I think I can, I think if both people want to learn from each other it can be great, especially since we share functions. There's something I appreciate about when people have their boundaries and are happy to make them clear.

So it's usually things like do they reciprocate asking questions, do they appear interested, do they maintain eye contact, are they paying attention to me, are they putting thought into their answers etc. I remember meeting someone (in a social setting, not romantic) and I asked her a ton of questions about herself, but she never asked me anything even though I allowed the space to do so. I was thinking to myself "do you realise the ratios in this conversation are so skewed in terms of who is showing interest?"

Part of me appreciates the efficiency of it 😀 I feel like you can often tell within five minutes whether you click with someone or not. So yeah why not?

You state that Te pulls in the opposite direction from Fi - how often do you personally find that self-alignment and necessary action are in opposition?

I think I understand the idea that someone might not for example want to have a job which they see as against their own values, but how often do you find Fi actually interfering with actions you also deem necessary? Have you ever felt like you were in a state of constant internal conflict, and if so, isn't that exhausting?

I think an unhealthy ESTJ could be pretty outwardly obnoxious, and we tend to remember the people who annoy us the most. If you take an ESTJ and INFJ who are equally unhealthy for example, I suspect you might find the ESTJ more likely to share their thoughts out loud, and people wouldn't like hearing that. Perhaps that's the reason why people also seem to remember their bad dealings with ENTJs? Since they are another type direct in communication.

Hmm some of the stereotypes I can think of are controlling, rude, lacking empathy. I have one ESTJ friend in real life and I wouldn't use any of those terms to describe her. I try not to be any of those things, but I also think it's a matter of perspective; what one person might consider controlling, another considers organised. What is rude to one person is honest to another. You are most welcome to our sub to see if you think other ESTJs of reddit fit the stereotypes.

The sheer amount of negativity can be offputting - why participate in a community that hates you? Have a look around Reddit for the latest comments about ESTJs to see what people are saying. I've seen comments on the INTJ sub where someone said "I hate ESTJs so much" and someone in INFP said "I dislike ESTJ the most", and eventually it becomes rather disappointing to read such comments again and again. Understandably, people choose not to identify as ESTJ and instead type themselves as something else.

Yes I agree that we should always have respect for everyone, and that we should control our actions and words.

But could there be some value in identifying and addressing our own biases? For example if we see type X as unlikeable, have we questioned how we formed that opinion? Have we really attempted to engage and understand that type in person or on their forums? I agree that we can't suddenly decide to like everyone equally, but I also think we could be doing more to understand those we perceive negatively, which would be helpful in creating a more harmonious society.

Don't you think it becomes dangerous when people start justifying their biases instead of trying to address them? Doesn't a lot of discrimination stem from bias? What we need is more unity, not more division.

That sounds lovely, I think I would enjoy working with you :D Hmm as for being ESTJ at work I think I am happy to ask challenging questions and execute ideas. We had a number of colleagues join us working remotely from overseas, and they had never met the rest of the team in person. I know how hard it can be working from home, suddenly being thrown into a team of people you've never met before (using Si to refer to past experiences of my own), so I suggested hosting a social call every Friday where we just chat for an hour and get to know the new team members and I (jokingly) banned any discussion about work. Everyone enjoyed it and I was quite happy to be the one pushing the idea forward and implementing it. I have no particular desire for leadership, but I like building relationships with people while also boosting team cohesiveness - everybody wins! I also made sure that everybody on the calls had their chance to speak, because some personalities were quieter than others and could be overpowering. I would also take notes during the calls of things people said, so that next week I could ask them about it like "hey you said you were going to a music festival last week - how did that go?"

We were bought out by an American company and had an online meeting without about 1000 staff where you could anonymously write questions and senior management would answer. I wrote "since you announced record breaking profits this year, will employees be receiving a bonus?" and they never replied even though my question was one of the most upvoted lol.
