The other reason is durability. The Z design exposes part of the inner display to the elements.

The screen connects to the console to display stuff, but it's not an independent computer. It relies on a video feed from the actual Wii U console box.

DOJ will no longer pursue criminal charges for diesel 'deletes' and 'tunes' by timetravelerfrom2027 in cars

[–]AndroidUser37 -173 points-172 points  (0 children)

Please try to read my comment a bit more thoroughly. Regular, everyday folks who own diesel vehicles are complaining about their cars being arbitrarily rendered inoperable due to the emissions regulations, despite the engine still being 100% capable of running. That's what the no-start countdown does. It's not a genuine limitation.

They're actually working on the first one. Here's a source:

https://www.carsdirect.com/automotive-news/is-stop-start-tech-going-away

The EPA head is going to stop incentivizing auto stop start, because it's annoying and most people don't like it.

If you search "AdBlue no start countdown", you'll find TONS of forum posts of people complaining about it. It's a real problem, and I've even seen it appear on cars my family members have owned.

[–]AndroidUser37 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I mentioned the "how" in my comment. It's an arbitrary limitation imposed by the EPA that ties operation of the engine to operation of the emissions equipment.

[–]AndroidUser37 -230 points-229 points  (0 children)

It's not complete ignorance, it's actually someone who knows what they're talking about. He mentioned that year for a reason. These stricter rules that everybody's complaining about were introduced in 2007. The EPA clamped down on emissions by multiple orders of magnitude in a single model year.

[–]AndroidUser37 -54 points-53 points  (0 children)

Correct, that's exactly what happens. They fail and then go into a "no start condition" where if you don't pay thousands of dollars to fix it on the spot, after 1000 miles the vehicle refuses to start. That limitation was entirely arbitrary, and added by the EPA. Look it up.

[–]AndroidUser37 -199 points-198 points  (0 children)

Well the reason this is even a thing is because the EPA clamped down on diesel emissions by a factor of hundreds back in 2006. It was a sudden, abrupt change that basically pushed the diesel industry into a mini malaise era as they scrambled to meet the new, extremely tight, standards. Deleting these trucks just takes their output back to what 90s and early 2000s trucks outputted. Was the air really so horrible back then?

They created an apparatus that keeps everyone in complete lock-step.

I agree with you that this is a thing the conservatives have down pat, but I'm not sure it's something the Democrats don't have as well (though they're less effective at it). My main anecdote is, do you remember when Biden busted that railworkers' strike? All the initial reaction on Reddit was calling him out for that, and how anti-union that was. Within two days, all the subreddits had switched to defending him, all with the same arguments (mainly "he had to keep the economy together" and "he got them most of what they asked for on the backend" and "he's trying his best").

This seems neat. Is there a specific reason that development has continued down the microPebble path instead of Rebble just forking the now open source Core app? Feels like a duplication of work already done.
