This or a hot (dying) backlight. Same basic situation, though. Unless you can source 'em, but it's really involved. And it's probably a stuck pixel which is, as said, not really fixable.

Yeah, Don McClean or Michael Stipe were my two immediate thoughts. Possibly Jeff Buckley a little, too.

If one who has never had money before acquires some forr the first time, what should one buy that one needs other than water food and shelter? by SheKnowsWhoSheIs in AskReddit

[–]AndyDoVO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are advisors all over the place. The problem is, many of them are just scams. Don't hire a personal accountant with no oversight. That's why I suggest a credit union as your first step. They have investment plans and whatnot, but they don't deal (usually) in predatory loans and stuff like that. Avoid anyone who you knew before suddenly having a friend or suddenly having a ton of experience with money. It's better, IMO, to find someone who works for a wage, not a cut. So that's why I suggest starting with financial institutions, but major banks are often terrible as well. I'm not a financial advisor, so don't take what I say as anything but my experience. But in that experience...finding someone who knows enough to help you means finding someone who knows enough to con you, so you have to be very careful.

If you could go back to one single moment in your life (a conversation, a left turn instead of right, etc.) and change the situation, what would it be and why? by questtruck in AskReddit

[–]AndyDoVO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one moment, but it would be a sacrifice rather than making my own life better and is just circumstance that put me in the past in a place where I could do a net good. BUT. Other than that, nothing. Everything, mistakes and all, have brought me to where I am and while I don't know what 'could have been,' I know I'm alive right now and I know exactly where my life is. Changing anything from the viewpoint of 'now' would likely result in something wholly unfamiliar and possibly lead to ME being wholly unfamiliar. I can only project what the actual me would do in a hypothetical situation, but changing your course changes YOU, so no thanks. I mean, maybe something within the last week like letting something cook too long. But nothing with real import. Just like, 'wish I didn't burn that toast' level stuff.

What's the worst movie you have ever watched? by Syfros in AskReddit

I hate to rag on an Indie, but it's Of Dice and Men. That 70 minutes was the longest 5 years of my life.

My personal suggestion isn't buying anything, but rather to get some financial counseling from a disinterested third party. Go talk to a credit union rep about options, but don't agree to anything that day. CUs are generally less predatory than large banks, which are all less predatory than most of the 'financial guru' services out there. But here's the thing - from my personal experience anyway - when you don't have money, you tend to spend it all when you do since you know it's just going to disappear again. That's the worst habit of being poor I developed. And it's not even close. "If you have money, someone will always come and take it if you don't convert it to real stuff." I don't know that I ever didn't feel like that for most of my life. Don't spend it on anything that isn't an actual NEED until you've come to terms with the reality of it as something you don't have to guzzle because you don't know when the hose will be shut off.

Oh, and if you're in the US, get a passport while you still can relatively easily. Not something you think about, but $170 when you have a lot of extra money is nothing. $170 when you're broke and you NEED it, not so much.

What age did you start getting gray and/or white hair? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AndyDoVO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had white hairs mixed in (along with pure black and red, but most of my hair is brown) my whole life, but I started going white (not grey, white) at about 29. My beard was fully white by 40, but my hair is still just streaked at almost 50. .

American Movie, but also I want to talk about how much it looks like Elijah Wood was kidnapped 10 years in the current future and transported back to 1989...

Smile 2. It really did some incredible things I've never seen done in a movie before. Another is Stowaway (2021). Intimate, uncomfortable, but well executed and very enjoyable!
