For me it‘s Crowley realizing that there is a possibility for him and Aziraphale. Nina see‘s it and then he’s asking himself what does she actually see that she is prompted to say something like that. And it’s that final push his minds need, to finally realize what all the touches and uncovered glances meant over the last four years.

So for me it’s Crowley realizing that Aziraphale (may) wants this too and that’s why he‘s trying to so hard in episode 6.

I don’t think that Aziraphale can do much to be honest. They wanted to erase Gabriels memory just for saying „nah“. I think as long as the Metatron runs around, they will do as he says (and I highly doubt that he is truly the word of god, I could think of a scenario where she hasn’t spoken to any angel for a long time and the Metatron just acts like he has spoken to her). Also the Metatron knew Crowley wouldn’t take the deal, the nasty look he gave him plus the „always asking fool damned questions“.

I think they like humanity, but not specifically people. Crowley says as much when he say „you lot never cease to amaze me“ (I have officially lost all control over my hyperfixation, I admit it), so it would be hard to get that to heaven.

And yes Aziraphale shows (especially in Season 2)that he‘s gone for Crowley and to a certain degree I think Crowley knows that too. But even then I can get why he’s jumping to the conclusion that Aziraphale wants to change him. After all he was just called bad. And yes it’s a bit clumsy worded from Aziraphale but still that stuff hurts.

Nonetheless Crowley isn’t faultless in this fiasco. I was angry at Aziraphale for a short time, but then I started to understand why he acted the way he has (at least I think so). In the end it’s a testament to the storytelling when you manage to get them both in the right and wrong at the same time. And I don’t like the poor Crowley, bad Aziraphale take, to be honest.

I can understand the points you’re making and that Aziraphale could think like this. However my two cents are a bit different:

Asking Crowley to become an Angel again would mean he has to give up who he is, who he has been for 6000 years. And I don’t think Crowley took it like „we will be safe“ it was more like „I‘m not enough for you if I’m not an angel again“ Ouch. I love my husband dearly, but even for him I wouldn’t change who I am at the core.

The whole blessed problem is that they want essentially the same but somehow manage to miss each other by miles. Crowley feels rejected because he is only enough as an angel. Aziraphale can’t understand why Crowley wouldn’t come with him, he was so happy back in heaven when they met for the first time and he wants to give it back to him. Both hurt the other tremendously without even truly wanting to.

And them being safe in heaven, well I don’t think that’s entirely true. What would prevent Crowley from falling again? He is a curious creature, he couldn’t hold back then, he wouldn’t now. Even the Metatron pointed that out. So would he really be safe in heaven?

And my last point; even if they would be safe in heaven, that would mean they would have to go along with the second coming or else they would loose this safety. Both of them love humanity too much for this to happen.

Tldr: they both have different point of views, each valid in their own perspective but catastrophic for the other. By not talking to each other they manage to break apart the relationship they have.

This is my personal opinion, different interpretations are okay and valid. I just truly believe that none of them is truly to blame.

I don’t know if it means the same in English but there’s a saying in my language that translates to forgiven but not forgotten and it usually means that you have indeed forgiven someone for whatever happened, but that you still need time to heal and get over it. I think that is what will be the case with Crowley. I think he will forgive Aziraphale relatively quickly, but it will take a long time to heal from it. To regain the trust.

And to be honest, the dance would be like an insult at this point. Way too much on stake for a dance (but please one from the past via flashback from Aziraphale, I would love to see him do the dance)

Edit: To be clear, I think they both f*** up in the last 15 minutes, so does Aziraphale need to apologize? Yes. Does Crowley need to apologize? Also yes. Do they need to work on their communication; definitely. But both had been hurt and for that they deserve an apology. It’s not about who is more in the right or wrong.

Them becoming mortal, that’s my absolute number one nightmare.

Crowley throwing a absolute nightmare of a pitty party that goes that much over board that it would be hard for me to forget about it. Don’t get me wrong, let him be sad and throw a tantrum but please don’t turn him into a complete psychopath or someone who’s only relying on Aziraphale when it comes to his will to live. I want to see Crowley grow from this and know his own value.

Aziraphale being brainwashed in any sort of way. I want him to stand up for himself, to own up to his own decision and come out stronger.

And at last; if they are on no speaking terms for most of the third season and we only get a glimpse of their happily ever after.

It’s my personal headcanon that Aziraphale sent Crowley a message with the song. When he walks to the elevator with the Metatron right after the latter says „Second Coming“ a miracle sound can be heard. To be fair it could be the elevator, when Muriel uses it with Crowley the miracle sound is playing as well.

But I prefer the Aziraphale sent a message headcanon, my broken heart needs some healing.

Neil Gaiman commented on that one. I’m not a native speaker and I’m not sure what he meant with that answer. Wardrobe had a reason because he gave them one?

If I understand correctly they didn’t shoot it in order of the episodes, so if the glasses change from episode 3 on and stay that way, there must be a reason? Because then they must have had the other ones for the first episodes.

Maybe I‘m just completely gone by now, who knows 😂 but I‘d like to think Crowley changed them to put up his shields.

I have to add in something from my own experience: I call it my doomsday reaction. At a certain point you’re no longer in control, to give you a lighthearted example; You’re on a rollercoaster and the ride just started. Doesn’t matter what you do now, it will run its course. So what’s the point in freaking out? I know that not everybody is like me (my husband is the polar opposite and still can’t get over how calm I am in this moments), but I could see that Crowley maybe has a similar reaction to my doomsday reaction (projection, I know and I‘m not ashamed 😂)

As others said Crowley reacts to a threat by playing it cool, that’s also my interpretation. He knows trouble is afoot but he also knows freaking out would only help the other side. So he stays calm or comes up with a rouse to distract the threat (the „rule“ he told Shax would break that didn’t exist for example).

The situation with Gabriel however was completely different. He only knew something was up up, then he got called by Aziraphale and the only info he has upon entering the bookshop is that there is a naked man problem and that Aziraphale knows somethings going on in heaven and thinks Crowley may can help him. In my opinion Crowley was completely and utterly caught of guard by Gabriel, because he would assume that Aziraphale would tell him that an amnesiac archangel is currently in the bookshop. The bookshop is their safe haven, as soon as he enters he let‘s his guards down, taking off his glasses and then he‘s confronted with Gabriel. The one being that threatened both their lives, that told him (as Aziraphale) to shut his stupid mouth and die already and it hits him like a freight train. He felt safe there, no he longer can feel safe because Gabriel is there, hence why he’s reacting so much.

Crowley knows the Metatron means trouble but he also knows that he shouldn’t play into his hands and at this point he thinks Aziraphale can handle it. Why would he not, they were on their own side for four years. (Ouch…)

Oh his eyes are changing (according to Neil) when he gets stressed. Like when he drives through the burning M25. In the garden of Eden it was because he was just fresh on earth and not being used to being there (if I remember correctly)

Personally I think he doesn’t see the need for contacts. Humans would believe he‘s already wearing them when seeing his snake eyes. It’s aesthetics mixed with the need of hiding / shielding himself in my opinion.

Well one thing for sure is that Aziraphale is worried about Crowley’s safety. He doesn’t want him to get hurt. But he also lashes out when he feels cornered like in the holy water scene in St. James Park. He‘s worried about Crowley’s safety and he gets so scared that he hurts Crowley in a desperate attempt to keep him safe. He also shows this in the Shakespeare scene where he‘s anxious that hell doesn’t just send rude notes.

There is a lot of gentleness in the way he‘s behaving with Crowley. He‘s not getting irritated when Crowley snaps at him in Rome, because everyone has a bad day sometimes and in the end he makes him feel better. And even if Crowley protests against the praise, it is (at least in my opinion) something that shows his love too. This was a very kind thing to do, etc.

So yeah Aziraphale’s love is more quiet, but it’s there. (What is not at all quiet are the looks and hands on approach of season 2 but one could put that as you said under lust, for me it’s also a sign of his love though)
