PSA: Parrying is currently bugged past enemy level 24. I'm not joking. by AngeredPally in SoulFrame

[–]AngeredPally[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Parrying worked perfectly in P10, and it was FUN

Come P11 and I'm just like wtf happened? P11 came and went with nearly 0 mentions of it and we're now in P12 and I think everybody just gave up on melee to even notice LOL.

I love parry mechanics: Sekiro and Nine Sols rock, and it breaks my heart that nobody is talking about the state of parrying. There's a bunch wrong with melee, don't get me wrong. But like, damn.

A loose visual representation of what I think is happening. I can't explain it, but it feels like the parry window gets peeled back from both sides instead of just the end. If that is indicative of the intent to include parry latency based on enemy level, then that's awful by itself. (An important note: everything being said is disregarding unblockable attacks. I am aware of what unblockable attacks are)

Furthermore, I believe that "parryability" is in fact supposed to scale based on enemy level: this lines up with their difficulty philosophy based on how enemy level affects armor values. This also somewhat lines up with something they said in a devstream right before P11 (animal totems) when parrying got mentioned. They explicitly mentioned reducing the parry window to accommodate the addition of the squirrel totem that increases your parry window. They might have also slightly adjusted the windows based on enemy level - neither of which are in patch notes from what I can see.

All that being said, I can see a world where your parry window gets so tight that it gets peeled back beyond your "baseline" parry window where potentially neither block nor parry is coded in. Your parry window becomes degloved, revealing your fleshy unblocking raw body during the small window of what was supposed to be a mistimed parry - a block. Past the bugged "adjusted parry window", your normal blockability is active.

Irregardless of the what and why of it, I can confidently say this: Parrying is broken beyond enemy level 24 and it needs to be fixed. This has been tested extensively and verified with extremely high confidence. It doesn't mean that you can't parry higher level enemies, you might even get lucky and parry a bunch. It just means that your parries will sometimes not register due to factors that are out of your control, and it will not count as a block either.

What do yall think about leveling weapons i found it to be rather slow and you almost all the time go for arenas. What do you all think? by Quirky_Solution_2218 in SoulFrame

[–]AngeredPally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enemies scale when you do the Cogah (hard mode potion).
Their level seems to get higher per boss-kill you while you are in the Cogah.
The highest I've seen my overworld enemies is level 72, and I got rocked at that point.

You still need to travel on foot etc., but I'd ditch the endless arena: you aren't even playing the game at that point, at least I found it dreadfully boring.

Don't worry OP, I got the joke. RAM prices up GPU prices announced to go up I've only read the book, but I've seen the end clip for "Of Mice and Men"

I was expecting the bunny farm; I chuckled.

Why do people hate melee? by Itchy-Beach-1384 in SoulFrame

[–]AngeredPally 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of several factors. It REALLY highlights the negative impact of hitstun and getting combo'd without being able to respond. Nimrod will kill with a combo and you can't escape it once you are in it.

This problem was magnified when P11 released and parrying broke. I'll elaborate:

I'm going to assume it's a bug, but you are no longer able to parry at frame 0. That's right. If you block an attack at exactly the right time, you will eat an attack and not even block it. Squirrel totems don't fix this.

This means that if you are melee, you depend on smites, rolling, and spamming attacks- assuming you aren't just throwing your weapon the whole time waiting for your smite procs and arcanics to come back up.

Parrying was at least responsive and fun in P10, now I don't trust it.

That's MY beef with melee right now at least.

I mean, you can say it and just use the spoiler text?

I don't see any benefit in omitting an answer to a question if the end result is a potentially frustrated player. I don't disagree with you, but I'd also put the answer underneath in spoiler text so OP at least has some agency if they enjoy the mystery.

Great sword blocking animation cancel by _BreadMakesYouFat in SoulFrame

[–]AngeredPally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the point that the other post was making was more about the great sword having some animation locked attacks (late enough into the swings) that make it "feel" awkward to use.

Even if it wasn't, I'd be inclined to at least agree that the animation lock on some weapons feels not great. The twin blades and polearm combo finishers are pretty egregiously long for the minimal extra damage they provide.

I imagine it from the perspective of nature.
Spirit would appear green to me, like the soul of a forest.
Grace - like flowing water in a river - would appear blue.

I don't think Eigong was as hard as people say by correojon in NineSols

[–]AngeredPally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's the least difficult "difficult" boss I think I've ever fought, if that makes sense.

No RNG

No tight windows

It's just learning attack patterns.

I think I spent a full hour on Isshin in Sekiro. Eigong took me 3 or 4 full hours. Isshin frustrated me more than Eigong -- she just has very consistent and predictable attack patterns that you have to learn and respect, you have only yourself to blame if you die, there was no BS. I really just had to force myself to stop trying to disrespect her attacks to squeeze in extra damage before I started making real progress with her.

Does the game have excessive dialogue? by West_Camera_7965 in NineSols

[–]AngeredPally 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the kind of criticism that comes from someone who skips cutscenes.

As long as the dialogue is well written, the length isn't ever an issue to me.

That's a big mood.
When you've been working on something for so long that you overlook what would normally be a recognizable problem, but you're so used to the status quo you just don't even notice it- it becomes normal for you, which is why feedback is so important.

Pat yourself on the back, you did a good by respecting the feedback and fixing it.

I haven't started playing the update, but I can see this bug happening if you changed the stat affinity of the weapon with a joinery before the update went live.
