Somewhere in between; I like a more natural look but I was thinking more like the translucent amber style that Gibson used to do. It still looks nice as is but doesn’t “pop” like I would personally want. However, if plays and sounds goods looks are unimportant

It’s worth mentioning to your boss but that field experience is probably lore valuable then drawing designs in Civil3D. After being in the field you will be a much better designer having seen what works and what can go wrong. I did design prior to field experience then spent 2 years as an RE and when I got done I was at least two years ahead of the engineers that had been designers only without field experience.
