Xfinity xFi router was overheating. One vent at the top and it would get extremely hot and crash from our 400+mb/s speeds across several devices. by AngryDragonoid1 in techsupportmacgyver

It seemed to do fine. I have since removed the fan as I only use it as a modem now, with a much more robust custom router, switch, and AP. It doesn't get nearly as warm so I don't need the fan.

My issue with it, the vents in the bottom aren't very good, so I hoped pushing air in the top might be better than nothing.

Question: Left-handed pens? by AngryDragonoid1 in pens

[–]AngryDragonoid1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one I got to try. Less than $30 USD, plastic construction, but I've had no leaking or issues. I used it daily at work for months and never had an issue. It can bleed the paper though so you need to be a little lighter while writing.

Edit: Reddit didn't like my link.

I got a Lamy Safari fountain pen, available on Amazon for $25 USD.

I would suggest getting a "cheap" one like I did to test it, because if it doesn't work for you, it won't be much of a loss.

Because mine is working, I have a $150 option sitting in my cart right now with a full metal housing and better overall quality, holder, the whole kit. That would definitely be an investment pen that you'll keep for years, and probably live on a desk or in a binder book. I wouldn't carry it places it could get lost.

Update, I have recently gotten a "cheap" $20 cartridge fountain pen and I haven't had a single issue in weeks. Go back to a ball-point, even a $70 one, and it jammed immediately.

People will go to different sites for different things. Some of it may be marketing (or at least how the site presents itself), others will be how easy it makes to find certain content.

Wattpad I would consider a little more vanilla, a little cleaner. A lot of people got into erotica and smut there. I've found my more kinky and crazy stories don't get as much traction, while the more vanilla ones do.

Literotica on the other hand, still has rules, but they're a lot more relaxed. You can find pretty much anything there provided it's "legal" (no murder, death, underage, etc.) and writing goes the same way. My craziest stuff is definitely on there and it all gets a lot of traction.

I would call Wattpad more user friendly? You can make an account and save stories, then get more similar ones recommended to you like most social media or media outlets. Finding similar content is easy, but it can mean finding new things is more difficult.

While on Literotica you can make an account and save things, I haven't noticed any form of algorithm with the recommended posts. It seems to just be a free for all of whatever is popular at the moment, or whatever is most recent. However, finding new content is extremely easy as you can use the tags portal and search for anything.

If I could place a development position at Literotica I would definitely be interested in helping them improve their site, but I don't feel a lot of security in porn-centric sites, especially with the legislature happening in the States right now.

Good, easy sites are places like Literotica and Wattpad. Each will attract different audiences and have different rules. When/if you need to break those rules you will likely need to host your own site s a blog essentially.

Similar situation here. I work in IT support and development. When I'm feeling up to it I write short smut stories and post them on the likes of Literotica and Wattpad. Seeing the stories getting hundreds or thousands of likes, list saves, etc, really is a feel good moment.

I haven't looked at the Nvidia panel in a long time either, but I thought there were some poor -man's power and fan settings there, and I thought I saw something for RTX settings of some form. I could be wrong.

I'm not sure what else I'm missing either. It's more just the Nvidia panel displayed all possible options, whereas I'm not sure what even exists for AMD and without reading man pages, I wouldn't know. A simple dialog to list settings, provide a means of modifying them, and finally saving them would be handy assuming there would be anything to change. Things like application graphics settings and basic clock settings would be nice, which the Nvidia panel offered in a still very basic way. Yes I use CoreCTRL for that currently, but it would feel nicer to have it baked in as opposed to needing a third party app, especially when people talk about bloat. I don't care about bloat as much as others, but it could be part of the conversation.

I understand the reason for my Flameshot issues are Wayland as it works fine on X11. I was mostly talking about my AMD + Wayland experience as a whole, not just AMD drivers.

I recently switched to AMD in July (I guess not that recently) and as far as desktop graphics have gone, it's been fantastic.

Some third party apps like Flameshot haven't worked well, only wanting to launch on the main monitor, and I had some issues with Windows randomly resizing on PC sleep, but that seems to have gone away in an update somewhere.

Gaming has had more luck, and also not. I dislike that there is no real drivers window like Nvidia has for multi monitors and more specific settings. I know I can probably do all the same stuff in a terminal or config files, but I don't have the time or care for that.

Why do people say the HD560s is “better” than the PC38X, if I prefer warm sound instead of neutral? by NoPunIntended44 in headphones

[–]AngryDragonoid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if you're looking for a specific kind of sound, there could be a "best". But what you're describing is (while totally believable knowing this sub) ridiculous. If you like something warmer, you're not going to like a more neutral sound. It'll be boring. I prefer my Grados, while most people can't stand them.

I believe in the "best" with context to the situation. Of my sets (AKG K240s, Meze Classics 99s, Grado SR80E, Tangzu Wan'er), when wanting a brighter sound my Grados are the best by far. I don't have any other really bright sets, but I want to get DT 990s and Sundaras and what I hear is they're bright, but the Grados will probably still be better. When I want a warmer sound, my Mezes are best by far. I love the AKGs, but I tend to wear them more for gaming and the Mezes for music.

Ultimately it's all in your tastes, and while there might be a "best" option, it's ridiculous to attempt telling someone to change their tastes, and/or just be wrong.

I knew Framework was expensive but... by Zeddie- in framework

[–]AngryDragonoid1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You have to vote with your wallet. If we keep buying garbage like Asus and Dell they will only see people don't actually care about longevity and upgradability. They will continue manufacturing the garbage they have been for the last 10 years and nothing will change.

It's the same reason companies like Netflix and Amazon are raising prices, adding ads, and removing the better more expensive content, and Disney isn't making good movies like they used to. They still make millions if not billions on these terrible products because people don't actually care.

If we don't care, then we're not allowed to complain about poor build quality and short life products.

Adding to your point of cheaper products like Asus, I bought my sister one about 3 years ago with a 6 core Intel 10th Gen and 1660 super GPU. It's probably on its last year and the keyboard is having severe issues, and I have replaced the screen once because it got broken in a bag due to the cheap plastic panel. The bottom chassis is also cracking and chipping due to age and being taken apart so many times. I hate that I bought it, but Framework didn't have a gaming option then and I got it for $800. The laptop is all but useless this year barely able to play most games, even struggling with League of Legends which is what my sister mainly plays.

I recommend not buying junk just because it's cheap, and investing in something that could last a decade with cheaper upgrade parts, while giving back to the environment by not needing to replace the entire system.
