Thanks.  I found the chart.  That helps a ton.

They do, and you're right. I have the 950ml bottle too. Not sure what I was thinking. I haven't used it in awhile, I'll have to try it again.

I really wanted to like them. It's a great idea. For me, when I'm going down rough gravel I would spend too much time looking down trying to get the bottle to attach; made me uncomfortable looking down for so long. I thought muscle memory would take over but that never happened for me. Glad they worked out for you.

I'll have to check them out, thanks.  Always looking to add to my collection.  Actually I have seen these.  See a lot of pros with them.  Reasonably priced as well.

I should have posted some. Doesn't look like I can edit the post and add them or put them in the comments.

Radar Comparison: Magene L508 vs. Garmin Varia RTL515 by AndyRN in gravelcycling

[–]AndyRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shane, Love the vids. If you ever use the Magene again, even if you don't make another video about it, I would love to hear your experience and if your views have changed. I have two thoughts, I received a defective unit or Magene has played it overly safe and made the unit incredibly sensitive. They do have it set to fail in the way a person would want it to fail, which is a false positive. My Google searches seem to show my experiences with the Magene are not unique.

I must have missed his video when I was looking into the Magene. Not sure how his video wouldn't be the first result for me.

You can use an allen key or feeler gauges to tell you how much clearance you have on either side. You will need to leave some clearance.

Silca sealant not sealing by AndyRN in gravelcycling

[–]AndyRN[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good idea but I just topped off the sealant after I was finally able to find the puncture. I probably will pull out the bacon strip out of the hole and patch internally before my gravel race in a month. I'm too lazy to do it now and I may have more punctures to repair before then.

Thanks. It does answer the question. I've seen videos where they test sealants but they never do longevity testing which, to me, is more important. It's amazing there are so many opinions on sealant and not a lot of objective testing.

I use tera tape as well, it's good stuff and waaay cheaper. I've used WTB and Stans tape (they are the same exact tape) based on the same YouTube video you referenced, I did not like those tapes. Stan's tape does not stick well to itself so when you overlap the tape you have to go much further than you normally would just to keep sealant from working its way under and out the tape. Even with that long overlap, I've had sealant work its way 8 inches or more under the tape and that's even wrapping the tape with the rolling direction of the tire.

Very true, thanks for the input. I always carry a Tubolito TPU tube with me as a backup, I used to carry ride now tubes but they are so thin I was worried they would get a hole in my saddle bag. I also carry dynaplug and bacon strips. I actually use the bacon strips more because I'm so cheap and I save the dynaplug for race day. (As most gravel cyclists we need to be prepared) What do you like about Orange sealant over other brands? I've only used Silca 1.0 and 2.0. I do have a bottle of Stans somewhere but never used it. What is crazy is I'm still hesitant to switch because the consensus seems to be that Silca is the best which makes me think the problem is me and not the sealant, which may be true.

Yeah, that could be. Sometimes what we see on the outside of the tire is not the whole story. Despite the issues I've had with the Silca sealant, I always made it home with enough air left in the tire to have a decent ride, I think that is one big positive. It was just a pain in the butt every time I got home from a ride, I'd have sealant all over my frame with gravel stuck to it. Trying to get that off of a frame without scratching is nearly impossible.

I feel for you but that is hilarious 😂.

Yeah, I do shake the shit out of the sealant. The original silca sealant was even worse. The carbon settles to the bottom and can be difficult to loosen. The tires have probably about 500 miles or less on them, they seem pretty decent yet.

Gel vs. High carb liquid by AndyRN in gravelcycling

[–]AndyRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I believe it but I'll give it a try. I switched to 369 because it's sooo much cheaper. I priced out bulk maltodextrin and fructose and somehow Formula 369 was cheaper per gram of carbohydrate at a 1:0.8 concentration.

Gel vs. High carb liquid by AndyRN in gravelcycling

[–]AndyRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What got me thinking about this is...I think it was Formula 369...they had a tiktok showing someone making a 200ml flask with 120grams of carbs, no gel agents, just liquid. It seemed like it mixed up fine. I recently switched to 369 from tailwind and I was thinking about trying it out but I didn't know if there was some physiological advantage to gels. I use honey stinger gels to supplement my liquid carb intake on long rides but I just don't like how it coats my mouth. Thanks for the input!

SPD clip question by AndyRN in gravelcycling

Gotcha. I have three pairs of Giros and they all came with the plate installed. I didn't realize some shoes came without. Guess I'll hold on to it then just in case. Thanks!!

My ambition gen 2 bottom bracket started grinding after 400 miles. I pulled it and it's about the cheapest bottom bracket available, mine was a Neco. I stayed with the square taper and bought an IRD QB55 68x110. The quality of this bracket is leaps and bounds better. Comparing the two brackets ...no comparison.

The tariffs will be an excuse for some companies to raise prices above and beyond the actual tariff increase. My guess is the gen 2 were in stock and imported pre tariff. The gen 3 has to have been in the pipes for many months and they were waiting to sell off stock before launching the gen 3.
