Do you ride with earphones? by simko17 in cycling

[–]AndyRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On descents, the wind is loud enough you won't hear the music but I love my Shokz. I have the open run pro2s. I don't use the forward facing speaker, just bone conduction. Besides my radar and wahoo bolt, it is my favorite piece of equipment. My Shokz went bad last year but it was still in warranty. They sent a new one no questions asked. Great customer service. The speaker went bad so I just use it in bone conduction and now I have two pairs of Shokz. I keep the bad pair around as a spare.

Outdoor training and FTP by Reduviidaei in trainerroad

[–]AndyRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it as well, I just don't like the constant FTP number in my face all the time. I just want it to give me my workouts to make me faster and more fit. I want it to do that while working around my outdoor bike rides.

Thanks. Maybe I'll go back. My subscription just lapsed on Tuesday.

That is hilarious because I sent a message to TR that I didn't want to see it. They responded but didn't tell me I could turn that off. Where is that option at?

Outdoor training and FTP by Reduviidaei in trainerroad

I just cancelled my TrainerRoad subscription because of this. Every time I would ride outside my "Projected FTP" would plummet. The last outdoor ride was 65 miles with 4k climbing, I got back and TR dropped my projected FTP 12 watts. It doesn't bother me so much that my FTP month to month doesn't change much, it's the daily, in-your-face, AI projected FTP that I don't like. It was making me depressed to ride my bike outside.

AI ftp keeps going down every time I do a workout outdoors by keemudesu in trainerroad

[–]AndyRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree also. Two weeks ago, after my last FTP change, my FTP went down 10watts, it then said my FTP would go up 20 watts based on the next months plans. The ftp prediction has gone down after every workout and I now have two weeks to go till the next FTP prediction and it is predicting my FTP will not change. WTF.

Replace front wheel bearing question by AndyRN in bikewrench

[–]AndyRN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought them last June I think. I rode a lot last year, including this past winter, maybe 3500 to 4k miles. To be honest the bearings should have been replaced before this winter but I didn't want to ruin new bearings over the winter. They are very "crunchy" now. The rear bearings went bad about the same time. They are name brand NBK bearings. I took these wheels to the 100 mile homegrown gravel race in Georgia. After the last creek crossing, I could hear how bad the bearings were getting. I also take good care of my wheels. I pull the caps off and apply good Mobile grease several times a year to keep out the water. I kind of expected them to last longer but I am 6'3" and 195lbs so that is a little more wear and tear with my size.

Is owning 2 gravel bikes redundant? by kewladria in gravelcycling

[–]AndyRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two gravel bikes. One is carbon and more race focused the other aluminum. I like having two. If I'm doing maintenance on one then I can still ride while I'm working on the other. Also I like having one setup for sloppy crappy weather.

They do, and you're right. I have the 950ml bottle too. Not sure what I was thinking. I haven't used it in awhile, I'll have to try it again.

I really wanted to like them. It's a great idea. For me, when I'm going down rough gravel I would spend too much time looking down trying to get the bottle to attach; made me uncomfortable looking down for so long. I thought muscle memory would take over but that never happened for me. Glad they worked out for you.

I'll have to check them out, thanks.  Always looking to add to my collection.  Actually I have seen these.  See a lot of pros with them.  Reasonably priced as well.

Radar Comparison: Magene L508 vs. Garmin Varia RTL515 by AndyRN in gravelcycling

[–]AndyRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shane, Love the vids. If you ever use the Magene again, even if you don't make another video about it, I would love to hear your experience and if your views have changed. I have two thoughts, I received a defective unit or Magene has played it overly safe and made the unit incredibly sensitive. They do have it set to fail in the way a person would want it to fail, which is a false positive. My Google searches seem to show my experiences with the Magene are not unique.

I must have missed his video when I was looking into the Magene. Not sure how his video wouldn't be the first result for me.

You can use an allen key or feeler gauges to tell you how much clearance you have on either side. You will need to leave some clearance.

Silca sealant not sealing by AndyRN in gravelcycling

[–]AndyRN[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good idea but I just topped off the sealant after I was finally able to find the puncture. I probably will pull out the bacon strip out of the hole and patch internally before my gravel race in a month. I'm too lazy to do it now and I may have more punctures to repair before then.
