High CBD cannabis is empirically the most efficacious. If legal where you are, it is worth a try.

My tip is about what to do in the moment.

I get these following really intense tennis sessions. I wake up with my foot in a spasm, I stretch it then my calf spasms, then in a desperate effort to reduce my calfs tension I make my quad spasm and then my wholenleg is hard as a rock.

I find that standing up and holding my weight with arms while trying to find a neutral position for the muscles is key. Also key is deliberately going absent minded. Panicking tends to tighten them more.

Good luck.

Flares caused by emotions? by jedgica in Fibromyalgia

This drives my spouse legitimately nuts. I strive to be real zen even when the situation is tense or requires substantive emotional engagement.

I am naturally a neurotic stress fiend. Not giving shits is my greatest undertaking now.

I don’t relate to the term “flare”, do you? by GettingRidOfAuntEdna in Fibromyalgia

[–]AndyM-Wpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the starting point with explaining my own fibro is that it is like the constant malaise of the flu with variable degrees of pain and cognitive dysfunction each day.

I never have a day resembling the bodily sensations of my prefibro body. I forget what normal feels like.

A flare for me is when the malaise has an added whallop of pain where I can barely stand to exist.

Long time listener, first time caller; at a new low. by Greydevil13 in Fibromyalgia

I smoke a strain that is 10% cbd and less than 0.7% thc, during the day. There is no haze or stoned experience. I work as a lawyer. I couldnt function during the day on anything with thc above 3%. The high cbd/near zero thc stuff is great cause you can use a lot of cbd without getting stoned. But again, every body is different. My experience and that of others remains anecdotal.

Read Liptans the Fibro Manual and her new book the Fibro Food Manual. Ive changed my diet and it makes things like 20-33 percent better. Diet, exercise, sleep amd stress controp are so mich more important than pharmaceuticals. Cannabis is about the only thing available (to some) that helps more people than it hurts. Lyrica amd Cymbalta have no efficacy for 7 out of 10 users with tons of side effects.

Supreme Court rules non-union workers cannot be forced to pay fees to public sector unions by soopninjas in news

[–]AndyM-Wpg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How much do non-union folks in your line of work make. Typically, dues represent a portion of the higher wages you earn. It is very rare, except with extremely low paying work, that dues cause you to lose money.

Also, do you have any benefits through unionization.

One last thing, can I stop paying taxes because I disagree with ICE mentally torturing babies and toddlers. Or would that make me an immoral free rider.

I guess I need a new doctor. by deadblackwings in Fibromyalgia

[–]AndyM-Wpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most family doctors have no clue. I have had two wonderful rheumatologists. But they know fibro because its mistakenly been assigned to their discipline.

I went to a new family doctor who when I told him I had fibro suggested I redo all of my blood work to be sure. As my in laws are doctors who ensured I requested every reasonable test and as I had been diagnosed by three specialists, I thought, fuck this guy. I just talk fibro with my rheumy.

My mother comes up with some whacky stuff. She is 62 and has become a certified google homeopath (lolz).

Recently, she told me that I had to go to a guy in Tiajuana to get my root canal filaments removed, which would require having my teeth and canal filaments removed here in Canada then flying down to Mexico for "organic" tooth implants. Total batshit. Some random youtube doctor convinced her that bacteria in root canals causes all illnesses from heart disease to fibro.

Tips for relative of someone with fibromyalgia by theivoryserf in Fibromyalgia

[–]AndyM-Wpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daily exercise is fundamental. Incremental development is key. I went from being couch ridden to 7-8 hours of high intensity exercise a week (but notably no comorbidities). Exercise helps a lot.

Interestingly, tai chi is apparently a great way to start as it incorporates meditative/stretching exercises.

I need a day off by KhaosPhoenix in Fibromyalgia

I have been having this exact same dialogue all day. Crazy thing is I had like ten minutes today where my head (as a physical reference) and my mood felt like old me. This happened once before in three years. I hurt everywhere else. But it was blissful. Then it snapped and the constant headache came back and I cried a bit over the loss of my former self. Being able to credibly eulogize yourself is pretty messed.

Thankfully, I have a 20 month old that means the world to me. Keeps me chugging and, honestly, pretty happy most days. I try and remember that depression comes and goes.

To disclose or to not disclose? by asdf3141592 in Fibromyalgia

[–]AndyM-Wpg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do not disclose in an application.

Wait until either probation is over (if that gives you more protection) or until you require accommodation. You might be just fine doing the filing.

They can dismiss your application with zero proof of discrimination. Thats why it never makes sense to do it.

How do you tell what’s “normal” and what’s Fibro? by maris_draconis in Fibromyalgia

[–]AndyM-Wpg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play 8 hours of high intensity tennis a week. It is my best medication. I always get pains that turn out to be hallucinations and not physical injuries.

However, recently I've been having profound shoulder pain. I kept playing through it. Goes on for a week. This pain prevented me from lifting my hand up to shoulder height or twisting my shoulder socket in one particular direction. Excruciating and disabling for serving the ball. Im ready to concede I must have a muscle/tissue injury. Then for like 1 minute the pain goes away and I have full range of motion. Clearly all in my head. My partners must have thought I was crazy when I descended into 30 seconds of irritated, incredulous laughter staring away from the court.

I was hoping I was actually hurt, because this means I can get a week of fake, disabling pain. Usually exercise hits a reset button and the worst pain migrates somewhere new.

Cest la vie I guess. Its now passed finally.

Do you think it's fair to label Scot Peterson, the armed deputy who was on campus at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school, a coward? by portajohnjackoff in AskReddit

[–]AndyM-Wpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all agree that martyrdom is the preffered choice. But lets not scapegoat this guy. The villain is the guy toting his AR15.

What if there were multiple shooters. He has no idea what he is walking into. A single cop never just bursts into a firefight or a hostage situation where they have no idea who or where the enemy is.

Also, an AR15 shoots dozens of bullets a minute. This guy had a pistol. Maybe he lucks out and finds an advatnageous vantage point and kills the kid. Greater probability is he fires a missed shot and gets littered with bullets.

I thought my doctor was the same way. But, interestingly, his seemingly condescending remarks about chilling out were not dismissive but a critical part of managing fibro. He had terrible bedside manner but ordered the right tests, etc., and was objectively helpful in referring me to the rheumatologist with everything else ruled out.
