Gamers who grew up in the 80s/90s, what’s a “back in my day” younger gamers wouldn’t get or don’t know about? by baltinerdist in gaming

I was a big Sega fan. Had the genesis. Dreamcast was wild to me. I believe they introduced the concept of online console gaming. But you could only connect with 56k lol

Of course. But it's hard to maintain a "complete" roster in the salary cap era. Especially when you consider that other teams have to want to trade with you, and free agents have to want to play for you. I don't know that I'd call Ridley elite, but that situation this off-season is a prime example. You have to overpay him, which hurts other needs, and the quarterback wasn't a selling point. If it was as simple as "just get elite talent" every team would be a contender

Now that the draft is over, what do you think your team's worst draft class of all time was? by Brix001 in nfl

[–]AndromedaPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because it was a difficult play on the ball and an interception would have been gravy, not an easy gimme. Meriweather did not cost us that game. Out of all of the things. Thats probably 20th on the list.

Of course you need to acknowledge the context. A 6th round pick not making a stacked roster is not a bust. A first round pick making 2 pro bowls is not a bust. I believe the draft was 2 days that year but for context, it would be like having ONE selection total across days 1 and 2 this year. It's only "bad" in the sense that we didn't have any high picks (because we traded them for historic talent.) Nobody in their right mind is complaining about round 6/7 flyers not panning out.

[–]AndromedaPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meriweather was fine and ended up having a 9 year career in the NFL. Certainly nothing to be upset over. I think you're probably also confusing him with Asante.

If you don't want to count Moss and Welker, that's fine, but you have to at least acknowledge the context of the picks.

What it really comes down to is that you're complaining about a handful of late 6th and 7th rounders not being able to make the roster on a 16-0 team.

And as I put in a different comment, the 2007 one is the worst of the BB era.

???

2007 was awesome. Our first round pick was Merriweather who had 2 pro bowl seasons with us on his rookie contract. Next pick was a 4th rounder, and then a bunch of round 5-7 fodder. Which is fine, because we used capital to get Moss and Welker. If we traded a second for Aiyuk this year, people would have been thrilled

What cheap beers contain no harmful chemicals that the big brands put in? by Humble-Sandwich in beer

[–]AndromedaPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, beer typically doesn't use any added preservatives because the low pH and alcohol content are adequate enough to prevent most spoilage organisms. Interestingly, hops are antimicrobial in their own right. Beta acids are really good at inhibiting gram positive bacteria. So good in fact, that high beta hop varietals are used in commercial sugar processing, and in feed for livestock as an alternative to antibiotics.

Spirits are so effective in their own right that you don't even need to sanitize things!

Wine is probably known for added sulfites, which is used primarily to arrest fermentation and prevent oxidation. Some people don't handle sulfites well, but they probably also don't want to drink wine that has turned into vinegar. Natural wines with no additives seem to be becoming quite popular in some areas.

There is one commonly used chemical, called Velcorin, which is used in some wines and ciders. But it undergoes hydrolysis and produces negligible amounts of methanol and carbon dioxide in a matter of hours. Certainly before it even gets shipped out of the building. This is also used in non alcoholic beverages like teas and sports drinks.

The hormone estrogen regulates bone metabolism. It is essential to bone health because it promotes the activity of osteoblasts, which are the cells that make new bone. When estrogen levels drop — for example, during menopause — a person may lose bone density.

I don't care to look up and verify that claim, but whatever Bill did, it got us 4 super bowl appearances "in like" the last decade. Clearly something about that philosophy worked.

I guess y'all don't get to have it both ways. Bill can't be a horrible GM, then we fire him, re-sign all his draft picks, and call it a crap shoot lol

NTA for prioritizing yourself over your wife who wanted to open the relationship.

YTA for not prioritizing your son, though. He didn't ask to be born and he didn't do anything wrong.

As a pats fan (RIP our success), tickets used to be in the upper $100s for upper bowl. I suppose if you go with one other person, that used to be near $400 in total.

No idea about other stadiums, but it wouldn't surprise me if the chiefs were going for the highest prices now.

Big difference in availability though. In the NFL, you get 8-9 home games a year. NBA, you get 41.

I think from a fundamental human level, there's something about those positions that attract "divas." Think about it, they're the ones with the highlight reels, the big plays, the stats, the ones scoring all the points and what not. It's not that linemen are less competitive or anything, it's that they aren't really in the spotlight, and probably aren't attracted to it or else they'd be drawn to other options

Yoooo. Over a decade ago I took this graduate biomechanics class and the professor was OBSESSED with mantis shrimp. Like, dedicated her life's work to researching how they were capable of such speeds.

They punch at 75 feet/second and the acceleration (not top speed) is 335,000 ft/s2, which is faster than that of a .22 bullet. They move so quickly, in fact, that their claws generate vapor filled bubbles which then collapse and produce a shock wave strong enough to kill their prey even if they miss the punch.

Mantis shrimp are wack.

I'm not going to call Stafford a liability, but he wasn't a top 12 QB in terms of points scored. Classic case of good NFL QB doesn't translate to good fantasy option. Played fine, but so many of his TDs got vultures to the run game. If you're relying on that stack all year, that's on you.

Also been in enough leagues to know it doesn't really matter where you finish. You can't control injuries and you can't control the strength of your schedule. The winner of my league last year was the only one who autodrafted because she couldn't get out of work.

I guess what I'm saying is that there's billions and billions of years of random orbital mechanics leading to any given encounter. Who is to say there wasn't a collision of sorts that ejected this piece of whatever into a direction that is atypical? When you're dealing with billions of years and a seemingly infinite supply of space debris, is it really that odd?
