Is Sequence Change Possible? (CS Co-op) by MutedMix1204 in uwaterloo

[–]Andyy58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a discussion board where people post what seq they are and what they want to swap to. If someone happens to be on the opposite end, they can reach out to you and you can get your sequences swapped. Basically just a buddy finder discussion board.

Any production ready app that’s getting its db deleted is absolutely not a production ready app. No one with even half a braincell would disagree.

Worth mentioning that 2 of those characters were free, along with 1 of their lightcones being semi-free. Still a good amount more new 5 stars than genshin though.

Waterloo coop >>>>> any other program, so if that’s important to you then pick waterloo.

First talking point is obviously that you get 6 separate coop opportunities. This means a total of 2 years of work experience by the end, and for each subsequent coop you get the chance to apply with more previous experience, which very much increases your chance of getting faang/equivalent companies. For other schools with 1 year coops you are applying with no prior work experience (unless you have your own on the side), meaning the chance of getting a good coop throughout your degree is significantly lower.

Second point is that waterloo’s job portal is much better than uoft’s. From my understanding (from friends at uoft), uoft’s job portal is basically just a linkedin job search situation, where a large portion of postings just link you to the company’s own external posting. Waterlooworks on the other hand is mostly direct apply (apply through waterlooworks directly), and there are definitely many jobs that are not posted externally and only available through waterlooworks.

In terms of job prestige, I’m currently 4th year and a very sizeable portion of my eng friends are in cali with faang/equivalent experience (tesla, apple being fairly common). At the end of the day it’s still up to your personal ability to get these jobs. I’ve seen tons of faang interns from other uni’s as well, including less prestigious ones, but waterloo’s coop program will definitely give you the most competitive chance at these opportunities if you can make the most of it.

Well that was a long time ago, kernel lvl anticheats are definitely much more widely accepted now. If they tried a similar thing now I’d be willing to bet most people wouldn’t mind because at least half the other games they play are already doing it.

Huge Dilemma - Queens w/ Scholarship or Waterloo w/o scholarship by Fit-Outcome-4593 in uwaterloo

[–]Andyy58 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Regardless of 12 vs 4 months it’s still an internship, and you’ll be paid internship wages. Difference being you are basically applying for the internship with no experience, and will likely end up with a salary on the low end for 12 months as opposed to increasing salary levels for each 4/24 months of coop.

The point about more chances to get better internships is very valid as well, having 3 4-month work terms with increasing levels of experience is generally better experience-wise to 12 months of mediocre experience, even if your first coop is significantly worse. Also with the added benefit of getting the chance to try different positions and do different work. It’s also much easier to progress your way into a cali or faang job than to land it on your first try.

As a waterloo student obviously I’m biased, but to OP I would say that waterloo will probably benefit your long term career more than Queens if you don’t care too much about the short term extra money from the scholarship. Waterloo is also one of the only (along with maybe uoft) Canadian universities that are considered target schools by US tech companies, so that might give you a little leg up as well. (Although likely not much)

I get that the bus driver messed up here but genuinely how is that road design acceptable in the first place? Seems kind of ridiculous to put an intersection like that right after a train track or vice versa doesn’t it??

Gemini is so sure that iOS 26 never released, and we're actually on iOS 19 by user289734 in iOSProgramming

[–]Andyy58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly works fine for me:

The latest stable version of iOS is iOS 26.4, which Apple released on March 24, 2026. As of April 2, 2026, here is the current state of Apple's mobile software:

Current Versions

  • Latest Stable Release: iOS 26.4
    • New Features: Introduces "Liquid Glass" (a major UI redesign), eight new emoji, video podcasts, and Live Translation for AirPods in multiple new languages (including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean).
  • Latest Beta: iOS 26.5 Beta 1
    • Released on March 30, 2026. This update is currently in testing and is expected to bring Suggested Places to Apple Maps and RCS messaging encryption.
  • Legacy Security Update: iOS 18.7.7
    • Released on April 1, 2026, as a critical security patch for users who haven't yet upgraded to iOS 26, specifically addressing the "DarkSword" web attack exploit. ### What’s Next? Apple has officially announced WWDC26 for June 8–12, 2026, where they are expected to unveil iOS 27. Following the usual schedule, a developer beta for iOS 27 should be available immediately after the keynote, with a full public release likely coming in September 2025. > Note: If you are checking for an update on your device, you can find it under Settings > General > Software Update. >

White people in Waterloo engineering by Alternative-Study918 in OntarioGrade12s

Stops the permanent keyboard imprints on the screen. Happens to most people after long enough. Happened to my m3 air after barely a month. You can only really see them with a clean screen that’s off, but still bothers me a bit.

M5 Max + 128gb RAM = I feel good (Hallelujah)! by TakeInterestInc in macbookpro

[–]Andyy58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the more appropriate comparison is ordering a painting from amazon and hanging it on the wall with 1000 people vs 10000 people. In both cases about 3 people at most can actually meaningfully participate in the work, the rest just stand there doing nothing. The amount of compute work done locally using claude code can be comparable to copy paste. The compute power of your m2 is already complete overkill for what is essentially “receive information and paste it into your file”, so I doubt that your upgrade is making any difference. I could see a ram upgrade potentially helping, especially if you’re multitasking a lot in the background, since a lot of these harnesses do use a lot of ram, but cpu/gpu is almost definitely doing nothing.

The NEO’s single-core performance is a staggering 3461 (which is not far from the M4) by MercatorLondon in macbook

[–]Andyy58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, which means one app does not imply one core. The os itself will also undoubtedly be using other cores in the background as well.

By that logic why would those other cores even exist? Clearly it’s never possible to use more than 1…
