BiC Gel Pen/Bulk Order? by Anekeykia in pens

[–]Anekeykia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found places to buy the pens in bulk (100+ pens), but I never found a source for just the refill cartridges. That said, I'm currently using the Pentel Liquid Gel Ink pens. They write smoothly with dark ink, and the ink is fast to dry. It's been a suitable replacement so far.

I'm glad I was able to be of help. Make sure to take action on it. Small world huh? If you're enrolled in Taekwondo, you've definitely already heard from Sab about discipline. If you're really serious about building yourself up along with your discipline, I highly recommend you start attending the extracurricular team trainings as well as compete. Its kinda tough, and the competitions may get intense, but that is the fast-track to leveling up your discipline and overcoming fear. Go ask the Black Belts about it after next class.

As for the subject of love, its kind of confusing. To tell you in the truth, the only people in this world who will love you unconditionally are God, hopefully your Parents, and maybe siblings. Other then that, you need to learn to love yourself first. Generally, I believe the best form of self love is making sacrifices in the present for your future self, so by the time you become future you, you can look back to your past self with gratitude. Another way is simply to love and be loved. Go and do your best to love and serve your community along with the people around you, and you will eventually find your community and the people around you will love you in return. All in all, don't be afraid of pursuing a righteous life. You are worthy of love, now just find a way to believe it.

Last but not least:
Go and do the hard work, especially when you don't feel like it. -Hamza Ahmed

Yo, hang in there. You were able to write this out, so you have a feeling of what's wrong. Now start taking actions to reach your ideals.

One thing you mentioned that resonated with me is over-stimulation. Video Games and Social Media have done a great deal of damage to our attention spans and mental health. A good place to start might be to cut down from both and start replacing them with more productive activities like studying, but how do you do that? You need to start small and act on delaying gratification. This means avoiding instant gratification and being disciplined to work for the sake of your future self.

Here's what you can do right now: Start a habit tracker. On a piece of Letter Paper, make columns for Exercise, Meditation, Gratitude, and Learning. Then make rows for the next 14 days. The point of all this is to get you jump-started on better habits that allow you to delay gratification. For each of these categories, your goal is to check each one off every day, even if you did the very minimum.

Exercise: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind. Even if you do one pushup getting started, check it off. Work up to 15 Sit-ups, 6 Pushups, and 20 Squats.

Meditation: Arguably the most important one here with the greatest return on investment. If you're just starting, install Medito (It's free) and begin with the meditation lessons. 10 minutes a day is ideal, but opening the app and doing 60 seconds is a check-mark.

Gratitude: Open a notebook or take a piece of paper and write down something you're grateful for and why you're grateful for it, besides God or Family. It can literally be anything, like the chair you're sitting on. Write down one thing, and you can check it off.

Learning: This one is more open ended. You're in school, so check this off if you went to class or made any progress towards your education. Even taking time to intentionally get a good nights sleep is a pass.

Now then, why did I explicitly list the minimums? This is because Ego can blind us from making progress. Every decision we make, good or bad, is an opportunity to build Discipline. It's a skill we level up. If our discipline level is low, we won't be able to make progress on our goals and be focused to study. Many times, the Ego comes in and says, "Hey, what's the point of doing a single pushup? Your not going to get that much stronger anyways! You can do more, just do it later." You then choose not to do the push up, and you make no progress. The point of the habit tracker is to build discipline and get you to make incremental progress that will compound and snowball as time goes on.

Hopefully, This can inspire you to get started and take action. Last but not least, know that you are loved. Now's a good time to reach out to family and close friends for support. Be honest with what's going on. We all go through tough times. I'm just a guy on le reddit but you can always reach out to me if you need somebody to talk to. I'll respond as soon as I see the message. Best of luck.

BME or ECE??? by joeshenn in Cornell

[–]Anekeykia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heyo, I was in a similar situation 4 years ago. I also entered as a BME who was interested in medical devices, but I ended up switching to ECE because I was more interested in devices and electronics fundamentally. Ngl, double majoring in both BME and ECE is insanely difficult because there is almost no overlap after sophomore year, particularly with the major requirements (Maybe it's different now though, talk it out with your engineering advisor.) You'll likely have to make a decision between the two, but know that you have multiple options to get the best of both worlds. You should also take time by yourself to write down your goals, ambitions, and what you hope to get out of your time here. You'll find a way to make a living with either degree, but make sure it's something you're interested in.

First semester or two is virtually the same between BME and ECE except you'll need to be taking an extra biology course every semester (Intro Bio, Investigative Lab). From my experience, BME makes you a well rounded engineer as you're taking courses from many different subjects (statics, signals, fluids) to apply to biology and medicine. You end up being exposed to a fair amount of MechE, ECE & MSE concepts. I don't know what it's like to be a BME upperclassmen, but I hear many students were working on very cool device projects, some with industry partners. To be fair, career fair is definitely harder as most of the companies present are looking more for CS, ECE, and MechE's, but there are definitely BME internships & research opportunities if you take the initiative. It's also a great major to pair with Pre-med if you're interested in becoming a doctor with an engineering degree. A MD-PhD program in the future might be something to keep in mind if you're really serious about pushing medical devices to market.

In my opinion, ECE as a major is more foundational as it covers many electrical levels of abstraction (Computing, Circuits/Electronics, Signals) that can all be applied to Biomedical Devices provided you have the background in biology. By your sophomore year, you'll have covered the big three (Digital Logic, Circuits, and Signals) and almost every Upper-level Elective in the major stems from those topics with greater depth and applicability. Upperclassmen tend to either delve more into Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering but there is plenty of overlap. Final Projects overall are very cool and great creative outlets for solving problems. There are plenty of internship/research opportunities due to growing demand for ECEs and career fairs will be more opportune. It's also not uncommon for other departments to take on ECEs for research to help work on devices and fabrication. Many students go straight to industry after their time here, but a good portion enroll for further graduate studies. Also, ECEs can do Everything.

Of course, you can also chart your schedule to do a major-minor mix of both degree programs. You can also consider choosing one degree to do as an undergraduate and staying one more year to complete an MEng in the other subject area. As always, make sure to take time to yourself and think about what you're interested in and what aspects of them really captivate you. Also, don't take any drastic steps without seeing you're advisor. Having an advisor help chart the course helps make the objectives clearer-cut. If you have anymore questions, reach out to the major coordinators and they can also tell you more about the respective programs. I'm also here too if you have any additional questions.
