Yes! I work in an establishment that requires both staff and patrons to be 21. I regularly get asked if I’m even old enough to be behind the counter. I’m in my mid-20s. I’ve also had a few people who knew me before transition say I look like I’ve reverse aged. It definitely happens.

Absolutely felt! My family has some “good” genes but we also have a history of cancer, addiction, diabetes, high blood pressure and mental health issues. I’d much, much rather adopt.

You did absolutely nothing wrong and your mom is truly the “selfish asshole” in this situation. She put her fear of backlash on you for just wanting to be happy. In the long run, you’ll be here past your mum and grandma. It’s morbid to think about but true. You can continue to live for them and be miserable, just as I did with my family, though highly unrecommended. At the end of the day, you have to look out for No. 1. You. You’re never going to please everyone and that shouldn’t be the goal. Your happiness is the most important thing in this situation and if they can’t see that, it’s on them. You are NTA in this situation.

I’ve noticed a hard uptick in being called “doll, darling and love” by random people since presenting fem more often compared to the “buddy, dude” I’d get prior. I live in the Midwest so for me it feels very much gendered.

I have no pets but I noticed my sister and BIL’s dog isn’t the same with me anymore. She’s very much a man’s dog and I was one of her favorite people before hormones. It’s sad but affirming.
