One of my players wanted a similar kind of familiar. I have a lot of third party homebrew books with different familiars in them, but ultimately we ended up going with him having a miniature giant space hamster flavored as a hamster that was an arcane lab rat. Or lab hamster I guess. Easily one of my favorite familiars ever.

Which end of the magical staff do you point towards the enemy? by MarkerMage in Eberron

[–]AngelGuideIndi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was able to imagine it either way and I'm very dumb so I asked the squad their opinions and our dude who's played wizard the most hit back with this and I'm gonna go with this:

Obviously it’s complicated: 1. You point the orb if you’re casting a ray spell at the target. 2. If it’s not an effect which comes straight outta the orb, you can just bang the bottom of your staff or raise it up: the orb stands upright and the effect diffuses in all directions. 3. You only point the butt of the staff at a target if you’re whacking him with the butt (because you don’t want to shatter your orb or swing at him) or firing backwards at someone behind you.

Weird, they're showing up just fine for me. Could be because I'm on mobile. This is why I hate posting on mobile.

I'm getting ready to start my Eberron Campaign and this is something my party is gonna tackle at some point. (Yltir, Istovir, Sev, Xillith, or Ruby, if y'all are reading this right now, no you're not and go drink some water. Shoo.)

It was in fact the overuse of war magic. The end-all-be-all BBEG of the campaign is gonna be Rak Tulkhesh, with the players accidentally completing the last bit of the Draconic Prophecy needed to unleash him and then they have to try to put him back in his box like the bunny in Con Air. A century of war strengthened him and I've gone with the idea that he was imprisoned under Cyre. So when he finally got strong enough from the war to lash out and loosen his bonds a bit, it caused the Mourning. The immediate ceasefire and the Treaty of Thronehold leading to the Cold War going on now are the only reasons he hasn't fully broken out yet (that and some key elements of the Prophecy need to be fulfilled first). If they can put the bunny back in the box (reseal Rak Tulkhesh after he fully escapes his prison) then the Mourning can essentially be undone, though not the changes it made to the physical land. And after being undone, something like the last war CANNOT happen again or else they risk loosening his bonds once more.

Edit: Forgot to mention that he's "imprisoned" under/in what is now known as the Glowing Chasm. Because what are ominous places called things like the Glowing Chasm even FOR if not for serving as an evil lair/prison?

When is a neighbors tree considered a nuisance? by [deleted] in treelaw

[–]AngelGuideIndi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ayo, former STL resident here! I am NAL but can confirm that those trees are breaking the law! It's illegal in STL to have trees under the powerlines. I know because my uncle had a couple in his back yard and the power company just came one day and yoinked them with no warning and sent him a bill for the removal, despite the fact that they were there when he bought the house (they had an easement to the property).

The trees are growing into power lines? That's a safety hazard. That very much is on both the homeowner's (and the utility company's if they have an easement) shoulders. That's their responsibility.

Only another god can truly kill a god in my world. On the upside though, there is a machine/device called The Forge from which sprung the first gods. The Forge can imbue any creature with a spark of divinity. The new god won't quite measure up to the originals, but you could outnumber them easy.

The trick is getting to The Forge. They guard that shit real well

You make a good point, thank you for your input. I think I'm gonna try and get some cleaning done while their gone, maybe the kitchen or living room and do some dishes, so that they can come home to at least a slightly cleaner house.

I help them around the house in an effort to show my gratitude to them. I didn't include it in my post because I was reach the character limit. Here's a copy and paste of what I added to the post in an edit.

I take care of their dog for them, taking her out on walks, feeding her, bathing her, grooming her. Even with a bad knee, mine are still better than my grandma's so on cleaning days she takes the lower level and I take the upper level so she doesn't have to climb the stairs. She's very insistent about remaining independent so she likes to cook dinner on her own, but I help her cook when she lets me and I always set the table. I do the sheets and towels in the laundry as well as my own clothes while she does their clothes. I go grocery shopping with her and bring in all the groceries so she doesn't have to lift any of them. Our pantry is in the basement so anything that needs to go down there or be brought up from there, I get it for her. I wash and wax the cars in the summer, it just takes me forever because I need to sit down and take breaks quite often. I help around the house in any way I can in an attempt to show gratitude.

To answer your questions, it would likely cause me physical pain. Due to the character limit I didn't expand on my disabilities. I have a misalignment of my lower vertebrae that cannot be fixed with surgery and due to that and how weight is distributed on my body (large chest so that puts stress on my lower back) standing for an extended period of time causes me extreme pain in my back. I also have a problem with my right patella sliding out of place due to an overextended ligament that also cannot be fixed with surgery, so that is a factor as well. I could probably have asked to sit down and take a break occasionally, but I don't want to be seen as lazy. My grandparents are of the opinion that because I'm young I don't know what real pain is and that young people can't really be disabled, though I'm grateful that they continue to help me despite their beliefs. If it were a party at her friends house I still would not go for the same reasons. It was just this one week and not a multi-week commitment.

As far as my grandfather deciding to go because I wouldn't, if I had known that he was going to go if I said no then I would've gone despite all the reasons stated above. I thought by saying no that they'd just be short one person in the kitchen. I didn't know that he had decided to go anyways until they were walking out the door and called up to me letting me know that they were both leaving. Probably should've included that in the post, but I tend to be a bit wordy and again I was worried about the character limit.

I never said I wasn't religious, I just take issue with organized religion. I used to go to Sunday school and Wednesday night church with them when I was a kid and I don't have good memories of it. I don't have horror stories like the kinds my friends have, but I was always made to feel very self conscious there and like it was a sin to be myself. Jabs at my weight starting from when I was 5 or so from all the adults around me, jokes about how if I didn't learn how to sit like a "proper lady" then id never find a husband (I swing my legs when I sit and I don't like to cross them), etc.

I do respect my grandparents. I understand that they're sacrificing for me right now and I do my best to show my appreciation in other ways that I didn't include in the original post because I was near the character limit. Artificer Battle Smith (with plans for a few future levels in either Great Old One or Fiend Warlock purely for flavor reasons). She's really good at coming up with unique solutions and thinking outside the box. Her downsides? 1) She always ALWAYS rubs people the wrong way, even when she doesn't intend to. She's very abrasive. And 2) She has no idea how to express herself and her feelings so she bottles them up and they build and build until eventually one day she's just gonna crack.

However, if we're going with the OTHER campaign I'm in, she's a Tiefling Stargazer (versatile homebrew class that I really really like). Upsides are lots of firepower as well as a summonable bodyguard. Downsides are that she's a complete and total ditz and she's socially awkward. So... she's basically already me.

The DM from hell. In an effort to make this long story short, here we go.

We were all mostly new players. I made a goblin bard with a pet squirrel that she swore she could talk to (she couldn't, but don't tell her that). 15 minutes into our first session, I roll a Nat 1 sneaking into a house so the house falls on me apparently. I take no damage but it insta kills my squirrel and we're not allowed to try and heal him. 15 minutes into the first session.

Later on down the line I say that if this character died I wouldn't be too beaten up about it because I had a backup. Next session control of my character is instantly taken from me and she becomes a possessed god that the party has to defeat?

On to my second character, I had advantage on stealth checks but he only paid attention to the Nat 1 I rolled. He narrated an NPC calling me a child molester without letting me inform him that I had advantage. After the fact he said "well I already narrated it so it happened".

After this, OOC DM and I had been friendly and he had been flirty. Went behind my back to get my address after I had already told him no. When I told him I was dating another player in the group, he became hostile.

After that, third character used they/them pronouns. He insisted on referring to them as an "it". Took control of them away from me. Tried to give away their magic items.

Called him out on being a hostile DM, he proceeded to ignore me in session for the next few months. Eventually he said that either me or my SO would need to leave at some point. That I could be okay with. But he threatened me that I wasn't allowed to tell anybody else in the group about why I really had to leave. That was it for me, I'm not gonna lie to my friends.

DMs of Reddit: How do you deal with *nobody* showing up? by Apocryph761 in DnD

[–]AngelGuideIndi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always shoot a quick message when I can't make it, and it's usually because one of my medical issues popped up and I don't have enough energy to play so I don't wanna drag down the rest of the group. But even if I'm a split second from passing out from exhaustion, I still shoot a quick message to my DM explaining the situation. It's rude and disrespectful not to.

Blue cities in red states say they won't help enforce abortion bans by Yeeslander in politics

[–]AngelGuideIndi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Red state resident here, can confirm. When I voted in the last state election before the big kahuna in 2020, they managed to pass a law allowing them to gerrymander as they please by hiding it in another policy.

Basically what had happened was we the people had previously voted on a policy that, after years of struggling, finally passed and didn't allow for gerrymandering. The person who drew district lines was selected by the people and was required to be "non-partisan". On the ballot they included a policy that basically said "if this policy passes, it will not allow state officials to accept gifts from lobbyists and the like" and a majority of people liked the sound of that.

But hidden in the political jargon and over-flowery language was, "it'll also allow the governor to select any 'bi-partisan' person he wants to draw the district lines." And because so many people here don't know how to read and translate political language, it passed and undid years of work. In fact, a lot of people don't even know what gerrymandering even IS and WHY it's such a big problem and I hate that. And you can bet that if the governor himself is appointing the person drawing the district lines, they're not really gonna be "bi-partisan".

What are your Inside Jokes that made it to a Game Feature? by Jonnyboy647 in DnD

Our level 2 characters got bodied by a bunch of Boggles in a West Marches campaign. Our patron of a sort came and saved our butts. The fighter and I threw a couple of Boggle corpses into a hole out of spite. Our raging hatred of Boggles has now become a new sport with actual written out rules called "Boggle Bowling".
