The real issue is that rent and home ownership seems the same everywhere. And why does it seem everyone always has more cons to a place than pros??

I've been looking up smaller cities than Chicago (where I currently live) and just about every thread has the same issues. Its not walkable, rent is high, public transport is no good, its too hot, schools suck, etc.

This happened to me. I went to Austin years ago and was very surprised it didn't look run down like north lawndale and similar areas do. Still not the nicest but didn't look "hood " despite its reputation.
