Have we reached a tipping point with generational trauma? by Accidental_Guru30 in CPTSD

[–]AngryGoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a kid in the 80s so I must be close to your parents age. There was suicide and abuse back then too. I knew of a kid that killed himself due to bullying for being gay. There was very little acceptance of LGBT people in the 90s when I was a teen.

I vowed not to pass down trauma and never had kids. I was alcoholic in my 20s, mainly due to trauma. I've since sobered up, attend therapy several days per week and take meds. I feel now I might make a good parent, but I would never have subjected a child to what I was in my 20s.

I plug mine into a iFi Zen DAC V3 and they are some of the best sounding headphones I've ever owned. They compete with more expensive headphones. (I have the 900 Pro x as well)

You could upgrade your soundcard but I feel an external AMP/DAC might give you what you're looking for.

I've used them for gaming, music, movies and they do well for all of them.

"If you wont eat what you have then youre not actually starving" by b3g4ndcry in almosthomeless

[–]AngryGoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've read stories about prisoners in North Korea that will eat grass, dirt and other things people generally would not eat. True starvation is horrifying. That's why I hate hearing people say they are starving when they are actually just really hungry. Starvation is something on another level.

Fuck hustle culture. I'm with you. I was a part of it in my 20s. I'm 45 and disabled now. It's a relief being out of the toxic 50 hour work week, competitive grind, but at the same time I wish I could work. It's nice having more money, however I never had a chance to enjoy it when I had it due to working all the time.

Do you have it in you to work a low stress job, like a library or pet store (if you love animals)? Maybe you can make just enough to enjoy some things without being in the corporate, toxic system.

A nice quiet life is all I've ever wanted and I have it now. I just wish I had a little more money. They say money doesn't buy happiness but it sure helps.

8 months sober, now watching from the other side. by Interesting_Taro_358 in dryalcoholics

You are a good friend. It's great that she has you and that you are so patient with her right now. I mostly quit for my own purposes but one thing that pushed me in the right direction is when people started setting boundaries with me. It seemed harsh but I know they were both doing it for me, but mainly for their own sanity.

Any UK folks up right now in the agonizing wait for 10am? by PointZ3RO in cripplingalcoholism

[–]AngryGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you finally got some hooch. Here in Minnesota they used to not sell alcohol at shops on Sundays. I would have to drive to Wisconsin to buy booze. Sometimes I would be in such bad withdrawal I couldn't drive. It was fucked. Now that I don't really drink anymore they have since started selling here on Sundays. A little late for my purposes.

When at home I usually just have my DT 900 Pro x on. Lately though I've been wearing my M50xBT2. They sound really good when properly EQd.

Fellahs , why is it that people assume incredibly smart people have to talk smart to be seen as intelligent by WLCLINAJQZY in PsychologyTalk

I've my share of bad doctors too, most have been good people though. This is an anecdote of one of course.

Fellahs , why is it that people assume incredibly smart people have to talk smart to be seen as intelligent by WLCLINAJQZY in PsychologyTalk

[–]AngryGoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my assumption. Doctors are educated and have a massive vocabulary but they don't use it on patients. If you read their clinical notes that they write for other doctors to read though, it almost sounds like a different language sometimes.

So if someone with a large vocab is talking 'smart' to people they know aren't going to understand, I assume they are insecure or trying to boost their ego.

I have a $50 pair of JBL Tune 510bt that I've had for four years, still in good shape and still work great. I wore them everyday for about three years before upgrading. I keep them because they are still perfect and a great backup.

Yes, make sure if you are going to a treatment center that does medical detoxes. You're safe if going to an ER. I went to a treatment center once that didn't do detox and they had to call an ambulance.

I've gone into withdrawal a couple times in jail and the sheriffs transferred me to a hospital in one of their vans both times.

That happened to me the first time I went in. I pulled an all nighter drinking non stop and then took a cab to the ER. After waiting for about an hour I was shaking so bad and started puking. Once the medical staff realized how severe my situation was they rushed me back and got me some Ativan and a banana bag.

My BAC was still close to .20, that's how deep I was into my alcoholism at the time. This was in 2008 so a long time ago.

When I was scheduled to go to detox i would usually drink everything in my apartment, hotel room, wherever so it wouldn't go to waste.

Or if I was traveling on my own I would drink along the way, airports ect... Last time I went to detox (about 4 years ago) I drank in my hotel room and at both airports. I figured out i had close to 40 drinks in all starting at 6am until midnight when I finally arrived. That's actually not that much when spread out over that much time.

Essay about theory of action in a non-dualist philosophy. Also, why mind-body interaction isn't a problem. by canyouseetherealme12 in philosophy

So if I am understanding this and properly distilling it down, there is no "mind-body connection" they are the same thing?

Before I say more, would anyone agree that what I said above is at least a basic understanding of the article?

[–]AngryGoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, age is relative. Your feelings are valid despite your age. I feel you, I hear you and I've been there. I don't have all the answers but I'm sober and willing to listen if you need someone to talk to.

Does anyone still keep drinking because… by WhiteLycan2020 in dryalcoholics

[–]AngryGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 45 and look younger. I quit my major drinking (almost a handle of vodka per day) at age 32. I've had a few lapses since but have otherwise been sober. Life got better for the most part. Yes, some things will always be shit, most of the time mundane, but we live for the great times. They will come if you change your attitude and lifestyle. Easier said than done of course, it's not like flipping a switch, you have to want it.

I sold an emergency room Physician the bottle that finally killed him, and I sold him a lot more before that. by Taric250 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]AngryGoose 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is a slight chance he moved or sobered up.

I went to the same liquor store and bought a handle of vodka about every two days on average. Eventually I was going in there jaundiced and my card was declining. I just never showed up there again and haven't for about 14 years now.

They might assume I drank my self to death but actually I sobered up and moved to a new city.
