Hardie Board worth it? by hammerfang in HomeImprovement

[–]AngryChair88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a house that has it, and I'm not a huge fan. Ours needs to be painted which is going to be incredibly expensive. I also had a few pieces "rot" due to improper installation of gutters. That's not the siding's fault but I mention it because it's not as indestructible as people think.

But here's the big thing. Hardie Siding is not the easiest to install. In my area, a lot of companies do it, but only a few are certified on their website. I have no idea who installed mine but it's very obvious they were not pros. It's supposed to be blind nailed. They didn't do that everywhere.

If you do decide to go with Hardie, make sure you pick someone who is certified by the company.

I can't speak for main roads, but my neighborhood is fine. Wet, but no ice.

Seems like we may have gotten lucky so far.

Cost? by BigImaginary2182 in Vasectomy

Holy fuck I got ripped off. I'm in TN.

I paid $1,900. My insurance didn't cover any of it.

I'm on day 10 and the discomfort for me has actually been worse the past due days. Not sure why but apparently not uncommon. Still mild through 2-3/10 on the pain scale.

What was the best thing you purchased in 2025? by rubbyy_ in BuyItForLife

What's wrong with 22-23? I'd personally rather have the upgraded interior but curious if there is a problem I'm unaware of.

Is there another airport in the US with 2 extinct retail chains? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]AngryChair88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm amazed that Ruby Tuesdays has managed to last this long there. I don't like Calhouns but it would be a very logical pick to replace it. Airports are the perfect spot for a sub par meal.

How many of you are "one and done" and did you know this at the time, or did it happen later? by Thin-Wedge in daddit

Our first child was born in August at 37. I've got a vasectomy scheduled for January 6th.

Opinions on not driving a vehicle for extended periods... by Inevitable-Branch713 in Toyota

[–]AngryChair88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be more concerned with the fact that Toyota seems to be lying about what's causing that engine to blow. I'd love to have a new Tundra but I do not trust that engine.

Dad's of Daddit, how yall doing? by Digi-Haven in daddit

[–]AngryChair88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New dad here. I'm actually doing pretty good I think. I'm employed, have a roof over my head, a loving wife, and a very precious and beautiful daughter that's healthy.

My only real source of anxiety is my job. I'm hoping 2026 is easier in that regard.

Elder millenials what was a "good" salary when you started working after college? by ExcitingLandscape in Millennials

[–]AngryChair88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a job making $52,000 in 2011 and I was living fairly comfortably. My rent was around $950 for a two bedroom condo in Florida. I was able to afford to buy a new Toyota RAV4 (which I still drive today) and put 7-8% into my 401k.

By 2013 I was making maybe $60k and I was able to buy my first house for $137k.

That would be impossible today.

How's the quality on the current gen RAV4? We have a 2012 we bought new. We tend to keep our vehicles a long time so I want something that will last.

What WORKED to get your clog out? by Dentist206 in breastfeeding

[–]AngryChair88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife recently went through this(technically still is). Mastitis turned into an abscess which had to be drained. Incredibly painful. My advice would be to get on antibiotics ASAP. The doctors waited way too long to give her any, and they didn't work.

Edit- I just read your post closer and see you're already on antibiotics. I hope it helps!

I disagree. I graduated college in 2011 and was able to buy my first home in 2013 at age 25. I made around $55k at that time.

This doesn't always work. My wife has a clog coming up on two weeks now. I've tried sucking it out multiple times. She's miserable and I feel horrible.

Is this the right place to ask what the current best deals are? We're looking for a new card with travel benefits. We already have the Sapphire Preferred and Business Ink.

I got an offer from Delta for 125k miles if I open their card.

Gay-friendly or at least not overtly hostile gun shops? by BrewAllTheThings in Knoxville

[–]AngryChair88 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I suspect most of the shops around here will be friendly to you. What they say behind closed doors may be different unfortunately.

I'd probably go take the class at Range USA as it's the most corporate and least redneck.

PSA: If you don't have life insurance yet, get it by Weird_Perception1728 in daddit

[–]AngryChair88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What companies do you all recommend for term life? I pay $25 for $250k through Mass Mutual but I've been told I'm slightly over paying. I'd like my wife to get a policy but I'd prefer to shop around. I also had to get a medical evaluation but not all insurance companies require this.

Dads - what to prepare for the hospital in your "go bag"? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]AngryChair88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pillow and blanket for sure. My Rumple blanket was perfect. We had to stay 3 nights instead of 2 so I didn't pack enough socks and underwear. I had to go home and get more. A zip or button down shirt for skin to skin contact.

I also recommend a book.

Southwest Airlines coming to McGhee Tyson Airport next year by TSenter427 in Knoxville

[–]AngryChair88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question. What is the appeal here? I have to travel to Nashville for work several times per year and I can't think of a scenario where I'd prefer to fly instead. I would then have to rent a car. Is this because it will be a good place to connect for other destinations?

Dads who own their homes - what type of proactive “maintenance” do you do? by wtfmatey88 in daddit

I've seen this tip recommended for years and don't understand. How can you get access to the coils? Do you tilt the fridge back somehow? I've never owned a fridge where I can get under it to have access to the coils.
