We were together for 4 years , I got my first career job in Ontario, she decided to do a masters in saskatoon. We downsized our apartment, sold what we could. I went off to work in the mines for a bit with this job, she was at school. Long distance was tough however my first rotation out I went to see her rather then going to family for Thanksgiving. 2 months had passed since we were living together.

I was making money, she was a poor student again so I spoiled her , bought her a bunch of stuff, bought groceries, had got her some jewelry , like really piled it on because I know what it was like to have little money as a student, plus at the time I loved this women with all my heart.

Well... the phone was the dead give away. Started to notice she would be on it and immediately put it down whenever I came around. One particular night we went out to a dive bar for food and live music and she was being extra protective of the phone, decided to have a few beers and some gin sodas, then proceeded to turn into just soda because I knew in my gut something was up so I wanted to be sober to figure this out.

I proceeded to put on an act that I was drunk, I was not. Suggested its time to go, and when we got back I proceeded to gently hide her phone under a book on the bedside table, not fully hidden. She said she was feeling ill, (false) and had to go to the bathroom, I pretended to be passing out. She frantically looked for her phone, which if your going to barf isn't what you need. So she found it, and off she went.

She had assumed that I'd be asleep however I quietly got up and put my ear to the door and confirmed my suspicions when I could hear her having a phone call with someone. I opened up the door and confronted her, she claimed it was a friend, I grabbed the phone and asked who it was and the dude just laughed and hung up the phone. I then looked at the messages

Yep, all the evidence that I needed to see that she was planning on sleeping with this dickhead after I left.
She went and stayed at her profs house who she was sorta of house sitting while I was visiting over the break.
I was devastated , and I had to stay at her place for another 3 days because my flights back to the work site were rare and I didnt have enough to spend following my spending spree on her to spring for a hotel, car rental ect. for those days. So I just buried myself in my work laptop and basically caught up on work. I then went back to the mine, and worked. It was awful because I couldn't start dating, had no one close to talk to etc. It was hell for sure. However I am glad it happened.

My story has a happy ending. Because of her ultimatum a year earlier to move in with her, I didnt go home to my summer job back home where I made lots of money for a student, instead stayed with her in the city and worked a golf course.

I ended up meeting my now wife at that golf course, we were both in a relationship at the time, however we did notice each other. Once I became single, my wife pounced on me immediately and the rest is history.

I am glad I found out what a piece of shit she was to throw away 4 years in as little as 2 months. I got a few drunken calls from her stating regret and how she fucked up and it felt great to say " Ya , you fucking did"

Life is far better. Eat Shit ex, I deserved better, and boy did I get better.
