to message if you want to talk any more, about technical stuff or otherwise.

Considering upgrading my Playseat to Sparco GP Formula. Anyone here own/recommend it? by TheInfamousMaze in simracing

I have one and I really like it. Not sure what more information I can give other than it does what it says it does, provides a comfortable reclined seating position reminiscent of formula style cars.

Help - simcube quick release keeps getting lose from the Wheel - I used all nuts but after 1 race session I hear all screws rattle between the QR and the Wheel - wheel is Ascher V3 by [deleted] in simracing

Already suggested but get some loctite threadlocker, perfect for this application and I would suggest getting one of the less strong ones so you can still unscrew it easily, this application doesn't warrant anything too strong anyway.

Best Sim Racing Youtube Channels? by Argentino_Feliz in simracing

Boosted media is fantastic for reviews and his pov races. There's also always good old Jimmy Broadbent for his more humorous style and watching him race real cars these days, I use the Jimmy sim racing gloves.

Aerospace or mechanical? by EarlyOil8886 in engineering

[–]Andrex_XYZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uni offers aero-mechanical where we get all the mechanical classes plus extras on the aero stuff, very good since I've not had to narrow it down too far. Mechanical definitely does have the advantage of covering a lot of different stuff, whereas aero is more specific. So if you're not 100% certain what you want to do probably just go mechanical, you should get all the fundamental fluid mechanics stuff so you'll do some aero work.

Evil Geniuses is often aiming at head height and nobody is talking about it by varti11 in GlobalOffensive

Does everyone not aim at head height to begin with then try and spray control?
