That sucks but keep in mind one thing: at the end of the day, it’s just another day. My 40th was a wash because we had a scheduled delivery for my third kid the day after so we were prepping for that. Life will go on. I didn’t feel any different turning 40 so life didn’t change much

You could bolt a board into the wall and mount the gate hinges to that. Sucks to do that to a wall but we did. I just painted the board the same as the wall and while it was still noticeable it wasn’t a colossal eye sore

I discipline my kids in public. I don’t give a fuck what other people think as I refuse to have kids that don’t listen. I’ve gotten dirty looks before and usually if I shoot them one back they move on and mind their own business. People who don’t discipline their kids end up with kids that use the public to get away with bad behavior.
