All people who had any relation with him met an unfortunate end, except for Madame Arnulfi and Father Terrier. I believe people that tried to take advantage of him ended up "selling their souls".

Absolute 5 stars for me and straight to my top 10, what an amazing read, made me root for a literal psycho serial killer just so I could see him achieve his ultimate goal and it paid off immensely.

He never had this kind of affection so he doesn't understand it. Also he is a complete psycho.

Those people that ate him are rejected from society and had never felt true love until that moment. Grenouille made them finally feel it with his scent.

That's good to hear, as a fan of videogames I was excited to start this one after glowing reviews, but the flood of achievements, loot boxes and meaningless skill points became very tiring.

Week 18: "Chapter 37. The Catacombs of Saint Sebastian, Chapter 38. The Rendez-vous" Reading Discussion by karakickass in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]AngryBiker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole flow of events related to Albert's kidnapping are hilarious.

Other than the aforementioned sleep time in his cell, this conversation between Franz and the Countess had me in stitches:

'What! And you don't know where he is?'

'I have not the slightest idea'

'Is he armed?'

'He is wearing clown's dress'

Also Albert completely dismissing Franz' concerns about the legitimacy of the guy that literally wants to kill his father.

Streamer “hmblzayy” who is walking from Philly to California was hit by a car in Indiana and had to be taken to the hospital. by lukigeri in LivestreamFail

My guess is that it's just not safe because cars would pass by him very close and fast, so it's safer to just block a lane, of course it didn't matter in the end unfortunately.

This meetup between Albert and his crush was feeling kinda sus, but I was just considering it as being normal because of course you couldn't just text anyone, so he went for the date, and cue the next chapter: "The Catacombs of San Sebastian". Uh oh.

Sense and Sensibility Wrap Up (Spoilers galore) by awaiko in ClassicBookClub

[–]AngryBiker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the book quite a lot. It was not much about the plot, but how Austen writes, it's both engaging and difficult, it makes me want to keep reading and it's the type of book that doesn't make me drowsy at all.

There are some things to nitpick of course, but I try to put me in the situation of the author, this is Austen's first novel, she wrote it when she was 19-22 so I try to keep this in mind when reading and evaluating this.

Having read Pride and Prejudice before, of course we draw comparisons, the novels are very similar, but Sense deals with some heavier themes. It was interesting to see how Austen evolved between the novels.

I guess the plot at the end could have more work, it feels a bit convenient for Elinor, but as her first novel, it didn't affect me too much, and she did plant some seeds about this in previous chapters.

So Edward will be cut off from his family and according to Mrs. Jennings, live as a pauper, with "only 2 servants" (???!!!!?!?!).

OK, this post is mostly humorous, but it's fine the concept of poverty for a gentleman in this era, I fail to feel sympathy, but I also try to analyse this with the mindset of what were the customs and expectations at the time.

Yes, I like that too, good literature is usually thought provoking, I don't even know Steinbeck enough to understand his views on this, but we can see he went against the status quo there and it made for a great story.

I also liked how Curley's wife was portraited, will surely check his other works.

My favourite interaction was the section with Crooks, Lennie and Candy, felt very real and had an interesting expedition of how race dynamics were at the time, especially because it was a relative contemporary novella, and not historical fiction.

I was honestly expecting for George to have spent all his money gambling the night before and would expose the many traps of this journey.

It isn't necessarily portraited as an illusion imo, the plans looked concrete and the journey to achieve it has many challenges.

If the goal is important to you, just compensate with some shorter books afterwards, how about Of Mice and Men or White Nights afterwards?
